Just bought PS3, & I've been wanting to try this game....

I literally just bought my PS3 yesterday, and I have been dying to try this game out since I stopped playing FF11 many years ago. I love everything about FF11 for the most part. Is that real? It's being release for PS3 at the end of december and its 39.99? I am confused. Maybe its a scam...
All I know is that I want to play this game, but I don't want to dish out 60 bucks if there is a cheaper, newer version of the game coming out SOON; besides I thought that ver. 2.0 would be free?
Also, how much space does FF14 take up on the ps3? Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated
