I haven't really heard anything about solo player housing. I have heard about clans and such creating home bases of operation. THough, I do imagine that if it isn't in the game, you could take up residence in some house or building somewhere and call it your own. The problem with that is that we won't be playing on an EVE style server. So what you call your house on one server, could potentially be a bandits HQ on another. Probably not so good for you, eh? Sure, you could stick to one server if you wanted, I suppose. But, this is going to be more like joining a CoD or BF server rather than logging into a server in say, WoW. There will be a max of 250 players per server I believe, instead of several thousands. So while your belongings and progression are persistent, there will be many 'worlds' that are just copies of each other for you to choose from and all of them will have different players and such.

Basically your clan can pay a few $ each month to rent a small server to host your clan base, its instanced so no one else will have access other than the people you invite. Its a place to store weapons and grow food and so on...
Sadly because its not a true MMO, the game runs on seperate servers with maybe upto 250 palyers on (but they have not tested that yet from what the devs have said), This was the only way they could handle player housing because the game is not running on one big persistant server, Very much like DayZ.
So yes there will be housing but it wont realyl be part of the main game.
It would be interesting if they allowed clan wars. Setting up invasion times of the enemy clans home base. If you win, you don't exactly take control of their base, but perhaps you gain access to everything inside (Which would likely be moved pre-invasion to avoid it) and to the loot of everyone killed. Also, if you win, there could be some bonuses gained. I haven't played the game yet, but those bonuses would be something that the players want. Obviously.
Or. I would be cool with a large map dedicated solely to conquest. Perhaps there would be a lot of pre-set locations that allowed you to repair and rebuild a base. Adding to it barbed wire, barricades, turret guns if you have them, traps, secret exits and such. You could fly your clan banner and defend it against all comers. You gain some sort of resources based on location for your clan. For instance, if you are protecting what was a munitions factory, perhaps you gain ammo over a period of time that you control it. Maybe you are protecting a farm or some water purification building, gaining food and water over time. Stuff like that. And of course, there would still be plenty of zombies knocking on your doors.
It's a shame that technology hasn't caught up to our ideas yet. All of this stuff would work on a persistant world, like a MMO.
