Someone out there needs to get off their butts and develop and release a game based on frank herbert's dune series. With all the houses in the game and the variety of classes the game could really rock.
Dune might be an MMO that could have some RT strategy in it. A player, or a guild could build and maintain their own spice factory. The more money you made from it, the more defenses and spice processors you could buy.
Other guilds could capture or destroy your spice factory.
I would start it in the time period of the Scattering (maybe during the great famine after the death of the God Emperor) and make it cross between Eve and Starflight.
Cloaked ships spreading out into infinate worlds developing new technology. Archaic power brokers attempting to keep control. Everyone else... starving.

I think Dune is one of those IPs that really don't translate well into video games unless it's just a retelling, let alone multiplayer games. It's about politics, ecology and a master plan to save the human race in the long run, neither of which really translate into good moment-to-moment gameplay. Hell, the fact we got good to great RTS games based on it is kind of miraculous if you ask me.
Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.
Terrible IP for an mmo. There just isn't anything you can do in a way that would be engaging to an mmo... and this is from an avid Dune fan.
Unless it was a spice snorting simulator.
Yet, somehow this works for Eve. A simple game with a lot of clicking. I tend to believe that Eve is derived from Dune as it revolves around endless mining and corporate / house espionage.
I would rather see an Mmorpg based on Firefly or the Old west though. Firefly being almost the best of both worlds.

I'd buy that for a dollar.
I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.
Wouldn't be very profitable since there can be only one.

Why pick such a bland setting for an MMO when you could have gone... Hey! Riverworld!
/edit/
Philip José Farmer's Riverworld.
Better to be crazy, provided you know what sane is...

I agree with this.
Dune will not translate into an MMO. Also, the whole concept of Dune revolves around a "Chosen One" How does that translate into the Chosen Million?
If it will be a good game I will play. I like Dune IP. If it will be another bad pointless 'fight fight fight' mmorpg I will pass.
