I'm curious what others MMO's people have played & how that affects their opinion of this one. Many people are loving the game in its early stages or so it appears. Plenty of MMO's are like that early on. Will this game be able to maintain your interest for a long period of time or will it be a flash in the pan ?
I find that many MMO players suffer from social addiction. They keep playing because they fear missing out on something not because they actually do want to play. This is why so many people continue to play whatever MMO they're currently addicted to. I never really got that sense with GW1 but I did with other MMO's. Might sound bad at first but it something this game should cultivate.
Then again without a subscription based model why would they care if people play or not lol ?

Because if nobody plays, the game doesn't make money, and ends up dying?
it's an mmo, with server status, population influxes, cash shop for mankign on-going reveneu, and all the other stuff. In fact, in very few people are playing in a few months, even if they release an expansion in a year or something, players may not want to return because of just that.
Of course they care about how many people are in-game. It's an mmo after all. Not having a sub doesn't mean it can escape a poor profit, or maybe even failure. Just talk to the majority of teh f2p mmo market.
As far as the future ot the game, well, nobody knows. Like all other games, we have to wait.
Remember they have a cash shop so they want people playing the game and they want people spending real life cash in that shop.. no players = no money = no servers...
I am pretty sure they will make enough in the cash shops and from the sales of the game to keep the servers running and then fund the enxt exp pack.
What other MMORPG exp do i have? Lots i guess.. started with EQ1 and basically played every MMORPG worth playing since then and I dont exagerate.. i think the only major MMORPG i have not tried is aion..
My opinion on GW2 is that its well made and plays well but is basically the same old thing wrapped up slightly different. So people who enjoy fantasy themepark MMORPGs will probally enjoy GW2 quite a bit.
There are quite a few bad things about the game but i guess that can be said about any game..
