for anyone really wanting to try this game again id def wait until they drop the expansion as of today the class overhaul patch just about annoyed or pissed off majority of the player base . They basically redid completely all the orginal souls in the game and it was rushed through , typical trion and there is huge balance issues and classes that cannot even survive 2 or 3 mobs hitting them at once now. Id suggest giving the game some time before coming back during what i imagine to be a full week or two of frustration.

Bugged things ,Valor is bugged and being nurfed tomorrow , clerics cloro unkillable as healing is bugged. Warriors doing 7k DPS now all bugged out with everyone else around 5-6k . Rogues lost all surviviability builds for melee , so no more RS/AS/BD aoe grinding anymore , same with warriors like reaver/rift farming all gone. I can keep going but just go look at the general forums on their site to see for yourself.

Chloromancer unkillable? Common.... Its very squishy . Its a support spec so if a chloro has a good group protecting him is going to be harder to kill. Soloable is VERY easy to kill.

Overall I like the changes. Only complaints I heard are about warrior rdps being nerfed.

You know that you can mix many specs right? I am sure of it. Try many combinations and find the game is not as unbalanced as it seems.

For example, people complaints about rogue. But rogues in rift are not the typicall ones. People forget they are rdps rogues like marksman, ranger (my main level 50) and healer rogues as well. They hit hard , very hard.

What I like most about rift´s pvp is that every class can kill another, you always get surprises in pvp. And now with the addittion of 4 new souls game will be funnier than ever.

Rift its not a perfect game but dont forget it is a PVE game with some pvp attached.

you missed the entire point of the post .......this is not bashing its warning people to wait a couple of weeks until they get everything balanced out . You didnt pvp today you can tell already and if you are currently playing you can go read the myriad of posts on the Offical forums and class forums and see for yourself. Do a conquest with about 4 or 5 healers right now together or  a warfront with just 2 healers. I know this ive been running warfronts and conquests all night on my bard spec , i have yet to die all night .  Also go read the dev posts there , even they say they have to fix a ton of stuff and are asking for parser numbers in the class forums. Again people on the fence waiting for SL will be frustrated coming back right this second so warning them here is good , so they just do not leave frustrated with the bugs and balance issues when giving Trion a week or two to balance it all out is the best thing.

I really liked it for the pvp at first, it was fun, the souls gave a huge range of possibilities and it felt competitiive and evenly balanced between player skill....then I reached...think it was 30 and got shifted into the next tier where no undergeared player stood a snowballs chance in hell. It's not that I just don't like getting killed by uber geared players and rage-quit...I don't even like being invincible against under-geared players either. It's what ruined wow pvp too. That's why GW2 is a breath of fresh air, ultimate balance ftw if you're crap you only have yourself or your pc to blame, it's not perfect for sure but surely everyone agrees that skill and strategy in pvp should trump the latest tier of purple gear?

    Agree.

Right now its not a question of classes or souls, it is (my opinion)   a  matter of gear.

Like I said before I have a level 50 rogue. I didnt play any pvp with it. But I had some chars in their 20s that I wanted to level up before expansion comes out.

Low level pvp is totally out of control and broken. Some warfronts are nice to play but most are full with twinks overgeared that wipe you in a sec.

Add to this that more than often warfronts are plagued with more people playing one side than the other. For example last warfront I did was in the black garden and we were 2 guardians versus 4 defiants (2 of them twinks) usually more people comes later in the warfront to level it but the damage is already done and you lose.

I remenber too the first months of rift and can assure you that pvp was really fun without so many twinks.

At least you get some valor points even if you lose so its not that bad afterall ( in many other games you get zero rewards)

You sir are NOT playing rift right now and havent in months and im sorry Im calling you out on it . You are spreading so much FALSE information here you should be warned and banned for it . I figured as much from your post before this one about warriors ranged damage being nerfed when in fact it wasnt , it was made stronger yestarday. But seriously this is totally FALSE information you are spouting out.

First and Foremost Guardians and Defiants are NOT filled with twinks at ALL. There is no more turning off experience and its been that way since 1.9 when they introduced mentoring. Second if you are dying to better players in a warfront now its not the excuse of gear until you are level 50 and as soon as you hit 50 you are bolstered to prestiage rank 35 so you can get gear from warfronts and conquest so gear isnt the issue anymore. Valor is now nerfed across the board as of this mornings patch notes as well so its back to team based pvp. Also there is NO imbalance issues in warfronts at any level . If a warfront starts there is equal amounts of players or mercs from the other side are placed on your team. Not sure how long its been since you played but you can tell its not been for months for sure man.

Also the guild wars 2 comments , I also play Guild wars 2 and ive parked it and wont even log in with how bad the world vs world is. At least Rifts conquest has actually pvp and not Door banging or playing with siege weapons avoiding actual pvp. I even run a gank guild in world vs world and it would consist of the 8 of us running to this doylak camp ganking some players along the way and then getting ganked and steam rolled by about 30 or 40 zergers . So to say guild wars 2 pvp is even in Rifts league or WoWs league either is silly at best as playing doorhammer and siegeville is NOT PVP.

Yeah, looks like the usual stuff we see after a big game changer. Some gripes are legit, like having souls re designed to synergize with the new souls and not having those abilities yet. But some are just "Sky is falling" complaints because someone now has to relearn their class and opens a thread before looking to see if the problem is known and being addressed. But in essence, I'll agree with your statement. It's not a bad idea to wait at this point in the game. Even I haven't purchased the expansion yet. Not getting on that wagon until I know where it's going.

yeah i did a couple of warfronts today so far to see the valor changes and it seems like they fixed some of that a bit , but healers are still really strong stacked up , not really in single form just stacking them. I personally think the overall healing nerfs on every soul but cleric and cloro is WAY to strong though . Rift stalkers losing rift scavanger , assassin poisons leeching being nerfed also made soloing on any melee rogue just not fun anymore and i hope all the people complaining will be taken to heart. Also I was really looking forward to reaver on the warrior and it sounded so great on paper , but man their self healing took a nose dive and power of the masses nerf made tanking on them pointless again which sucks as i love the entire reaver/death knight/shadowknight style classes as tanks.

Overall the patch though is great to adding some nice tweaks to the game , but i do not want to group everytime on a warrior or rogue to do dailys like sealing rifts or doing a couple of elites as its just not what everyone wants to have to bother with doing at this maturity of the game. I just wish they would personally add in more self healing back to rogue and warrior, though pally did get some nice self heals its still just not enough to sustain the small group quests unless you just have HK gear on which i just am wearing expert and drowned halls gear.

PvP is garbage.  Leveling is easy.  Rifts are boring and repetitive.  Thanks for the recommendation though.

played it in beta, after release and some weeks ago when they offered that free play time.

all i saw was a WoW clone, offering nothing new but a somehow open class system, not for real tho.

the OP'ness was more than obvious, and your choices start to get smaller and smaller as soon you see what some specs are able to do.

uh and content? shesh. right ^^ how many inis does it have now? 5 or sth? #

dont get me wrong, you can test it as often you want, i dont see anything that would make me play tho, especially with such a screwed pvp system

I think the pvp system has gotten a ton better and thats coming from a pure hater and you can check my post history about this game and see for yourself. I HATED rift pvp hardcore until conquest and now that level 50 pvp is on a more even playing field the fights are starting to feel like old DAOC 8 vs 8 and WAR. But see in a warfront you wont get that feeling but in conquest you do now and they have a couple more conquest maps on the way with storm legion so i just have this feeling that rift will be getting a new conquest map similiar to old DAOC , to bad it took guild wars 2 to make them realize that they needed to adapt to survive.

But yeah valor gear is there for a reason man , think of it this way if gear was normalized in rift then you would have the hardcore raiders walking into pvp 3 shotting normal avid pvpers . Thats why it is seperate and trust me ive had a cleric guild member 3 shot me in full HK gear when i was not in my pvp gear because the stats for raiding are so huge.

Also crowd control changes rock hardcore for pvp now since yestarday , like old DAOC exactly. If you get snared , stunned mezed etc for however long it lasts even if you use a break ability to get rid of it , you get an immunity timer to it so they cant spam it on you . Like I said if you enjoy pvp id say give it a free trial again and see for yourself what im talking about. As ive been an avid hater for the last year .

comparing things to daoc, when you never played daoc is never a good idea ^^

"like 'old daoc'" ... seriously? you know how often i heard that lately from people who actually claimed daoc had open world pvp?

my main prob about the rift pvp has nothing to do with daoc,  all about OP souls and mendatories. also the pvp they gave us on release was plain and simply boring. i didnt see ANYTHING innovative in that game - which basically is no prob, but running around screaming how cool, new und unexpected the new game is and then delivering wow version 23b is sth i am allergic to.

basically rift is a solid game tho, but i seriously dont see any reason to buy a wow clone, i already own wow ^^

I may jump back into RIFT come Storm Legion. I was really interested in the Warlord changes they made, and the over all QOL changes to the warrior tree through Paragon and Champion no longer being locked to specific weapon styles. We shall see though.

"In the immediate future, we have this one, and then we’ve got another one that is actually going to be – so we’re going to have, what we want to do, is in January, what we’re targeting to do, this may or may not happen, so you can’t hold me to it. But what we’re targeting to do, is have a fun anniversary to the Ilum shenanigans that happened. An alien race might invade, and they might crash into Ilum and there might be some new activities that happen on the planet." ~Gabe Amatangelo

This was a problem in WoW PVP late in Vanilla. When Naxx raiders stomped all over the BGs owning the players who'd spent months and months grinding out their PVP ranks. It was an uproar and rightfully so. And while I agree with the need to keep that in check, I'm not ok for separations.  PVP gear should be better for PVP than equal raid gear, but raid gear shouldn't be useless either. And likewise, Good PVP gear should not be ok in raids as raid gear maybe as a downgraded tier in terms of overall effect. I think that the addition of Resil in WoW was a lazy and quick fix. I'm not saying it's the worst solution, but something about a PVP only stat bugs me.

Tried it in beta and couldn't handle how much it was like wow. Also despised the tiny landmass available. Looks like so nice changes but not enough for me to throw cash down.

"like 'old daoc'" ... seriously? you know how often i heard that lately from people who actually claimed daoc had open world pvp?

my main prob about the rift pvp has nothing to do with daoc,  all about OP souls and mendatories. also the pvp they gave us on release was plain and simply boring. i didnt see ANYTHING innovative in that game - which basically is no prob, but running around screaming how cool, new und unexpected the new game is and then delivering wow version 23b is sth i am allergic to.

basically rift is a solid game tho, but i seriously dont see any reason to buy a wow clone, i already own wow ^^

i played DAOC for over four years and then played warhammer for another two years on its release. I was there from orginal frontiers when it was level 40s running around out there and there was no realm rank 5s running around killing everyone as level 51s . I was there for shrouded isles beta testing it when beta was still beta and not PR campeigns . I was there for TOA when it ruined DAOC for majority of the player base and then redeemed the game somewhat when catacombs released . New frontiers which sucked IMO as i miss the emain milegate fights more then anything else and the relic defenses at 4am .

If you did conquest in Rift you would notice more similiarities to open skirmish pvp with DAOC then GW2 even can offer as they are more like doorhammer online then anything close to DAOC. Even Rift has prestiage ranks 1-50 and you get 1 point to spend in pvp planar attunement as you get stronger in pvp just like DAOC had . The souls have been completely redesigned from the ground up and each has better synergy with one another. Is it great change, its to early to tell but this patch changed rift completely. As for linear quests and zones there is now instant adventure10-50 , you dont even have to touch a quest ot level and you can also level through pvp to 50 . SL release is going to take care of the world being so small problem as the new zones are 3 times the size of the entire orginally world.

Also i played wow MOP and unsubbed after two weeks Rifts expansion is in another league entirely then that grindy daily quest garbage blizzard just released trust me. Even after all these years all blizzard can do is give players a garden so they can play farmville , yet rift gives not only housing , but each player a small zone to themselves to design how they want to , just like minecraft creative mode , so calling rift a clone now is not even fair it has taken on its own identity

Dude I dont know what is your problem. Really dont give a s... . I am tired of trolling, really sick.

First of all open your eyes and check gear in low level warfront. Do you see the purple things???? The account ones and the epic ones??? Do you think I am blind or what?

You say I dont play rift. Ok.

Server icewatch. Char name: Noctumbus. PLAYING THE GAME RIGHT NOW

So I must be banned for expressing my opinion on a game? Right . Like I sayed I dont want to know what problem do you have.

Before opening your mouth learn what A TWINK IS.

Second the mercenary system dont work always and you have many warfronts that need to be closed cos the unbalanced population.

I dont know of you play in usa or europe . Refering to europe.

my problem is trying to scare off people with false information about pvp in rift and low levels. You can get just about all the purple gear you want just by spending 30 minutes in instant adventure, its not even hard and its not twinking. Account bound stuff is weak , even if purple and it doesnt give you an edge. You made your post sound like twinks were in rift killing the pvp and that just is not the case. If that wasnt your intent I apoligize but thats how the post came off as.

People daily post nonsense in rift threads here as you can see from the 3 other pages ahead of this saying nonsense that isnt even true , just based off beta times they spent with a free mmorpg.com pass key back in the day. So yeah im on the defensive and if thats not what you ment like i said i apoligize , but there is no twinks anymore in pvp and faction balance isnt an issue as guardian and defiant play on the same team now as mercs and in guilds together group raid together etc. Heck 3 of my defiant 50s are in a guardian guild that i played with about a year ago when i leveled up a couple of guardian 50s and i really loved the guild. But is no more twinking since 1.9 patch and mercs fill in slots for both teams now in warfronts.

Gear is easy as it gets , to obtain due to instant adventure dailys . Run the daily quest you get three sourcestone , and about 3 will drop from your adventure , use that to convert to planarite and the rest to buy all the purple and blue gear you want from the vendors in each zone. Also pvp rings , amulets, even a 90 speed mount start after 20.

edit-if warfronts are closing due to population its time to roll on a new server as ive never once had any warfronts close due to population and pops leveling up were about 5 second instant queue to 1 min long waiting even late night .

This was a problem up until recently when Trion removed the XP lock feature and people were forced to level up again.

i too got hooked to rift not at the first, but at the second sight.

mmorpgers, instead of being a swarm of mmo-devouring locusts, need to learn that some mmorpgs improve a lot upon relase, and NO mmorpg improved as much in such a short time as rift.

The end game in Rift is grind, grind, grind. It is all about Uber armor - sorry I played Rift for a year and got off that cycle of, 'OH, the next dungeon is coming out - time to group and grind out the next Uber armor for that dungeon'. Sorry, it is boring as hell and not fun with players who take it like a job.

The regular play in Rift is grind, grind, grind also. It is not that fun of a game and the game world is really small.

I think this is true. Infact , I kinda fell into what I thought was a valid way of looking at mmorpgs, with the gw2 hype and I told people and myself that I didnt need gear grind to enjoy a game, but I found out from gw2 that it is exactly what I like about MMOs.

I like to group up, raid up, guild up, help those people gear up, and work together to take on new challenges. I like the sense of making my character a fraction better, to help my group/raid/guild even if by a fraction. And while I agree you can get this type of gameplay alot of places, I do especially like Rift for its Rifts, and Zone events, its class system, its look and feel, and its developer.

So while I could see why someone might point out grind, or it being so much like other games, the gear treadmill and so forth as a negative, to me its a positive.
