Why can I not help but think this has to do with a certina player who's character name starts with "I" and the intentional trolling that ensues?
If this is related, I agree, it gets out of control and GMs need to get involved. It always escalates.
I understand your curiousness, everyone would love to know particulars but to do so would be in violation of my ethical viewpoints towards a persons privacy.
I have not contacted these individuals and have not asked for persmission to post trasnscripts or names of the offending parties plus, since Trion says they are investigating this, I do not want to tip off these people to that fact as well. I would prefer to let them get caught in the act and dealt with in whatever way Trion deems necessary.
I very much appreaciate your feedback on the subject matter and I can only say that there are plenty of occurrences in this past week alone that has been witnessed to or affected by this type of behavior.
I think as a whole, the majority of people would not tolerate this behavior but heres the question for you if you dont mind, would you stop this behavior from happening to a total stranger on a server. The scenario is this, you login, and right from the start you see the 1-29 chat or the 50 chat alive with commottion, people going back and forth and eventually you come to the conclusion they are targetting one person. Now this one person is continually responding and of course the others are just baiting, you might see or two ringleaders trading shots but overall it is degrading to that invidual.
Now recognize that we know when someone is just being a troll to start something versus a person who is on the defensive. The way to tell is by emotional responses vs abstract nonsense response.
At least by my references that seems the way it goes. If I am wrong or soemone else has a better explanation to recognize then please share with us.
What would be your response and there really is no right or wrong answer and if you dont feel comfortable answering then I respect your decision.
Either case thank you very much for participating, I find these kinds of dialogues a learning experience for myself as well as others.
In no way Am I trying to dig to find out the dirt or low down on a prticular player. But what I have witnessed is a bad situation that is out of control and does need Trion to step in. It's not going to stop otherwise and it doesn't just impact those involved. It impacts everyone who has to see this nonsense.
And for those who think that bullying in an MMO doesn't have real life consequences or is just as simple as putting someone on ignore.
Players and guilds that follow the simple rule of keeping drama out of public chat areas avoid most of the nonsense associated with the perception of being bullied. If another player flames you in public chat for something you just did in group or raid you should respond via private tells only, if at all, and put them on ignore. You will not get anywhere but more upset by taking them on in the public chat channel.
I have seen a lot of players rage quit MMO's due to this kind of drama. In most cases the rage quitter was a drama queen who loves to overreact and throw fuel on the fire by being confrontational instead of diplomatic when things didn't go his way.
I wish there was a way to "vote off" those server trolls that bascially change the emotional environment of the game by their contant unneccessary chatter. It's just not possible, though, since gangs of troublemakers would likely use such policy to gang up and vote off players at their whim.
How would you do it though, do you think posting on a review website is a good venue? Any suggestions would be very much appreciated as I value everyones feedback, good or bad.
I already outlined the steps that one would normally take in such a situation in this very thread...
Stating that if Trion does not respond to a post you made here, that you will fabricate a reply on their behalf - well, seriously?
There still have been absolutely no details about the bullying situation, but to an extent - those do not really matter. It's a subjective thing - what Person A might see as bulying may not be bullying to Person B.
B. Rules Related to "Chat" and Interaction With Other Users
Communicating on the Site, in a Game or through the Service with other users and Trion representatives, whether by text, voice or any other method, (collectively, “Chat”) is an integral part of the Game and the Service.
You understand that, by using the Chat features, you may be exposed to communications (including in written, verbal, electronic, digital, machine-readable or other form) that you might find objectionable. You understand that any content sent or appearing through a Chat feature is the sole responsibility of the individual(s) transmitting such content. This means that you, and not Trion, are entirely responsible for all content that you transmit. Under no circumstances will Trion or its third party providers be liable for any errors or omissions in any content or for any loss or damages of any kind incurred as a result of the access to, downloading, viewing, listening, use of or inability to use any content, including User Content.
When engaging in Chat, you may not:
Transmit or post any content or language which, in the sole and absolute discretion of Trion, is deemed to be offensive, including without limitation content or language that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, hateful, sexually explicit, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable, nor may you use a misspelling or an alternative spelling to circumvent the content and language restrictions listed above;
Carry out any action with a disruptive effect, such as intentionally causing the Chat screen to scroll faster than other users are able to read, or setting up macros with large amounts of text that, when used, can have a disruptive effect on the normal flow of Chat;
Disrupt the normal flow of dialogue in Chat or otherwise act in a manner that negatively affects other users, including without limitation posting commercial solicitations and/or advertisements for goods and services available outside of the Game universe;
Sending repeated unsolicited or unwelcome messages to a single user or repeatedly posting similar messages in a Chat area, including without limitation continuous advertisements to sell goods or services;
Communicate or post any user's personal information in the Game, or on websites or forums related to the Game, except that a user may communicate his or her own personal information in a private message directed to a single user;
Harass, threaten, stalk, embarrass or cause distress, unwanted attention or discomfort to any user of the Game or the Site;
Participate in any action that, in the sole and absolute opinion of Trion, results or may result in an authorized user of the Game or the Site being "scammed" or defrauded out of gold, weapons, armor, or any other items that user has earned through authorized game play in the Game (including but not limited to participation in player-run casinos, including those that utilize the roll mechanic); or
Impersonate any real person, including without limitation any "game master" or any other Trion agent or employee, nor may you communicate in the Game, or on the Site or Service in any way designed to make others believe that your message constitutes a Server message or was otherwise posted by any Trion agent or employee.
It's pretty straightforward - the standard, if you will. So if you feel that 10.B.1 and 10.B.6 have been violated - I would go through what I suggested earlier in the thread.
You may have to accept though, that what you feel is bullying - does not qualify as bullying - based on industry and legal standards....
Where exactly did I say I was going to fabricate anything on behalf of Trion?
I simply asked Trion to respond in a professional manner in regards to bullying and steps to prevent this from happening again. You appear to be compelled to post information that really has no regard for the questions I have asked.
I appreciate your feedback but I detecting your are trying to defend Trions lack of response to an issue that a majority of players are already tired of.
Thank you for posting, are you a representative from Trion?
Do you have permission from Trion to answer this question on there behalf? Is this what you mean by fabrication?
What exact industry and legal standard definitions are you referencing just so we are all on the same page.

Wow, that is very scary, thank you so much for posting that. Yes that is quite frightening.
The end result of that particular investigation was a 30 day ban for the offending player. He got off easy. He should have been perma-banned, but still, Even CCP took a stand of all companies.
You stated that if Trion did not respond to your post on MMORPG.com (a post they may not have even seen) that you would take that as their response. Thus, you would be fabricating a response on their behalf.
You've said that you were bullied. Again, the particulars of that do not actually matter - it's what you felt. There is no changing that. The method for dealing with such a scenario is very common. You have not stated that you have done such. You really have not stated much of anything other than something transpired - apparently over a period of time - where you decided to quit.
People can feel for you - no doubt, nobody wants to be bullied. At the same time, there are steps that game companies have in place for you attempt to resolve such issues. What have you done?
To an extent unfortunately, it appears that this thread is little more than a trolling attempt - a desire to paint RIFT's community and Trion in a bad light. Then the addition of saying that you will go back to TSW?
As if Funcom does not have the same issues and the same methods for dealing with such issues? Pretty much every company has something in their CoC/ToS/EULA about it. Because it can happen anywhere - and - they've come up with a pretty standard way for everybody to deal with it. Baddabing, baddaboom - the issue will be resolved...
...as long as there actually is an issue.
I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?
I don't know who you are and I'm not asking, but I hope after a bit of time to cool down and let the dust settle, you can return in a month or 2.
Thank you very much for the sentinement and I really do hope to as well. Rift was one of my favorites, just refuse to see that stuff anymore. Life is short enough as it is.

That is not a fabrication, at no time did I state Trion said this, but lack of a response regarding this topic is probably worse.
Do the math on that one.
I have already stated I will not talk about the particulars of the events as they transpired. I brought that here so future consumes can be aware of what happened to myself and others in Rift and we did report and nothing has been done, a week has gone by. How much time does a company really need to remove an offending player?
The steps that Trion has to fix this problem has gone unchecked and if you dont like the response to that then that is your problem. A lot of people here recognize that Trions lack of enforcement towards matters like this are well known.
If you feel this is a trolling attempt then by all means move on to a new thread and allow us to dialogue without further interruption or distortion of facts from your viewpoint.
I dont feel bringing up Funcom is necessary or offers any intelligence value to reach a solution in how Trion handles enforcement of TOS/EULA. How you draw this connection is mystery so please share that if you will.
You still have not answerd my question if you are an employee of Trion or have permission by Trion to answer these questions. If you do please message me if not please stop responding as I feel you are more interested in an argumentative response.
So you would report the two posts based on how they violated the RoC. The moderators would look at it. They might get a warning. If there's a history, they might get a temp ban. If there's a bad history, they might get a perm ban.
It happens pretty much everywhere and pretty much everybody has the rules in place and a method for dealing with those that violate the rules...
I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?
This is funny , you quit a game over someone else? I guess you need more willpower Maturity , common sense I cant even type anything , this is retarded .. Nobody feels sorry for you move on , dont cry though in your next game lol..
That is an interesting concept, in what ways will willpower maturity keep me and others from being bullied?
I dont want people to feel sorry for me, in truth im not the only victim here.
If thats all it takes, this willpower maturity then please share with us how this works! This could be the answer we are looking for!
That is not a fabrication, at no time did I state Trion said this, but lack of a response regarding this topic is probably worse.
It is a fabrication. Did they read your post? Did they then decide not to respond? That's one thing.
By fabricating a response on their behalf, you're actually breaking the law. It's also a violation of the RoC here.
Do the math on that one.
There's no math involved. BS is BS.

Right, and being unable to backup your claims in any fashion is a violation of the RoC here. It's also something that Trion could take you to court over.

So you ignored the users. They created additional characters or enlisted the aid of other characters to continue the verbal assaults - so you reported them for doing that. They continued. You contacted customer service on the issue. The CSRs failed to address the issue, so you made an attempt to contact their corporate offices. Again, they did not resolve your issue. So you came and posted on MMORPG.com... right?
/cough

You have provided ZERO facts. It's been a case of attempting to assist you in getting your issue resolved. You appear not to be interested in this in the least.

By pointing out ways in which you could attempt to resolve your issue? Hrmmm, that pretty much says it all...

I agree they do have rules and I also agree that they are in place for consumer protection. Yet the bullying continues though.
When will it stop, or when will the rules catch up to the point where the people breaking these rules are held accountable.
I dont doubt that rules were put in place for a reasons and they are pretty much covered, if thats the case though, why are so many people being bullied? Why do so many ppl think it is ok to witness this and not intervene.
That could be someones life in the balance and we the internet folk would never know. Even if we saw it on the news, we would truly not know until we get that knock on the door. The infamous knock.
The fact that your sitting here saying you want a response from Trion on mmorpg.com is pretty stupid to say the least. Go post on Rift forums. Even it it gets moved or deleted it will still be seen by a Trion employee. Better yet just contact Trions customer service. Theyw ill gladly listen to your problem and maybe able to actually offer something.

As I have said before, you are really good at being argumentative and removing from the facts of the conversation. You have not answered a single question posed and instead proceeded to accuse, threaten, and now flame your responses.
Are you capable of responding in a professional, non-bullying way? Its not that hard, just breath when you type. Consider the other persons feelings, put yourself in that persons shoes. Now, how does make you feel? Now stop, before you respond, remember put yourself in the other person shoes, pretend to be them and read what your about to type, if it makes you upset, then reconsider! Its that simple!
I feel like your logic is a little off in regards to what you perceive to be rulesets and your use of legal threat etc only serves a buffer zone for yourself, so dont feel bad about that. Thats a common thing actually. Lots of people throw that around when they get backed in a corner, I dont want to put you in a corner, so please dont feel threatened, I assure I am harmless as a mouse.
Speaking of legal, does Clint Eastwood know you are using his photograph for your avatar? I only ask because I would not want you to get in any "legal" trouble as you put it. Unless you are Clint Eastwood! I have had to ask permission to use songs, statements, etc from famous people before. Most of the time they agree as long as you are not bringing them a disservice such as a flaming in forums with a famous persons picture, etc. Viewpoints are everything to actors, you know what I mean.
No matter how hard your little brain tries, you will never get the particulars of the events as they transpired in Rift and I am very sorry you are upset to warrant this kind of response to a thread about bullies. Kinda ironic though! So, we covered how to respond, what happens to the bully at the end though?
Care to elaborate? We are getting so much information about this concept and I really think we are making some headway here so please continue! Looking forward to reading more!

No one here can help you with this QQ post.
Actually the data we have gathered today has quite much helped. Thank you for that idea about posting, but the necessary documentation has already been filed with Trion, screenshots, etc. Not sure how those screenshots will work as those can be altered.
Plus as most of you already know, posting on a game company website tends to be locked or modded, or poofed and this is something thats needs to be known by consumers. Its a consumer right I guess you would say.
Well that is your opinion, and I dont think I am stupid, calling people names is not very nice either, if you want to dialogue then please feel free to bring something to the table! Intelligence would be a plus!

No one said that you were stupid. I guess reading comprehension isn't high on your priority list. It's says that sitting here expecting an answer from a company is stupid. The situation is dumb. Because...well.... it is. Venting is all fine and dandy but you’re expecting something that just isn’t going to happen. No one every said ScarletGreen you're a moron.
Rift forums are pretty much open and if you have ever looked that them you’d see that people posts complaints all the time and they are never deleted. Trions Mods aren’t working for StarVault and this isn’t Mortal Online. Trion actually listens to customers.
On side note if you have reported everything wtf are you doing here bitching?
Not trying to be an ass, just ignore them, it s easy to do. I can t count how many people I ve ignored over the years of MMO gaming, because they re idiots.
It seems that soem people may have learned from this experience and I thank everyone for the input. I only hope that Trion does indeed follow through and take care of these problems. I have posted these same questions to Trion by your responses and I very much value your feedback, all of you. Even you little flamers, your special too! No worries, I left out your names and everything, remember I value privacy!
This was necessary to show Trion that majority of people recognize a problem and do not like it. Althought some let it roll off, others suffer silently. There is no need to suffer silently friends. Even you mean troubled types, I feel your pain man its ok.
What happens from here, well, if things go as planned, then I will be back in game and having fun! If not, well theres always other things.
Yet another reason i miss EQ1 so much. By nature of how hard the game is most trolls and general idiots didn't have the mental fortitude to stick it out and make it to the higher levels. So by the time you got there you had a reasonably safe assumption that a person was a decent player, not an idiot/douche, etc.
The more they casualize MMO's and turn them into glorified single player games, the worse the communities will get.
On the flip side of the coin i know for a fact Trion follows up on people who get reported for excessively foul language or harassment. So, if nobody actually did their due dilligence and reported him/her, and this continued for weeks then start using the report function.
Outside of that, grow a thicker skin. I mean seriously. I keep OOC open in every game i've ever played and its extremely easy to ignore the chat if you want to.
Remember, only you can allow yourself to be insulted by something. Words are meaningless, its how you react to them that matter. Dictate your own actions.
"The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently."
Scarletgreen. I appreciate the situation and understand that you or others may have been hurt by another player's actions in-game. I have seen this behavior in every online game I have played over the last decade, and it's a shame to see it continue.
However, I do not feel you are taking the appropriate steps for resolving the issue.
Since you are unwilling to provide the necessary information for determining if the incident was truly against the game's rules, then there is no way for anyone on this forum to help you, including Trion support.
That said, it appears you are attempting to use this thread as a means of forcing Trion to do what you want. Although your intentions may be pure, your execution is questionable at best. I'm pretty sure it's illegal to publicly deface a company in an effort to achieve your own agenda. (I could be totally wrong about this, so please correct me if I'm wrong)
It's understandable and acceptable to raise awareness for a good cause. But what you are doing is unacceptable.

You do not need to know the particulars of the situation, that would cause retaliation against other people in the game. So whatever it is your trying to do is not going to work. If your going make a statement to the effect of pretty sure its illegal, you really need to know before you toss that around. I can save you trouble, its called free speech and anyone can write about the failings of a game company, especially on a website like this one. If you dont like it, its simple, dont read it!
Fear tactics do not work on me as well so I will save ya some typing there. All that does in the end is get your account reported on this forum.
You can view this thread however you want, but the simple fact remains, that when a person get bullied in game, the options that person has are limited to report ignore, support and this cycle continues. I have seen people break TOS constantly and nothing has been done. This thread is aimed at future consumers so they will know what to expect from a company like Trion as well as its subscriber base.
People are tired of it and not going to take it laying down anymore. As a consumer, its important to let other consumers know this is what they can expect from Rift. The more you people try to defend it and tell me get thick skinned or whatever lame excuse you can come up with to defend a failed system just shows everyone that the original argument is still very much true.
If you care to read the entire article I believe I made my point very clear, as well as stated the matter is now closed as I have recevied the necessary response I was looking for.
Further responses will now go unanswered as I have exhausted my research, your input is no longer needed.

Again, I appreciate the situation. All I'm trying to do is understand what happened. I do not play RIFT, so I have no bias toward you or Trion.
I meant no offense by my last post, and I certainly did not intend for it to come off as an attack or fear tactic. As a neutral reader, I was simply making an observation.
In your original post, you claim Trion employees are not doing their jobs because they are not taking action against bullies:
Can you provide proof that Trion employees are not doing their jobs?
Do you know if the incidents you reported were in violation of the game's TOS?
Are you certain that Trion has not pursued any action in response to your reports?
I don't condone trolling or any kind of disrecpectful behavior, but really, but I'm guessing you are one of those people who just kept talking instead of letting it go.
Believe me, I know from experience, its better to just stop talking to them before things get out of hand.

I would not assume anything, this post was to inform consumers about an action that went on and on in Rfit.
Now we have people coming out of the woodwork, either wanting to know the particulars which they have no business knowing or people just trying to start a fight. Which is ironic considering this is about bullying in games. Rift was used since it happened and happens in Rift. The controls in place are not working, we have tried those.
People see what they want to see and some choose to ignore it, while others actually take a stance against it, which is a good thing.
I went in last nite again and the same old people are still doing the same old thing. So nothing really changes, except goign to a game that does not put up with this behavior and there are plenty out there.
So save your response, the fact you people continue to berate or attempt to take away from the fact only shows this community has a lot to learn still.

Wow, that is very scary, thank you so much for posting that. Yes that is quite frightening.
A lot of trolls and kids in RIft...
Thank you again, I look forward to your response.
The end result of that particular investigation was a 30 day ban for the offending player. He got off easy. He should have been perma-banned, but still, Even CCP took a stand of all companies.
I don't know who you are and I'm not asking, but I hope after a bit of time to cool down and let the dust settle, you can return in a month or 2.

See, with those two - it's kind of obvious what's going on with that.
MMORPG.com has the following: http://www.mmorpg.com/disclaimers.cfm#conduct
So you would report the two posts based on how they violated the RoC. The moderators would look at it. They might get a warning. If there's a history, they might get a temp ban. If there's a bad history, they might get a perm ban.
It happens pretty much everywhere and pretty much everybody has the rules in place and a method for dealing with those that violate the rules...

That is an interesting concept, in what ways will willpower maturity keep me and others from being bullied?
I dont want people to feel sorry for me, in truth im not the only victim here.
If thats all it takes, this willpower maturity then please share with us how this works! This could be the answer we are looking for!
Thank you !

No one here can help you with this QQ post.
Thanks for the feedback!
[mod edit]
Very interesting!
Thank you again and take care all!

Thank you
Again, I appreciate the situation.
