So i need a place saver game...

Hey guys, I am looking for a game to hold me over till the next big thing that will entice me for the next few years... I want to try DayZ but idk, does it have a large player base? it almost seems like a game where you basically "que" into a server and start new every tiem you want to play... I feel like it does not have to much progression.. and that it is just a slaughter fest of .. oh F*** that guy has a bike.. snipe him! type stuff...
I also wanted to try realm of the mad god. but that seems like a game where if you clear it.. your done... am i right? do either of these games have potential staying power and keep me entertained for a while at least? help me guys!! also, recommendations of other games are overly welcomed!! ive been searching for months for a new game to play...

DayZ has an adequate playerbase. The "official servers" or HIVE servers are all linked together so that your gear is saved if you switch from server to sever. So your progress is saved. If you play on a "private server" or private HIVE then your belongings are only saved to that server. Things like tents and vehicles are however mutually exclusive to the server. So if you get a vehicle and hide it, it will only be available for that server.
I'll be honest I had a blast for a while with DayZ I even pulled all nighters sometimes because of that game. But there are some things that you need to know. First off its a game that just isnt very fun if you don't have another person playing with you. Second off its a full loot permadeath game. This game is very unforgiving and it doesnt make appologies for it and there can be a lot of fun to be had with your friends searching for loot and having encounters with other groups of players completely unscripted. You can't grow to attached to your belongings though. You will die, which means you will have to start over or make the run back to your body and hope that everything is still there for you. The biggest drawback I have with the game is the hacking. There are quite a few hackers that will stop at nothing to ruin the game for players which is unfortunate and ultimately why I stopped playing.
I did have some very fun times spending all night looking for parts to repair cars and helicopters, and I still remember the first time I played it was night time and I couldnt see anything (seriously its so dark at night) and I was terrifyed and I was trying to find my friends on the server. Its something that I will remember forever.
