Thinking of playing again

I am thinking of trying Rift again but I have a question first. Does anything happen if a zone event is failed? I played Rift for a few months after release. I enjoyed the game as much as any I have played with the exception of UO. My only major complaint back then was that the zone events didn't seem to make any difference in the world. As an example, mMy buddy and I were in a zone with a big event going on. The event was failed and a ton of group mobs showed up everywhere. After about 5-10 minutes the zone reset and was back to how it was before the event. I thought the zone being taken over by group mobs was great and was very disappointed when they all disappeared. Is it still the same or are there repercussions for failing events now?

In a way, kinda, but nothing that is lasting. Basically, duing events, rifts start spitting out invasion mobs like grade schooler with a PEZ dispenser. At which point they all make beelines for the ward outposts. If undefeated, they will take over the outpost (usually the quest hub for the area as well) destroy the ward and establish a foot hold, from there, they will spawn dozens of mobs. Taking them back can be fun if you have a group to do it. If you are questing along solo, you just have to wait. In time, the invasion mobs will disperse and the setting will return to normal on it's own.

However, Inspite of newly released games with revolutionary dynamic questing built into them, I still say that Rift's zone invasions (IMO) are absolutely hands down, without a doubt, the best open world PVE spontaneous raid experience on the market currently. And they happen at all levels all the time.
