I see this lot around different articles and forums. WoW has around 9 million subs. A lol of information around the net mention that this is thanks to millions of gold farmers in the game. Is this possible? Maybe. If I log in and you see players chat announcing their gold services so i imagine a lot of employees playing the game for gold farming. What do you think?
I just want to get an idea of you opinions, so I’m not trolling or saying anything bad about the game. Just want to understand if you believe if this is true and why or believe is false and why.
If you decide to post and discuss your beliefs can you provide some evidence to back it up, of course there is no obligation. Just wanted to read from other sources besides the ones I’m been reading right now.
Thank You

Gold farmers go where there are people to sell gold to, so there is no reason to think that WoW has much higher ratio of gold farmers to non-gold farmers than any other game. If the gold farmers were 50% or even 25% of the population at any point, they wouldn't hang around for very long because they would go out of business from not having enough customers.
When it comes to the question of Western vs Asian accounts, I believe back when Blizzard announced 12 mil active accounts they also mentioned that 5.5 mil were on EU/US servers. That's just over 45% and I'm not aware of anything that would cause that ratio to have changed since then.
Amount of subs from gold farmers is only a fraction of the total, only Blizz could tell you what they estimate.
