When you hit 80 you will notice your experience bar continues to fill up. Once it fills it will refresh (you still stay at 80) and you get a skill point. This goes on ad infinitum so long as you do stuff that would normally earn you experience.
So no, there is no maximum.
I had no idea that we got skill points for those dings.
What items are purchasable for SP?
You can buy items to stick in the mystic forge. For example, there is one item you will need an item that costs 200 skill points to craft legendary.
The NPC is next to the mystic forge.
Man I am sometimes reminded why I come to these forums during my breaks by posts like these. I had no idea there were items I could buy with SP's.
I just attached the link to Miyani a vendor next to the mystic forge.
Also, if you were fast on the butter train, you can actually craft a portable mystic forge. There are two types, a consumable type and a perminant type.
Originally posted by FrodoFragins Thanks for the info on the skill points and mystic forge. I didn't get far in crafting and heard each legendary costs a lot of gold + other stuff.
No problem. And oh yeah, they are every bit legendary. You have to do a crap ton to get em but, I have to admit, if each does what they say they will do, then it may be worth it.
For example, I believe the Legendary Hammer makes you armor look like the liquid terminator guy and drips metal. And I believe the unicorn bow shoots rainbow trails. Not my style but I am sure some will love it.
Originally posted by adam_nox You can't level off of crafting unless someone is feeding you mats or you spend real money. The dungeons aren't fun, WvW is owned by 80s and the xp is crap if you are dying not to mention you'll be drained of money on repairs, sPvP I have always despised in all mmos that have it. DE's get old, hearts are lame. I want to get to 80 for a more balanced WvW experience, but I may not make it there. Not that this is topic relevant, but really neither was yours, but I had to reply.
So you're saying you can't level because you don't want to play. Crafting is easy to level on, you just gather the mats as you go around the game, gosh! And sPvP isn't your thing, oh I get it, that makes sense since you said you want to get to 80 for WvW, you're the type that wants a gear grind (which doesn't really exist in this game).
On my server, often the true 80's will be the ones buying siege gear as they have the coin.
If you do not have the coin for it, go do the jumping puzzles. I get 2 siege blueprints from each chest I have done so far in the WvW borderlands. I got a treb, an arrow cart, and 2 rams. Someone else said they got a Golem from it.

That's some good advice, but to be honest.... when I log into wuv wuv there is so much action that taking a detour for a puzzle or even the vistas quickly becomes the last thing on my mind.
Originally posted by adam_nox any way to get back skill points? spent one on a skill I didn't mean to, and now it will take 10 more levels to get a final tier elite skill.
No there is not. The system design is to earn more. Given the number of SP in the various zones including lower level zones you should never have to wait ten levels if you do some skill challenge hunting.

This will also depend on server/matchup some servers actively camp the jump puzzles with seige equipment. But the 3 BL puzzle chests are a rather good source of badges of honor. And if you are like me and seem to not get them much from kills even with 500+ WvW kills then getting from there is nice. Each hcest ususally give 6 badges and maybe 8 or so from EB puzzle.
I just got the skill point achievement for 100 earlier today, and i've only completed about 4 zones. I'm not sure if they count towards all characters though.

There may be more, not sure.
Wiki, dang you!
You can type /wiki Something; in the game to open the Wiki in a browser to view questions. like /wiki Burst Skill
Anyway (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Forge); the other mystic forge is in the Mists.
