Why was there over 60k of files to download to update?

Why are you such a whiny little drone?

They made changes to the game. Go figure, huh?

cuz the person is downloading 900 MB with an estimated time of 6 hours?  Obvoisly, there is a problem.

The problem is his Internet. Downloading WoW's updates with that connection would take days.

But .. what if it wasn't the internet connection .. but instead the computer itself?

There is too much reliance of computer performace these days, which can be mitigated by other nefarious means.  If the OP expected and paid for 1.5M / sec connection and isn't getting it, there is a reason (of which may not be pretty).

You don't seem to realize how networking works yourself.

The advertised speed is theoritical, but not everyone (usually no one) ever reaches their said speed.  I pay for a 50M/sec line and even having professional level severs, I doub I'd ever acheive that speed regularly.  Unless you're paying for a true  dedicated line, you will never get that cap of yours.

Like most people, OP shares his connection with others in his area.

I suppose you just didn't read the upper most part of this thread.  I think we're on the same page.  Something is limiting the OP.

There are faster isp's somewhere but how do you pay for it when on a very tight budget!

An example of prices here, (slightly off topic) $1.30 for every 10kb of data for prepaid mobile phone data!

My current isp speed is 150kbs (which is about as fast as it gets on my connection)!

I guess I will get back to doing uni assignments rather than playing!

Yeah, we know you guys have it tough with MMOs.

But to be honest is it not the MMO devs fault, it is your local ISPs that have a oligopoly and ripping you off.

I envy the OP. Must be his first video game.

MMORPG genre is dead. Long live MMOCS (Massively Multiplayer Online Cash Shop).

fresh out of the box of cracker jacks???

seriously though factory build pcs unless laptops suck, they have too much useless crap loaded on them.

total net speed is how fast your pc pings out to your ISP then out to the server and back.. so even if you are 1.5mb total bandwith on downloading. if the target server has a lot of usage (game servers are always under load) you will most likely only get 50% of your total usage.  just like a peer to peer program will never give you max speed on downloading files if the peer you are getting it from is being overloaded.

the fact you are complaing about the update is rather funny.. cause i reinstalled world of tanks and it was about that for patches. my CSS gets up to that in file updates... this isnt 1990 where you can fit a whole game on a 4.5mb floppy.. or games that take up 100mb of space fully patched :/  you should always expect extra files even if you install from a disk. D2D or physical install is never going to be 100% updated, its always going to be 50% of the game (or 100% gold release - patches) lolol so even if you download 100gb for the main game you could still have 10gb of patches.. its just how games are now..

if the sizes bother you.. stick to chess and checkers out of a box :/

So somehow it is ANets fault that you are Australian? I don't get it, this your first game ever? Clearly your first MMO. There's no way to put this that isn't condescending - the game is patched, bigger and better.. get the fuck over it!

Yeah, and the gameworld is smaller. Guess what most of us prefer if we have a vote?

    Choose:

    1. No bug fixes and added content (which wil be comming) , no  updates

    2. Bug fixes and added content , updates

    First mmo ?

It is not even limited to mmo's these days. The day i bought BF3 and installed it i had a 5gb patch, thats right 5gb and then it still had to unpack and install.

You are looking that way ; the only issue here is you and your set-up. Get real.

I guess you would prefer something bug ridden or a later release date. Which didn't happen. 5GB of data in an hour is about right you should invest or move to somewhere that provides better I-Access.
