What the *beep* is "Rank points" in sPVP?

So you get glory and something called Rank Points for sPVP matches, what does rank pts do? Anyone know?

    If you look around the mist in a broken down building there are NPCs where you can purchase better looking gear if you are a certain rank.

    Unlocks cosmetic gear.

    in order to access different cosmetic gear vendors you need to have a certain rank.
