I agree with you here. I gave a soapbox rant the other day on these forums about how people say a game is "all about the journey". When we all know that it's not. You may wish it was, but it's not. When you get to the end and there is nothing to do, you quit. Maybe If that was your intention all along, then you can say it was all about the journey.
The levels in GW2 are sort of like GW... they're just a number. When I got to 80 the only difference to me was that 1) I could go anywhere in the world 2) I could start thinking about gear (i'm never one to go after gear during the levelling phase.) Beyond that, not a whit has changed in how I play and what I do. I still haven't touched pvp or wvw (besides just logging in for monthly achievement), still have to raise one of my two crafts, still have 49% (plus hidden stuff) of the world to explore, still haven't played a single match at keg, tons of achievements and titles to get (to not talk about armor and wpns), and then there's all the alts I want to do, etc. etc.
So it is about the journey, but it didn't stop at 80 whatsoever for me.
@Borick and Lorkii - Did you for some reason expect it was a sandbox? Doing any sort of research on the game before buying would have told you it wasnt.
BTW, the question was regarding what you expected, not wether or not you liked it. If you expected it to be a sandbox, thats kind of your own failing. If you expected it to be a themepark with some differences between it and other themeparks... then it was what you expected.
I knew that I was purhasing a themepark game. I enjoyed WoW as much as the next guy, but GW2 doesn't feel the same to me. It's had to put into words just what the differences are -- there are themepark elements to the game that just seem to go overboard and make the world feel like a casino rather than a world to me.
The game 'dings' like a slot machine, like the worst annoyances of the WoW achievement popups but with the noisemaking of a one-armed bandit. Even my inventory plays out like a game-game-of-chance minigame.
Other themeparks I've played didn't sell out so far into flashy-clangy grab-your money Vegas-style.
If GW2 was a themepark I might feel more connection to it, but it really seems more like a casino than anything.
Also, no mounts. No collision detection. No 'real' aiming skill beyond the contrived dodge mechanic. WoW is still a better themepark game, and I'm sick and tired of WoW, so why should I want to play GW2?
Best pvp since eve / planetside Better than normal pve (i slightly prefer tsw for pve though) Raiders won't like it :P tough they've been spoilt rotten for almost a decade, arenanet made a game for the rest of us, rather than the minority

Funny, I m a huge pvper, hate raiding, and really a casual MMO player, and theres nothing I like at all about GW2. As the poster above said, it feels like a casion, I said to my wife, it feels like a carnival, fun in spurts, but a rip of in the end. Of course this is my opinion.
You know it is really unfair to flame him and insult for giving his opinion when topic asks for it?
What are you tryign to accomplish here with such a mega flame? OP clearly asked for how you feel and when people write how they feel fans like you jump their bones? seriously WTF?

But the poster above also said that GW2 has no collision and it has collision on target. He also stated that WoW is a better themepark which is his opinion, but there isn't a lick of collision in that game except in your pocketbook every month.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
Pve - just what I expected. Decent. A bonus but not why I bought the game Wvw - exceeded expectations Visuals - exceeded expectations (cranked up all the way) PvP and balance: almost perfect to me, but I expected and needed this (badly) Overall longevity: WAY above expectations. About 100 hours in across 2 characters ... not lvl 30 yet. Way too much to do. People already hitting 80 are strange to me.
It's exactly what I imagined given the systems they have in place and is very fun to play.
Events are static, at least what I have experienced at level 33, but they are given in such an active manner that it continues to be fun the fourth time you've escorted that merchant to the next town. Granted, this is only if you stay in the same place for a long time. XP is so abundant in pretty much everything you do so if you are exploring as much as you can the events are natural and as said before, really fun.
There's more to GW2 of course but the events and world really set it apart. IMO it's the best themepark MMO out there right now.

I'm sorry that I missed being flamed, but I don't put much stake in target-only collision detection.
I'm aware that there is no collision detection in WoW, but it's still a better themepark (In my opinion). Collision detection, fixed reticle and first-person perspective are what I'm looking for in an MMO these days.

And none of this clangy casino-style crap.
I actually rarely even target things when I play with a heavy melee or ground-targeted build. I just run in, fire my skill, and it hits what it collides with.
The only type of gameplay that really relies on tab target is long range, non-ground targeted stuff.
Sooo I know you want pure FPS...but I don't think that the collision based skills in GW2 are gimmicky by any means.

The Dynamic Events, node/mob/loot sharing has really created a more organic feel (imo). I personally have not seen so many people working togther in a long time. At times Im planning to go do a specific thing, then find my self caught up in a DE with other playes, and the more there are the more fun the DEs get (imo). And ya at times the DEs can get repetitive but over all its enjoyable not having a "Quest log" full of quests and having to keep track of 20-40 of them at a time. Honestly I did not think the PvE was going to be on par with their PvP, but it is...and imo this is kinda what WAR should have been,I still miss WAR too
It's pretty much exactly what I expected it to be in nearly every regard. It's a ton of fun. After a solid 200+ hours including the beta, I'm still encountering awe inspiring moments, which why I play MMOs.
Id like to point out leveling 1-80 is NOT gw2's focus. Exploring, doing puzzles, crafting, events etc list goes on n on that is the point og gw2 as it was with gw1. the game revolves around exploring and your story line. Those who seem to complain are still glued to wow's style, However its time you accept the change, The genre needed this change and with hopes itll only get better!
game went well beyond wat i thought it would and got me hooked. Anet did it rite in my book. SOme of you will disagree, but thats your opnion. I also noticed this site has a few people mass making alt fourm chars just to keep bashing the game and trying to work people up. So i take any info from this site with a grain of salt. Ill get warned for this post, as in the past when i said this i did. *shrugs* back to gw2 XD

Actually, I really think the game allows for a LOT of different playstyles, and all of them are very fun. I tend to oscillate between different playstyles all the time, and that may be why I love GW2 so much. It gives me the freedom to do whatever I want.
If I want massive PvP battles...WvW.
If I want intense PvP competition...sPvP
If I want to explore...just wander around and find hidden secret places (there are a LOT of them)
If I want to craft...Hunt for ingredients
...there's more too, just a whole lot to do in this game.

Nah, you're not getting what I'm saying...I'm not trying to take sides here. Just stating a trend.
There is no problem with Faded saying he doesn't like the game...or stating his opinion. You get into arguments though, when his opinion is phrased as an objective fact. For example...
OK:
I don't like WvW, I feel like I'm just running with a zerg all the time.
Not OK:
WvW is just a massive zergfest.
See the difference? And it goes both ways too...here is the other side of it.
OK:
It's cool that you don't like the game, I really like it, but not everyone will.
Not OK:
You don't like this game? You are obviously playing it wrong. That, or you are either a troll or just burned out on MMORPGs in general.

You know when I was in the military, I took courses on communication skills, it was part of our managment requirements as we went through our career. One of the things we learned was that human communication consists of 90 percent (I think that what it was) body language and hidden cues, and 10 percent is the actual words. So, writing out what you are saying sometimes is misunderstood. Creslin, I suggest you make stick figures with facial expressions and hand gestures in the margin for us to follow!

Hahah I've heard that as well.
I guess that's what smilies and different fonts are for lol.
It is what I expected AFTER playing the beta. Even before then I was prepared for DEs to be less than what I expected them to be. The thing is, this playstyle is by far better than any other questing system in any MMO I played yet.
My only gripe with the DEs are the big boss events. They are just too simple. Sure you might die because of how powerful they can be, but they just seem so easy.
What I did notice tho, was they're a lot more difficult to do if you're not with a million people. I believe when the population settles down they will be much more enjoyable. Currently, it's usually a huge zerg and I think that ruins the experience.
For future Boss events, I believe ANet needs to make it so it requires some sort of strategy.
You know it is really unfair to flame him and insult for giving his opinion when topic asks for it?
