Is PVP on the Horizon yet?

I couldn't bring myself to play past the second month after release (boredom) but promised myself if a PVP ruleset server was ever implemented I would try to be the first one there.  (I spent 5 years on Tallon-Rallos and then Sullon Zek and no other MMORPG experience has come close for me). 

 

Has anyone heard anything regarding PVP in EQ2?

Well, this is just my opinion, and certainly not everyone agrees.  To me this game was designed from the git go for RvR and it's just been a matter of time.  I am expecting to log in one day and find that war has broken out.  I think you can see hints of this all over the game now.

I'm sure a ways down the road they will impliment PvP of some sort into EQ2, but rest assured, they will make you pay $ for it.

The way the game is set up u would think there would be PvP already implimented, doesnt it scare anyone else that they dont even have dueling? kinda makes u wonder just how unbalanced the classes really are.

Class unbalance is what concerns me about PVP on EQ II.  It seems that the characters are setup mainly for PVE.

I mean does anyone think a cleric could beat a warrior of equal level ??

I hope that if they do have PVP they will put it on a separate server like they did on EQ I.

I don't think if PvP is balanced/created from early in the game design, that it will ever be balanced correctly.  If you balance everything around a PvE perspective, it will take forever, if impossible to balance pvp without destroying pve.

Even if they just add dueling, so they don't have to worry about balancing, they can expect tons of ovepowered/underpowered crys on their forums related to only dueling.

Im sure there will be pvp, just not what people might be hoping for. I think they will just add duels and arenas, and thats it. There are alot of things they can do to not ruin PvE, im sure they will find a way. There is already arenas set up in both Qeynos and Freeport but they say they are closed.

PVP was never big in EQ1.  Looking at the PVE servers vs the PVP servers it's 40+ to 1.  From SOE's point of view I can see why PVP would not be high on the priority list.  I read the "Good vs Evil Struggle" as more of the rich story and not anything more.

I think the FAQ says it best...

"Just as the original EverQuest was geared towards PvE (player vs. environment), EverQuest II has a similar focus. There are currently no plans for player vs. player combat in EverQuest II."

For my PVP gaming I am really looking forward to Guild Wars.  That game was designed as PVP and looks like it can do it well.  I would rather play that when in the mood for real opponents.

I would hate to see EQ2 implement full PvP and ruines the game and the storyline. The game is focused towards PvE to go along with the story, they want their players to go out and raid and discover new stuff and new chapters of the storyline. If they implement PvP it could change all of that.

From everything I've read from the Dev's that answer is never. It just leads to a class balancing tail spin like EQ where they are still working to balance classes.

They’re not going to do open PvP. Far too extreme from where we are now. Even the fairly obvious potential for Qeynos vs. Freeport RvR seems a bit extreme to me because you’d get endless complaining about people not being happy about which side they chose when the choice was made with no knowledge of coming RvR. Look at the whole story line the game is built on. Look at what’s being done in this adventure pack. What I see them doing is generating a good vs. evil sort of RvR situation with citizens of both Qeynos and Freeport being able to align themselves with either side and the "war" likely being contained to certain areas.

They know this is primarily a PvE game - they would never change that basic flavor. However, it would be absurd to have all these alignments in the game mean nothing - they won’t do that either. One thing that’s obvious by now is that there is enormous detailed planning and thought in the story line of this game, and they didn’t do that to pass the time.

If you really look at the game, it would be impossible to implement PvP which you could do anywhere with the current state of the world.  Once you get up to level 20 or something, then you get to areas with which both sides are mixed.  This world isn't segregated at all.  Sure they have 2 different cities, but they only have one dock on D'lere (comonlands continent), one dock on Karana (ant. continent), one dock on EL, one dock on Zek, one dock on Everfrost, one dock on Ferrot, and one dock on Lavastorm.  It isn't segreated at all!  So you would have people just sitting at the dock pvping everyone when someone bells in.  There would be NO safe spots besides for your city.  Most of the game is intigrated with the other side.  In Nek., everyone can get the same quests, all the npcs are friendly to both sides, each side has to use the same merhcants.  I have never seen an EL boatride group that is just Qeynos or just Freeport people, its always mixed, nearly everything is always mixed once you start going past your city walls.  From this conclusion i would have to say that open PvP would be impossible to achive, its most likely in my mind that they would implement a battlegrounds feature like WoW has coming out.

I keep thinking about it from a programming standpoint. Its not like they could flip a switch and all of a sudden you can PvP. This game was how many years in the making? If PvP wasn't part of the plan in the beginning I can't imagine it being added as an afterthought.

But, if I'm not mistaken, I've seen EQ1 PvP server no ?... For me the only thing to modify is the variable identifying if the player can be attack! .. nothing more..

Heu Ok why on Norrath do you want to level every class!! I've been a fan of D&D and at same lvl a Mage vs Fighter would always end up in a terrible lost by the mage! A real can of Whoop Ass is one of the three major food groups for a mage... at higher level.. this might change! Again PvP is possible .. but I doubt that ordinary players would understand my point of view.. (unless you played D&D)
