When will they announce A Song of Ice and Fire Game?

This has really been the most popular fantasy book series and television show for quite some time now, when are they going to make the game?

It's the perfect setting for an MMO or RTS.  Facebook trash doesn't count!

The series has a great potential to be an MMO. If orginal bioware was around I'd have them make an RPG. I don't even know what company I would trust to make a GoT mmo.

The market alone for GoT series is enough for a giant to hop on it and make profit. Quality of MMO does not even matter anymore as long as a profit can be made. Of course there are exceptions but, isn't profit the goal of creating any mmo?

GoT has a great lore for an MMO.

  • Aren't there already two mediocre games based on that setting?

Games based on books often stink.  LOTRO was pretty good, but it had massive limitations due to the lore.  ASOIAF would be even more restricted with only playable humans and a lack of diverse enemies.  Plus the books themselves are highly political in nature with not a lot of battles.

I think there is an turn-based strategy game and an RPG already. The former looked quite horrible, the latter was no bad, but not very good either.

The book themselves provide incredible amounts of lore and storyline. I don't see humans as the only choice to playable race as a problem because there are so many differnt kingdoms you can belong to or possibly even create your own. It could be played as a hybrid MMO. With themeparks missions etc . for NPC kingdoms and sandbox play for your own kingdom, crafting etc. Diverse enemies? The game has dragons, sea monsters, frost giants and huge amounts of enemies. Yet, the books hold detailed battles when they do, just because they are not  "... alot of battles" does not mean that an mmo with pvp would hold the same. Also, there are battles which have not been described but, mentioned which can be used for storyline.

The lore would make it an awesome RTS.

OP: This article was written for you! Worth reading the full article:-

Gamasutra: Cable TV of Thrones: Why Game of Thrones Doesn't Work as a Game

    [...]

It isn’t that turning Game of Thrones into a game can’t work, it’s just that there’s a mental gap in the way that it’s been done so far—a gap that seems destined to widen. The planned MMORPGGame of Thrones: the Seven Kingdoms seems even less appropriate a direction to take. In an MMO, every player is created equal. Each class is balanced according to planned challenges. A player can improve their ability and standing by gaining a predictable resource (experience) through a predictable means (completing quests).

One can rise in an MMO relatively easily. The conditions for getting better are flat and unchanging. That isn’t how Game of Thrones works in its other incarnations. Personal morality, bias, and tragedy muddies everything. Characters never know what to do, and they’re constantly left to make hard decisions with incomplete information against several competing groups—that is when they have enough autonomy to make a decision for themselves at all.
