I enjoy Rift a lot . I think its one of the best mmos released in the last few years and I think Trion as a company are proberbly the best in the buisness at the moment . I'm enjoying GW2 at the moment but i also like games where theres PVP while leveling in most areas of the game world ( apart from starter areas ) . Storm Legion has a lot of featuers I'm interested in . The thing is I logged in under a lite account last night and had a look at the server statuses .Only two EU servers were at medium ( one english one french ) .This was at peak time . My concern is that unless this brings back significant numbers of players if I buy the expansiosn I'll be stuck in a dead game . Which is not much fun in an mmo .

i think the offer is good until expansion launch

wait until the free weekend Nov 7th  - then decide if game looks lively enough

That won't give a good idea about the population, since it's a free weekend :).

agree but it will show how many people have interest in RIFT

expansions bring back people and many players do not preorder expansions

True. A lot of people are hooked up into GW2 and Pandaria (WoW) at the moment.

When the RIFT expansion launches, people will return to check it out. So population will undoubtly increase again.

I am still on the fence, but that might change in november. :-P

Keep in mind a lot of the end game content is instanced.

Though outside of end game it is pretty dead.

I think what I may do is hang fire and wait untill they have thier lower annual subscription offer after Christmas by then it will be clear how successful Storm Legion is . For me its too big an if as to whether enough players will return to make it worth it.

I hope it does well .

It is right before huge expansion, and right after GW2 & Pandas release.   It is kinda normal that population is low atm.

Real test about population will come arond 2 + months after expansion release.

Just resubbed myself, but there are still enough people about to run instances and tackle rifts.  At lower levels peole are sparse, but hihger levels it's fine.  I know many who are coming back for the expansion.

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

I think your spot on . I kind of hope they have the same annual subscription offer with the included expansion again after Christmas or early in the new year . I think that will be the time to decide .

I think I'll invest in the WarZ instead to keep me occupied till then as its only 12 pounds at the moment .

Granted it's been a few months since I played Rift, but I know they had about 4-5 servers that were booming with people.

My main was on low pop server. I decided to see how it was on a high pop server and Meridian was packed with people and I actually saw people leveling in the lowbie zones as well.

http://www.riftstatus.net/  < This is a nice little site that has good history on how the servers are doing. It looks like the numbers have taken a hit since GW2 and MoP came out, but I bet the expansion will bring the numbers back up again.

If you like world PvP I believe Seastone was the highest population PvP server from what I read on the official forums.

I run on Seastone and the population is pretty respectable.  When I got into the beta I was like DAMN this place is JUMPING!  It was like hanging out at the AH in WoW, but everywhere.  I played Rift for a while and thought wow, what a well polished game, but then wandered off because it just didn't grab me.  When I came back after jumping from MMO to MMO I was much more impressed with what Trion has put together.  A TON of people are going to come back for the expansion and it looks really promising.  I just hope it is enough to hold on to a large percentage of those players.

The new housing is frigging amazing.  I don't know how much I can say without getting in trouble, but I'll just say leave it to Trion to take something mundane like housing and go above and beyond what is necessary.

    Currently playing:
    Rift
    Played:
SWToR, Aion,EQ, Dark Age of Camelot
    World of Warcraft, AoC

When update 1.9 came the servers were high and full. So usually when BIG updates come the game is packed but besides that the servers are normal.

Depends mostly on the server. It is quite dead though, as such when an expansion is announced. So many people love to quit and wait for expansions, a habit that good old WoW really began. Expect a lot more to come back for the expansion, particularly since by then a lot of people will have made their minds up about MoP.

Don't. It seem like fast production made to use DayZ follow up, which would not be anything wrong, if they would not lie that they are working on it for years. This is just a quick paid mod on War Inc shooter that they are wanna to capitalize fast.

I play on Faeblight and it is active pretty much always. Last tuesday around noon, i did a /who for each zone. About 3 areas had under ten each and the rest had upwards of 30-50+.

My main is defiant. I actually havent made a guardian yet heh. But meridian is hopping most of the time. Mayne ill see you at an event one of these days.
