A concern before buying

UnojcUnojc Member Posts: 29
I will state up front I have never played GW at all.  My concern is that if I buy this game will it be like GW1 where a few expansions come out before making the game in a way obsoleteish?  I mean, GW2 is different altogether and I'm sure very few play GW1 now days.  Is there a GW3 in the works that will do to this game what is/has happened to GW1?

The game is buy to play so I would put money on the fact that paid xpacs are planned for GW2. Just like they were part of GW1. This with the store will generate the income since there is no sub.

    Current: BDO
Looking forward to: Crowfall & Chronicles of Elyria

There's no GW3 announced at all. I think I remember reading they said they'll just do expansions and no new campaigns like in GW1. Even if there's a GW3 coming out, anyway, GW2 came out 7 years after GW1 came out, so I'd guess it'd be a while before we see something released by Anet that makes GW2 obsolete.. :)

What can men do against such reckless hate?

Yea and the changes were really different, that's why GW2 can't really be a xpac..

I guess that if one day a totally new form of gameplay is invented and is "better" in the eye of arenanet they would make a 3.

    Maybe a virtual world :O

GW1 still has a thriving community which has actually been bolstered by GW2 due to HoM rewards.

It may become a little quieter over the next couple of months, although I expect the resurgence to continue as players new to the franchise start to buy GW1 to unlock those rewards.

I wouldn't be surprised to see ArenaNet offering purchase of GW1 campaigns via the gem store a few months down the road. You can already upgrade to the Digital Deluxe version in this way.

Some great posts everyone. I would say this solidified my decision to buy the game tomorrow. (especially since I get a discount). Thanks all!

First of all, a new expansion or anything probably won't come out for a year. Also since there's no subscription cost it's very cheap for lots of enjoyment. Lets say an expansion comes out every year for $60 and you play on average one hour a day. That's $60 for 365 hours of enjoyment which is amazing. Now if you went to the movie theater five times in a year and it added up to $60 that's probably only like fifteen hours at the most. 365 hours>15 hours, no contest. I would say if you had a decent amount of money and like the game, get it!
