When do you think Chinese games will dominate the market?

LienhartLienhart Member UncommonPosts: 662

Recently I had a discussion in my business class regarding China's huge grip over the world. Nobody gives a shit about their sweat shops, missiles, or violations of freedom simply because they hold way too much cash, power, and have the ability to start a retarded war using smaller countries (think supplying NK or Iran with missiles). Then we started talking about technology and the US being the lead in both hardware and software (computers, remember that current gen consoles all use hardware/software pieces developed from the US). It's been this way for 50 years but with the way Indian and China have been going, the majority of the intellectual folk are no longer here, they were being educated in China/ and Indian years ago.

The question isn't whether or not the Chinese or Indians will dominate the IT market, the majority of the class (I didn't hear a single person disagree), the question is WHEN? I wonder if every game will end up with built in gold selling mechanics =/

I live to go faster...or die trying.

Service and tech industry do not drive the entertainment industry. Thats like saying japan dominates the movie industry because they make the cameras. Maybe one day when the majority of us speak, read, and write chinese...but that probably wont happen in our lifetime.

Topic says when will they dominate games, yet you ask if they'll dominate IT. I don't think they'll dominate games as they don't cater to us. I also don't feel they will dominate IT as I can just look back into history and see a trending pattern.

Why? China is a glass house. With global warming changing their landscape (their land IS drying up, and not just from human consumption), their stranglehold on precious minerals being limited as more has been discovered (yet not tapped) I can't see them lasting. And don't forget, western civilization educated them. I live in Kitchener-Waterloo... you should see the amount of chinese (and yes, chinese not just anyone from asia) that are here going to our universities. I have nothing against them, but loving history as much as I do... I don't see it happening. Heck, I don't see the states staying #1 for ever either though. Also, they can't keep stealing our technology for ever! Good time to bring this up as on google news there were many links regarding the UK, Canada, US and Germany listing China as the biggest IT thieves they have to deal with.

edit: also this is in the wrong forum. Yeah... I'm "that guy" lol

When they enslave the US and force every citizen to farm gold in WoW to pay back the money we owe them?

I would say step one would be learning how to make one that doesnt totally blow.  Then they can work on making more than one that doesnt blow.  Then we can talk about market share.

Asian countries revolve on Pervy and Cute.

When pigs sprout wings and fly.

“There are certain queer times and occasions in this strange mixed affair we call life when a man takes this whole universe for a vast practical joke, though the wit thereof he but dimly discerns, and more than suspects that the joke is at nobody's expense but his own.”

China survives on cheap labor (manufacuring sweat shops) and by stealing ideas from other countries. Innovation isn't their forte. In short, the answer is: never. Sometime in the near future, ie witin the next 20 years give or take, the country will suffer the same fate as other "Arab Spring" countries. The people will rise up against their corrupt communist government and the country will colapse. That's just my opinion though :).

That was the...most over blown lead-in to that last sentence (and title).

"I wonder if every game will end up with built in gold selling mechanics =/"

Did you really have to quantify China as some kind of evil empire to validate that last sentence. LOL!

And to answer that question. No, they will not dominate the game market with gold selling MMO's.

And it has nothing to do with how many missiles they sell, or regimes they back, or sweat shops they run, or IT personel they have. None of that has anything to do with gaming.

And by the way, you are not a teacher. You are a student in the class where that disscussion took place.
