Nothing stoping your account from having been compromised over a year ago then if you haven't even bothered checking it

Its a big problem right now according to ArenaNet. You aren't the only one.

    Look at this:

    Quote:

This is the current status of the most important issues we're tracking with Guild Wars 2 live service.

Account security - We're seeing an uptick in reports of account theft and attempted account theft. We believe hackers are using databases of email addresses and passwords stolen from other games and web sites, and pre-existing trojan horses, to search for matching Guild Wars 2 accounts which they attempt to compromise. To prevent this, we have temporarily disabled the "reset password" feature, and we're working to bring email authentication online. To protect yourself, please ensure that you use a unique password for Guild Wars 2 that you don't use for any other game, email account, forum or web account.

If you used the same password over and over and are on forums or another game that was compromised, that is how it was done. USE DIFFERENT PASSWORDS and complicated ones - I am using a 16 letter, symbol number combination that is a pisser to type in but I bet a little more secure.

    NEVER RECYCLE PASSWORDS!!!

I had an email through saying someone tried to change my password...

Of course I totally ignored the email and deleted it but then went into my GW2 account and changed the password just incase..

It does seem that the hackers have gone crazy nuts over this game... kind of like the devoted fans who have gona crazy over it lol

    Oh that sucks m8 :(

I have been hacked once in WoW....its horrible :(

Hope you can get your accoutn back asap and join in on the fun again.

Also change your password every other month to make sure.

Ive done in after i was hacked in WoW 6 years ago and i havent been hacked since then.

Also make a difficult password and write it down on a paper and put it in a realy save place so it doesnt end up in a trashcan :)

I use Caps numbers figures for my passwords these days, and while no password is 100% save, its making it extremely hard for hackers to resolve your pass.

What type of security does MMORPG.com run?

"Other games", ya WoW and Diablo. Blizzard is a disease. :P

WoW is a disease that will infect your brain and your computer.

Bolded the appropriate section, the stupidity of individuals is no fault of ArenaNet.

Technically nobody is even being hacked. The use the term hackers because it's widely recognized, but the reality is that truly moronic people tend to play multiple games using the same exact login information, end up gettingcompromised in these other games, and as a result are able to be easily compromised in any other games they play using the same information.

All the thieves have to do is try people's info in the new game, and BOOM! You just lost your shit.

People need to (as Archie Bunker so perfectly put it) dummy up.

My email password is never used for anything else and i only check it  from my PC. The last time i changed it was when i built a new clean pc and i havent had to retype it since. So how the hell they got into my email and changed the email adress associited with my GW2 account is a mystery to me. Also my password is FAR from weak.

Hi guys, in order to not get 10 threads a day about the matter, we've decided to create a thread for it as we have in a handful of other forums. Please continue here: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/363238/Thread-For-Discussion-of-Phishing-Emails-Account-Security-Matters-.html
