I wouldn't say Guild Wars 2 failed, but it failed to keep me wanting to play for the long haul. It has great graphics, pretty good PvE but that's about it. longivity is the issue for me and my family who also quit. I'm just going to wait until a sandbox mmorpg comes out. I already uninstalled Guild Wars 2.
I'll probably try out Darkfall Unholy Wars, Archeage if it ever comes out and Final Fantasy Reborn once that re-releases. If none of those I mentioned interest me, I'll probably retire and stop playing mmorpg's due to lack of innovation in the gaming industry these days.
I'm going to say no GW2 is not Fail, but it's not the epic great game fans say it is either. I just hope that over time they make some changes, then it might be something i go back and look at.
on a personal level this game wasnt for me. but im not big on themparks anyways.
Even F2P titles like GW2 can fail, if no one is playing them anymore and no one purchases stuff in their cash shop.
There is a bunch of F2P MMOs which got shut down at some point
Please swap your F and B buttons on your keyboard.
Why? I´m not getting framed by a marketing heist and someone replacing "F" with "B" and call it a new model. GW2 is F2P with a cash shop, end of story.

Well I'm glad i'm not the only person who sees this.
Really, you can buy LotRO starter pack with all the content for a similar price to GW2 - leaving you with just a cashshop of fluff & storage upgrades, just like GW2 - but no-one would dreamn of calling LotRO a B2P game.
I've posted a few things here about GW2, nothing bad and nothing great, which is pretty much how i feel about this game. [mod edit] GW2 is too easy to level, way to setup for the casual players, will not hold population do to this. The PVP is kind of funny because it doesn't mean anything really, can't wear what gear i want when i want to? what is this? I just hate games that force you to do things, like oh you want to pvp? here your level 80 now, oh you want to wear your pvp gear in the world? are you crazy? you can't do that, you have to wear your pve gear there, it's just silly.
People need to realize that the days of level grinding at an excruciatingly slow pace are long gone, and they're not coming back save for niche titles.

"B2P" is just marketing.
I've never played LotRO but AFAIK you can't access all LotRO features without a VIP sub. Hence LotRO isn't a B2P. D3 and GW2 are B2P.
I don't say B2P is good (in fact my experience with D3 and GW2 shows that B2P is worse than both P2P and F2P) but certainly B2P isn't just marketing. In an F2P game you (obviously) can just d/l the client and play. In a B2P game you (obviously) can't. And since B2P model seems to be very unfriendly towards open betas you have to make your decision to buy the game blindly. It's a huge difference.
Simply put: B2P is the most scam-friendly MMO business model to date. D3 can be used as a classic example of a marketing scam. If it were up to me, ActiBlizz managemet would end up in jail for fraud. GW2 isn't that bad so far but sill the 9/17 patch was very disappointing.
MMORPG genre is dead. Long live MMOCS (Massively Multiplayer Online Cash Shop).
Originally posted by cronius77 guild wars 2 will not fail , you can tell by the fact they made a ton of money already yet refuse to hire more Customer service and have tried to migrate everyone coming into the game into as few servers as possible as they say "to keep high population and fun" , its just to keep costs down , its common sense. But will they be the wow killer or competetive with wow? no way in hell , people are already leaving because there is nothing to do at 80 but from what you did at level 20 30 40 50 etc. They will sell boxes for years to come just like GW1 did and might even eventually pass 10 mil sales for box copies over the years , but they will never have that many concurrent users , there just isnt enough meat and way to much potato in GW2.
1. They have more CSRs and significantly increased the CSR staff since launch. They've said so. In fact, part of the reason they suspended sales was because they couldn't keep up with the hiring and training of CSRs. And we see it in the hacked-account turn-around -- it's gone from three days to mere hours and pretty much all other complaints are being resolved quickly as the whole kerfluffle about CSR not handling things is pretty much dead, dead, dead until you brought up that dead horse. That you are ignorant of the fact and continue to harp the same old whine is a load of manure. Although, at least manure makes good compost...
2. This really cracks me up. People like you ripped the hell out of BioWare for opening too many servers. Then ripped them again when they do a 10-to1 server merger. ANet does the smart thing, knowing that after the shiny-penny wears a bit people will play less so they don't foolishly open tons of new servers. Instead, they keep the list tight and use an over-flow system and then people like you rip them for that. It's like you've set the rules of criticism up as "I win, you lose" and anything you do, even if I've championed the exact solution before, is now wrong.
3. It's an MMO, not a spouse. Habituation is normal. People leaving is normal. Some will leave sooner, others will leave later. Power-gamers being the worst as they come into every MMO, ignore 80% of it to get to 'end game' then whine.
But here's a clue that most of those who content-complain never get --- MMOs are ultimately about the social experience and the social ties that bind us -- not the content experience. If you think about it, you'll understand it. But I won't hold my breath. People who whine about content generally don't get the social aspects of MMOs and the long-term ties that bind. I've got two sets of MMO friends that I have had for 5 and 3 years respectively. And we're more than just MMO friends. We have tons of other interests we discuss from our garden fish ponds to computers to to our steam groups (both sets have Steam groups) to DnD to CivV tournaments. The groups are even multi-generational.

when WoW came out there was no millions of mmorpg gamers around,no there wasnt,i dont think that WoW is RPG but still.
Now when there is hundreds of millions of so called mmorpg gamers and GW2 cant even make 5% of them interested,i think its a fail.
They tried to make something super casual, but that is their biggest mistake.
I dont understand what they tried, game for people who play 1 second per day,who have 5 childrens and 6 girlfriends will love it ? <-- TV-commercial about that could be really interesting.

Where the KITTEN did you find those numbers? 5% isn't even interested in the game?
This post has FAIL written all over it. Useless thread is useless.
Fact is that the servers is still FULL & HIGH in population. We know you WOW kiddies are sadface because of the lack of endgame. Move on already....

Still making no sense. GW2 has alot of servers on both US and EU and not a single server are below HIGH or FULL population.
SWTOR might have seen better success had it been B2P from the get go. Who knows. You can't compare a sub based game failure with B2P. And SWTOR has been out alot longer than GW2, give it time. By the time GW2 is 6-8 months old it will likely have an expansion and content updates.

Assuming hundreds of millions equals two hundred million (the minimum hundreds can be) 5% of that is 10m. Do you realise you are saying any game that doesn't get 10m is a fail?

When WoW was released it expanded MMORPG player base,(i still think that most of them are not rpg gamers, but *still)
Now GW2 cant even make those people interested or do the same that WoW did, bring new blood to the genre, well if we count these who play 1 second per day, then they changed something, but is that a good thing ?

if you don't have a number of how many players bought the game and how many still play the game. Your assumpton is meaningles.
I don't even get what you mean by people are not rpg gamers. I started playing RPG games since 80s and the formula is pretty much the same. You have a character, you kill monsters for xp. You level up. You advance through game by doing so. What is so different from the current game to the old game in the RPG category ?
