There are not many games that can hang with WoW and Rift improves on what wow does in quite a few areas.
Sure its like the rest of the mmorpg that came after WoW with server merges but I dont think the game itself had anything to do with it. It's more that people have long standing attachments to WoW so they tend to go back.
