No clue why people have a need to jusitfiy someone's dislike as anything more than ermmm Doh !! Just not liking it .
It depends on how you see it and if you understood the message behind it.
I already had wrote what I understood behind it in a other posting under the general discussion of the main forums while from what I could read here, a other guy described it even better than me in this topic so I didn't wrote my interpretation again.
If you dislike it then all the power to you, everyone has its likes/dislikes.
What I meant with "heavy" to some was all the "what was this?" replies from people that didn't understood the background of the trailer at all.
I didn't meant to insult anyone by that, I just meant that it would had been maybe a better approach to involve the narrative more so people can understand the trailer easier.

The reason I'm saying that is that when I see all the reactions in the forums here and under the general discussion of the main forums, it looks as if it were a bit "heavy" for some.
Another,if you didn't like it it's because you didn't get it post,okay.
We are not as intelligent as you.
Please reread what I wrote and try to understand the meaning behind my words without being totally negative towards people that liked the trailer cause I'm pretty sure that I wrote nothing about people that dislike it?

A trailer is suppose to drum up interest on w/e product you are selling.
Look at 'Dead Island' and how amazingly well it did just because they produced the best game trailer in history.
This trailer felt out-of-place and didn't tell GW2 at all except the last 3 seconds.
This trailer isn't suppose to appeal to GW2 players, they already bought it. It is suppose to appeal to people that don't have GW2.
If you never played GW2 and saw that, would you think you got a good idea on what GW2 is?

Cool you added a new word 'heavy' to the list . So far people who dislike trailer are...

u got it.
looks like i have to buy gw2 and play it to GET it.
i absolutely loved GW1 and own all addons and have over 8k hours gametime on my account but GW2 is absolutely not for me so i guess that is why i dont GET this trailer and find it absolutely silly how they are trying to bring over the message.
There's something..... liberal about that trailer. I think it may be the musk of pretentiousness. I still can't get over why on earth they made that...
I don't even really like GW2, but even I had major douche chills while watching it.
I like the trailer, at least it's different from all the costy CGI trailers.
I guess those who don't like it just want some flashy computer generated stuff which in no way reflects the game anyway.
Nice strawman there but no one said anything about flashy computer CGI. And nope even this trailer doesn't reflect the game in any way either. They could have just used more in game footage like they did in the end, that would reflect the game a lot more.
Originally posted by jpnz If you never played GW2 and saw that, would you think you got a good idea on what GW2 is?
I'd get an incentive to investigate further.
Frankly, I can't recall a trailer that would be informative or in any way accurate. Ever seen DA2 "Destiny" trailer? While I didn't hate DA2 and I still think it was a decent single-player ARPG, ironically the trailer featured one of the most disappointing and poorly designed fights in the whole game. In the trailer it looked epic but in the game it was just an annoying kitefest.

I see we are on a little crusade against the trailer. Bored at work today (or at home)? ;-)
What I mean is that at least they tried something different, and that's a good thing. And I happen to like the result.
They could of course have made something like a CGI Human, Norn, Asura, Charr and Silvari charging into battle to kill some mobs, like the SW:TOR trailers, which were very nice and which I like a lot (I actually wish Bioware would stop "committing" games and make a movie like that instead), but they dared to try something different, just like their game is different and not just one more WoW clone.
In this world of uniformity, a try at something different is always commendable, whether I like it or not.

Bored at work...and posting total of 4 times in a hilarious topic where crazy fans keep telling others 'you don't get it' would hardly be a crusade.
However i still prefer their hand painted style trailers. If i never knew about GW2 i will just watch this trailer and look the other side.
BTW, anyone else noticed how the can says blue, but the paint is red when she draws? I lol'ed
I'm going to have to look again. Interestingly enough, the director has ties to the Matrix... I wonder if that wasn't done intentionally?
Which one is it Volkon? Red or blue spray paint? But really, i noticed when someone pointed it out on reddit last night. Just stop the video in time and you can see it.
I did notice in that scene that the spray paint starts being written on the building, but ends up being written in mid air (covering the "air" part of the "Earth, Air, Fire, Water" quad). I liked the firewalking scene... the dragon in the smoke makes him hesitate, but the crowd gives him the confidence to go for it.

This trailer had mainly to do with the company, what they did different and what they stand for through the creation of guild wars 2.
So it's not really a "Buy our game" trailer but rather "that's why our game has become different than the others" trailer.
I'm quite sure that a "Buy our game" trailer will come at a later point and will look different.
For now there is barely a need for such a trailer after so many copies sold and the servers being packed cause the whole advertisement took rather place through "word to mouth" methods through the community and fans from GW1 itself.
Also alot through their previous manifesto trailer that got many people interested before.
Issue is that 90% of the trailer didn't represent the game anyway.
Why not tell a story or something with in-game graphics like the last 10sec of that trailer?
But the trailer tells a story and contains a message. Of course, it's not as obvious as Kung Fu Panda owning an orc and a humen (I like that trailer a lot too, don't get me wrong).
EDIT: at least Raekon got it too
