Well I think it has a chance but that's not saying much considering burn out got it one year which is a crap game imo. Tsw I can't see, not because it's bad or anything but the reviewers didn't recieve it well and those are the people who will pick game of the year more so than players I would think.
As for GotY. GW2 has little chance, given its a MMO. It will probably win MMO of the year, but more due to timing than for what it is.
Hey here's an idea. Let's start discrediting it early so if it does win, we can say "yeah I told you so back in August". It's not due to timing, it's the best MMO of the year.

Believe it or not other people do have opinions.
And I've seen people admit to talking shit about this game simply because they didn't like its fans, so I don't trust anyone saying something like "It was just due to timing". Oh, like the timing that involved games coming out shortly before and soon after and GW2 still hypothetically winning GOTY? What possible advantages did it have over the other MMO's in "timing"?
It's crystal ball time. Butyeah, this game has "it" TSW doesn't. (for me) It's all just speculation. But the game is good. It's damned good. TSW is OK, but not as good as GW2. I was in the closed beta for TSW. Honestly, I really can't say anything bad about it. TSW was OK, it was a decent game. But it did not grab me. I barely played it in CB. TSW once again proved my belief that creativity in MMOs was a thing of the past, and that no new ones would have it.
I even held that about GW2. I said, nahh, it's all the honeymoon phase in a few months it will die out and people will stop playing. But I bought it. And I'm glad I did. This game has broken my preconceptions.
Guess what. I'm having a blast with it. It's hella fun. Ok, so you might say, yeah, but it's going to be a ghost town in 3 months.
Maybe. But so what? I am having fun now. Isn't that all that matters?

If your gona do this properly, Then you have to separate 'Hype' from actual 'game analysis'
TSW - AoC - Aion - WOW - EVE - Fallen Earth - Co - Rift - || XNA C# Java Development
There is seriously something wrong in the MMO community because 90% of players have this mindset where "if it's not what I'm into, it's not right". It's honestly sad. If people like GW2 let them vote for it and be happy. Whatever game you're into there is honestly nothing bad that can happen from other people enjoying themselves. Next time you're about to post that message telling someone how wrong they are because they like x,y,z about a certain game just take a pause and remember they are not you. No one has to have the same mindset as you. There is really no benefit to anyone to spread hate, especially over video games. Really, what benefit does it serve to any party involved?
GW2 will have my vote for sure, and TERA will be 2nd on my list (though I skipped that one because of a PvP toggle on the PvP servers...) Didn't play TSW, so I can't comment on that, but hey, it's a FunCom title, and after AoC I decided never to BUY a FunCom title anymore...
Personally I think TSW hands down. It draws you into the world like nothing else and the skill system is awesome.
The storyline in GW2 is so bad that i cringe every time I see the dialog scenes. I've only played Asura but it seems from other people that the other suffers from bad writing and acting as well. Actually. Maybe I should start a Charr since that seems to be the most popular story line to see if it is anything.
I've yet to be able to pvp in gw2 either, only queue queue queue. The PVP is actually the thing I wanted to do in gw2 and pve in tsw. Hopefully the queues will be fixed eventually (like booting afk players in WvW).
In any case, both are sub free for me since I got life time for TSW and GW2 doesn't have a sub. I'll be popping into both for a while
I also play EVE from time to time, and here I am able to finance the game completely through ingame currency. The risk/reward in this game is to touch and feel and I keep comming back to it
Please tell me where a fantasy themepark with bright colors, classes, skill bar, and levels is different. Even the DEs are similar to systems in other games.
Youy actually need to try it for that.
But yes, they could have gone further with the changes, but it is the first post Wow themepark that doesnt feel just like Wow when you play it (Tera possibly excepted but GW2 is a lot better made).

Sense. Some people don't make it.
GW2 do have the right timing unlike LOTRO, but it is far from the only reason why people like it.
Wow released when EQ had start to loose players and popularity and GW2 is releasing when Wow is in the same state. LOTRO on the other hand (which also had some other issues, particularly that it feels too close to Wow) released when Wow was gaining the most players fastest, that is bad timing.
I am not a Wow player myself so that is not why I play but it is a advantage.
GW2 is this Emmerich/Bay/Cameron Blockbuster everyone wants to see with tons of SFX, while TSW is more like a french independent movie wich builds its immersion with good actors and a great story. I like both very much.
But Gaming Journalism is all about hype and money nowadays, so i dont give a s... which company pays the most for getting some prices.

Well, there's the problem. We dont have much groundbreaking games out there anymore.
Just another random copy of League of Legends/WOW/Battlefield/CallofDuty. The age of visionary computer games like Dungeon Keeper, Planescape Torment, Pupulous, Alpha Centauri etc.. are over.
Ok,Ok...Im drowning in the tears of my gaming past.

That's not quite what I was saying, but you understand what I meant. The thing is, it's not limited to WoW's declining playerbase, TSW and Tera have come out just recently and GW2 has obviously outsold both of them, even with almost no real advertisting. This is NOT a result of pure timing, it suggests that people were more excited about the game and since many have played it, suggests a higher quality of the product. Trying to sweep the success of a game that had no advantage other than how good it is by attributing it all to "Timing" is kind of a cheap shot, and it doesn't hold water. It comes across as desperate.
GW2 is even being released at a time when many people are going back to school or college, unlike Tera and TSW, so if anything, GW2 had a disadvantage in "timing".

MMO of the year seems to allow for expansions. So need to consider WoW. Im not a fan of MoP, but it's likely to get more votes just on the player numbers.

I want to see what the magazines and sites say. How many MMO of the year awards did Cataclysm get?

Likely none, but it was in for a chance. Check out the one for this site, it came second. Being beat by EVE Online. So GW2 does have some strong competition.

Too early to say; headstart was 3 days ago, and official launch is tommorrow. Needs at least 1 - 3 months for better idea of where it stands.
/thread.
Believe it or not other people do have opinions.
It doesn't do much new other than dynamic events. It's PvP is lifted straight from other games and not done as well.
Planetside 2 has a much better shot at GotY.

Have you ever played a SOE game at launch?
Every single one have been really buggy and it takes a long while for them to get it right. Then again, I dont think you have played GW2 either.
Not easy to compare GW2 and TSW.

Hodor!
I can agree with that, good analogie....
Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)
Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)
Well, there's the problem. We dont have much groundbreaking games out there anymore.
