I just explained that I didn't have to sign up for anything. I added their twitter and facebook feeds to my RSS reader. I was trying to be helpful to others who don't have accounts with those services. ;-)

I'm interested, though. What other avenues are they using besides twitter and facebook? I already have their news feed from the main website in my RSS reader...but if there are more avenues I would be interested in adding them. =)

They've been posting quite a bit on www.reddit.com.

Do you know how to internet?

How did you find your way here?

    www.google.com

Try Google guild wars 2 problem

    about 31 700 000 hits.

    How cool is that.

or error code 42 gives 200,000+ hits.

    compared to one site.

but its players fault ? they dont know how to Google ?

No, it's the player's fault because they are too stupid to use logic and common sense instead of whining.

When they do not have forums (with reasoning that they've posted on various sites) where do you think they would post stuff?

Probably to the popular media sites that THEY LINK TO ON THE LAUNCHER.

You people wonder why games hold your hands so much these days and complain day in and day out about it on this site (because people like you are too lazy and stupid to think).

Why is "holding a hand" so bad? Because it is patronizing?

I have no problem with 'holding a hand'. I do have a problem with people who complain about how games 'holds their hand', yet they are too lazy to use logic to figure things out themselves (thus forcing the game to 'hold their hand').

Does that work the other way around too? I.e. does it apply to people who embrace Guild Wars 2's stance of being casual-friendly? I mean, according to you, if they want to be consistent, they have then to want Guild Wars 2 to keep on walking on the beaten path, which means that they have to get a forum and keep information flowing through official 1st-party channels.

Yea, which they've stated that they will.

I've never launched a MMO and have never worked with a team of 250+ people on a software product; if ANet says they want to focus resources on the game instead of the forums right now I guess I'll just take their word for it.

They probably are better informed and in a better position to make that call than someone who sits on forums and whines about how ANet runs their company.

Their motto used to be "When it is ready", but evidently that isn't the case anymore. They did not have the combination of manpower and proper systems in place to handle this launch smoothly.

The flaw is somewhere, either in the management, the programming, the PR, etc. If they thought all these mistakes were unavoidable their PR department could have scored a lot of points if they created a good article showing how these kinds of problems were unavoidable.

Oh, yeah. I check that out once in a while. I should probably figure out if there's a way to get just the dev posts in a feed. It's really hard to wade through all the conversations on that site (at least for me).

Couldnt they put something on the launcher or GW2.com that says "updates to the game and updates on current problems will be posted on these third party websites"

They could even just shove a twitter feed up on GW2.com and that would suffice.

You do realize how bad practice it is to have your news/updates listed off site? Even if you do consider those options, they are so scattered in how they announce stuff and its over-all a mess. They don't even mention those as methods to see whats going on and unless I missed it, there is absolutely nothing about what each patch does.

The communication on this game is by far one of the worst I've seen. No in game messages (unless your lucky), no news being posted for all to see, no on site information for the users, no links to event help direct them to off site news that they might want to know. I'm sorry, be in denial all you want since you want to desperately love this game and think its the perfect game but its not perfect, nor is ANet handling things perfectly. Such a thing will never happen no matter how much you want to love a game.

No offense, but those "Follow Us" links, appear just like that on the Cat Chow bag of food I feed my cat. It still doesn't tell me why I should go there. It's still not enough. At the very least, they should put a statement there that says, For announcements and updates.........

Talk about the minority stating something as fact.

No one I know uses Twitter or Facebook, and I've never had an MMO developer use either as their primary form fo communication. It's unprofessional and quite frankly bad all around.

If they want to communicate they can do so the proper way with a forum, or announcements page on their website letting us know what's up.

ANet is the FIRST company to purely communicate through Facebook & Twitter. It is a horrible idea, and I'll be bagging on them until they put a forums up. It is unprofessional otherwise to require people to use forms of communication in which ANet gets paid.

Oh, you didn't know Twitter & Facebook pay big companies for using either as long as they generate X amount of traffic? Heh, guess you know a bit more now huh?

    Ummm advertising mostly?

I've visted other companies social networks. And I've never felt it was good that I did. So why on earth would anyone who never followed GW2 before think any differently. Really people. This is not acceptable, Just because you know how they do it, after following them for years, doesn't mean it isn't half-assed. Most companies use their own site for important stuff. There is a level of liability and responsibility here. ANet is putting too much of it in 3rd party hands. And these other avenues can and do get hacked, Shut down, have their own tecnical issues as well as imposters. So when misinformation gets out that ANet didn't want, and Anet has no control over it, they are just going to look that much worse.

I can't help but call the OP out for writing absolute bull. Every time I've been in need of communication it's been there for me to read. They're constantly updating their twitter and Facebook with the required info. It's really not that hard to keep up with what's going on. I'm actually flabberghasted at the suggestion because they've been everything BUT bad communicators.
  • ConnmacartConnmacart Member UncommonPosts: 723

Well people. Keep complaining about not being able to complain.

I'm more than satisfied  with the launch.

Their excuse for having no forums right now is retarded. I don't understand the logic behind not having them right now on purpose when a lot of people are having issues and the only way to communicate is with tickets... which, they're now starting to complain about the overwhelming amount of tickets... Pull your head out of your ass Anet. Opening up the forums will significantly reduce the number of tickets because there will be a go-to place for discussions where not only can devs give support, but OTHER PLAYERS! I'm sorry, but I'm not gonna dig through hundreds of twitter posts to see if an issue is being worked on or if there is a fix just because Anet is too stupid to open their forums.

Kudos for being the 1st for posting something that actually helps instead of flaming people who haven't followed GW2 for years and not knowing things are done differently.

man i would hate to play a game where I had to get my info from facebook from the company or twitter or any of that crap.  I refuse to do anything with facebook or twitter unless im gonna get paid for it.  forums or not there has to be a better way for them to communicate with their customers, maybe like the launcher, dont know, I dont play the game but I would think this is crap too and also very cheap of them if I was playing their game.

screw facebook and twitter, i got no interest in either one and not gonna lower myself to get on one of those sites.

I'm sorry, but communicating solely through replying to people on Reddit is the correct way to do it. I'm surprised nobody else has done this as it makes communication more strategic and fun.

I would think that if any company intending to maintain a AAA MMO with 1M+ users had serious concerns that hosting official forums would cause instability of their game servers, then they have VERY serious issues with their infrastructure...and from my time with GW2 and experience with it's smooth, mostly lag-free play, I don't think that's  the case.

It's not that they expect the Forums to cause problems for the game servers, but rather the resources, specifically manpower, involved in setting up (and then keeping it going, since it is lauch and they would be slammed) is better spent on resolving issues, both in game and  with the account system.
