Wow, im desperate to upgrade my pc just to play this game, i ran the trial on my Radeon 9600 pro 128mb, 640mb of ram, 1.3 MHz machine and it was smooth on High performance i just dont wanna buy the game and realise that i can hardly play when there are more people around, what do you guys think? because sadly it will be a while until i have the chance to upgrade and this has made me want to play it even more.

Oh well, here's a rehash.
I got a P4 2.6, 1 Gig, Geforce FX 5200. The game looks like CRAP. I need to run it at near lowest settings to keep it smooth. Everyone ends up looking like plastic army men. Horrible spell effects, etc. etc.
Is my video card that bad? Any tech heads out there got a suggestion for a NVIDIA replacement card? I refuse to use ATI products. I had to spend hundreds back in the late 90's replacing/repairing ATI cards. They're never getting another penny from me. I heard that I can't go too high on a videocard because it will bottle neck on the P4 2.6 processor. Is this true? I don't want to spend 300+ dollars on something that will only show a mediocre increase in perfomance either.
Any help would be appreciated, I stopped following the tech side of things years ago.
Yeah Loe it's your card. I had that exact one and the game looked pretty damn bad. I assume you have an AGP slot so I would say eithier a 5950 or 6600 gt. it would help to know your price range. Like I said though that card makes the game look awful.
Both cards are under the $300 and they would run fine with a 2.6. If you had a 6800 that's when you may see some bottlenecking.

the 5200 was actually a very very bad card. A Geforce 4600 TI is actually better than the 5200

Thanks for the info. I would probaly go with the better of the two cards. My price range is about 300 max. If I remember correctly I think I skimped on the video card in exchange for the ram and processor.... This was when I needed a new computer to play SWG....

Yeah loe go with the 6600gt. It's around $250 (or under) and is an awesome card.
So can anyone tell me if its even worth me buying the full game with my spec:
Pentium 4 1.3MHz(ouch i know)
640mb Ram
Radeon 9600 pro 128mb
what do you guys think should i get it or would i not be able to run the game atleast on high performance/very high performance when there are a load of people around. Once i eventually upgrade im looking at 2gig of ram and an amd 64 but thats a while off yet. Please give me your opinions on this.

You seem ok . I have a slightly better system with p4 1.8mh, GeForce FX5200 (or 5600 cant remember now) with 256 vid memory and 1gig RAM. And EQ2 actualy ran nicer then WoW in a big city when lots of players hang around. Although to be fair I wasnt in a place where hundreds of EQ2 players hang around so its hard to say... Regardless, you should be fine playing EQ2 on moderate settings, in big cities where lots of people hang around you probly will experience some FPS lag.
In responce to Enigma's post... WOW, those shots are SWEEEEEEET. I was aways amazed by EQ2 textures and world graphics, nothin so far has come this close to realism. I dont know how would devs who made beautifull textures and world graphics would screw so much with character models... it probably was a different dev team or something.

Last screenshot is a funny story behind it....I am a Templar that had teamed up with a group of ShadowKnights and Inquisitors......made for a very interesting roleplaying experience

The various zones vary widely in terms of framerate. Playing the game on extreme quality, I get about 15-20 FPS running around in Antonica but close to 0 FPS in Blackburrow in the open sky area. Get into the city and my FPS drops to about 7-8 on extreme quality. This is running on a 6800 GT OC, my previous card was a Radeon 9600 XT, I played on high performance normally, on extreme performance when I was in Blackburrow.
In Stormhold my FPS was 20-23

I lag out in Sewers of the Thieves Way. I dunno why, there doesnt seem to be much going on there. In the city itself im fine, dunno my FPS but movement doesnt feel "sticky".

Man those latest shots are sweet. And I was pretty happy with what my system was looking like ... but now, lol.
The look of metal in this game amazes me.
That framerate is pretty pathetic. I personally could not take a framerate that low. >.< They look great, though.
