Issue #2 - Digging Deeper delay again no ETA.

community manager tarib released this statement today.

"Issue #2 - Digging Deeper" will be coming next week

As mentioned yesterday, there was an issue found that could have led to a severe exploit that we want to fix before "Issue #2 - Digging Deeper" is deployed to the live servers. Unfortunately, it will take us some more time to make sure the issue is removed and the new version has been thoroughly tested.

We will keep on working over the weekend to fix the remaining issue and make sure that the final version will be ready for the live servers next week. As soon as all the details are available, we will announce the downtime for the update over the usual channels early next week.

We are as eager to get “Issue #2” to the live servers as much as you guys probably are. But we need to make sure that the version is ready and doesn’t contain any severe issues before it’s deployed to the Live servers. We apologize for the delay and thank you for your patience and understanding.

In the meantime, check out this preview video for Issue #2 where Lead Content Designer Joel Bylos shows what the update will have in store.

Basically what hes saying its delay and no ETA, it could come next week who knows. This is what age of conan players warned us about funcom, this happened to age of conan players when the game first released, deja vu all over again.

He said funcom is going to work on this issue over the weekend, under oslo country where funcom is located. employees gets paid more if they work weekends, and also in that country most employees dont work weekends. So this is to let you guys decide whether or not funcom is lying to its playerbase. No suprise there they did it to age of conan playerbase. This is not the first time Funcom did this to TSW, this happened in age of conan.

Looks like funcom is toying around with its tsw playerbase again.

there will be customer backlash over this im pretty positive and its going to get ugly. Think about this for a moment logically, funcom is in a dire situation and do you think they would willingly pay more money to have programmers co,me in on weekeends just to fix this supposely exploit in this issue #2?

Do you suppose it would be somehow better for them to patch in a broken issue on live servers when they know it's broken? How would it benefit them? I feel it's a sad state of affairs, but I also feel they're being honest.

Wow....great job, Funcom.  Delay number three...just in time for more subscription renewal loss.  I, for one, won't be renewing mine.  And they'll lose all the people who were looking forward to customizing their characters into actually having a chin.  (Plus all those fans of surgeons who handcuff their patients to the bed and splatter them with blood before performing fine facial detailing with a chainsaw - if you believe Funcom's issue 2 propaganda art, that is.)  This actually gets down to a crucial problem - The Secret World doesn't know what kind of game it wants to be.  Is it science fiction?  Historically-based conspiracy theory adventure?  Or is it just plain horror?  Masterful games like Dreamfall managed to blend science fiction, suspense, and horror beautifully-  but mixing these genres is a very difficult thing to do.  An admirable effort, Funcom, but in combination with unreliable product delivery, you lost me.  This third patch delay is the final straw.

let me get this right..your un-subbing because they didnt put the patch in with the exploit..or are you just impatient.learn to mellow out man.if you were interested in playing the  game you would carry on subbing ..its obvious your not...move on .

They fired like half the company...what the hell else do you expect?  Blame the delay on all the children that didn't buy the game as they only like cartoon fantasy games designed for teens.

While I don't play TSW I did play the hell out of AoC during the first 18 months.  These sort of things just hack away over time at the playerbase contentment.  It's good that they find the issues, but for their sake they need to limit these issues better because they have a history of stacking them consistently.  Even if their games are or can be good they can still 'kill' them with poor management.  It's sad when that happens.

You can blame the players for not buying TSW all you want, but in the business world, this is how things work. Funcom arent in the health & social welfare sector (and even that sector is taking a cut in Norway), but are subject to the free market. Notice the world: Free. We are Free to buy it, or to not buy it.

Obviously too few people feel TSW is worth spending money on. That is not the fault of the public, but of Funcom. Its probably not a fault that can be pinned to 1 problem. There surely are many factors involved. However, alot of gamers warned about releasing TSW too early. In my personal opinion, this is one of the major reasons why TSW is failing now. Its quite unfortunate that this failure might be the end of Funcom.

If you gave the another 6 months what would you of asked of them?

The product you brought was planned that way for YEARS

Next week is an ETA.  So not sure how one can say it doesn't have one.

I'm not happy its delayed (at all), but there is cearly one stated.

Nitth, its good business planning to actually *have* a plan, including a plan for release. However, too often have I seen that when something is in the hands of analysts and economists, the plan doesnt necessairly change even though the project has. The deadline was probably set a long time ago, but spreadsheets are lousy at providing info on quality.

TSW is obviously not all quality. In fact, it seems to have so many potholes that most people find a different road to travel all together. If it wasnt so, Funcom and TSW wouldnt be in this situation.

Wrong! Most of development moved to Canada long ago. TSW's dev team is in Canada. Cheap labor with great tax benefits from the Canadian government.

Sadly things are looking a bit grim for funcom.

I like the game, I just like another game better. If tsw had come out last year i would have probably played it longer, would have been best mmo in 2011

I enjoyed large portions of it (Combat/Skill system, Mission depth/detail)

There's just not alot of it, and while it's not as bad as the drop off after escaping Tortage it's just as evident. Real shame they've already dropped the ball, picked it up and deflated it with a nail.

I enjoyed the two weeks of content there was for me, but it's not something I could grind/play at for years like even EQ2, EQ1, WOW or even Anarchy Online. Hell AOC took longer to burn me out.

they made a mistake of trying to do monthly update, only trion worlds kept its promise of monthly update on its game rift.

i think funcom dug its own grave like age of conan.

Funcom generally has some great ideas and visions, sadly their programming department has never seemed to be as strong as their visual side. Hopefully they will get ontop of this for next months update. I enjoyed my time in TSW but once you are finished with the story, there did not feel to be much to do beyond that.

Second delay for the second update. At least this update has some real promising additions. I personally would much rather them getting the issues sorted first though. I think they should be looking to do something special when the gw2, mop hype starts to die a bit.

It's the fourth delay, not second.

First it was supposed to come out in August, then 9/11, then 9/12, then 9/13 and now finally "next week".

In this instance they really needed to step up and release on time. Basically to inspire people to have faith in the game and show they as a company have changed.   The longer this drags on the worse it is for the game.   Because it's just showing what an impact all the various factors is having on Funcom at the moment.  Half the staff gone, lead designer among them, ex CEO facing insider trading allegations.  They needed to say with this update, all this periphery stuff is happening but we are not phased and it will not impact on the game.   Instead all you get the sense of, from Taribs rhetoric, is panic stations.

They would of been better to cancel the update  - they had good enough reason with half the staff gone. Then state they will publish a new release schedule and decide on the frequency of the updates, once the reorganisation was settled.   People would have been miffed but understanding I would have thought.  This stringing people along and failing to meet expectations is a more damaging route to follow.
