So now that we're almost a month in, I was curious to see how people feel about ANet's decision to go with teleporting instead of mounts / flight paths.
For now, I really like it for the simple fact that it saves me time. I have a limited playing schedule so the more I can focus on actually playing the better.
However, it really does make the world feel small and definitely has a negative affect on immersion IMO.

I want both, teleports are nice for sure and way better then flightpaths.
But the world is freaking hugh, i need a mount. I use that runspeed offhand on all my toons and i hate that offhand weapon. I just have it for the speed. Running without that one aint even an option.
Didt vote as non of em are good options
Since the lore of Tyria does not have flight paths - except for the Charr - it makes no sense. This is not WoW. Teleports and Asuran Gates are the mode of transport in this game.
This has been discussed before.
DAOC had travel post mounts where you could jump off from the horse anytime
EQ2 also used a similar system - w horses and flying mounts, but can jump off midtransit
WOWs travel system i never liked
take a transport and you are *stuck* until the journey finishes (unless its a boat / airship)
players having their own mounts? im neutral on it

I really wish they had mounts, Riding though the plains on a steed is an awesome immersion thing.

Lore can be extended to allow it.
I'd like a "teleport + mounts" option, thanks...
This said, flight paths are amazing the first times you use them. Then it gets old, very old. Basically waste of developer time because nobody looks at them anymore.

Are you talkin' to me? Are you talkin' to me?

The gates make coordinating with friends much easier and I too have a very limited play time.
However I have no problem with mounts. Flight just doesn't seem to work here though.
If rightly done yes. But none combat mount sucks. And I also want to see pikes and other anti horsemen weapons.
Both please.
I always loved mounts both for immersion and cosmetic purposes.
I desperately want mounts.
Then you have to also change the lore in GW1 - remember GW2 is 250 yrs AFTER GW1, that is not a long time.
I miss DAoC
To me mounts do not create immersion. Many times they break immersion, especially when you have a player that rides through and aggroes everything w/o any thought to other players.
I can see mounts for looks but not in game for travel. It is too easy to use the teleport system. Heck, you can even teleport to underwater areas in the game.
Really?
We didn't have flight paths in the real world 250 years ago.
A-net should add mounts, and make em cash shop only. They could make little magic flying carpet mounts that look like one hundred dollar/one hundred euro bills.

Who knows, they can create a disease/lack of resources/economical change/cultural change etc. to justify the introduction of flight paths.
Oderint, dum metuant.
Loving teleportation. It's one of the rewards of exploring. It also makes it a lot easier to join/help others.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

I agree for the same reasons. Flight paths would be the same as Teleport, more or less. I really wish they add mounts or a permanent speed buff that works out of combat, independent of weapons.

There are permanent speed buffs. I was looking at a superior rune... I think it was Superior Rune of the Wanderer... hang on, let me go look...
Ah, sorry... Superior Rune of the Traveler. That comes with a 5% movement speed boost. I don't know if there are other movement speed boosts though, but I'd honestly be surprised if that was the only one. Any foods give a movement speed boost?
