It's utter lies, deceit, shilling and crap like this will push that one forum troll over the edge one day and he's going to go on a spree murdering every single last one of these 'people'.
Who cares, it's a meaningless award. Let Nero fiddle while Romes burns.
There are certain queer times and occasions in this strange mixed affair we call life when a man takes this whole universe for a vast practical joke, though the wit thereof he but dimly discerns, and more than suspects that the joke is at nobody's expense but his own. -- Herman Melville

Okay, that one might sadly be true. Its only best of the year. I hasnt to be good in absolute terms. Just better than everybody else.

That is what makes the game's failure even more unbelievable. They had no real competition! It is understandable to see TSW or even TERA struggle when there was GW2 on the horizon or a lot of people playing D3. But when SWTOR released there was nothing else to play other than some people dragging out Skyrim. It was like some sad 4 year old whiffing in T-ball. How on Earth did they miss?
Originally posted by stayontarget Well what did you expect, Its not like these developers have a great track record on giving us what we want over the last few years. The voting by these boobs don't surprise me one bit.
Stuff like this is very widespread. EA's pockets are deep and that money trickles to sites like this. "Want review copies or advertisements? Give us a good review."
This very site fired one of their writers because he gave SWTOR a 6 and refused to change it.
/facepalm. That is not why the writer was fired. You should get your facts straight before spewing nonsense. Back on topic, agreed the deck was stacked in the voting, but from my viewpoint the clear winner once again would be none of the above. Hasn't been a good MMORPG been made in years from what I am looking for i'm the genre.
That is the reason, actually. They tried to get him to not post his review and instead do a "pros and cons" debate article with another staff member. Except, all the questions and answers were more or less written so that the more common complaints could be stated by the writer, and then torn apart by the other writer. Instead, he just posted his review anyway.
But the safe story that MMORPG.com went with is "We didn't like how he came into the game so predisposed to give it a bad score, and we didn't like that he bragged about giving it a bad score."
? That was way, WAY before last month, the time that you created this account of yours, many months ago and iirc among a flood of posts and threads in that time. You're saying that you were keeping that close watch on all the forums of this site for that long and only recently decided to create an account and post this abundantly? Wow.
You should take your own Occam's Razor advice here bud.
It was kind of big news and spread to several other sites.
He was posting what he was going to post here over at the Darkfall Forums before it was published here. You obviously don't know much about jouralism if you think that is even remotely OK. This is why he was fired. When someone is paying you a staff writer's salary to write for them you don't pre-post what your going to write on another site. It had absolutely nothing to do with his score for SWTOR. I think you need to get your facts straight as it was abundently obvious why he was fired at the time. He very flagrantly breeched his Staff Writer's contract with MMORPG.com. Oh and I agreed with his review on SWTOR but I can still admit that he was fired for being incredibly stupid.

Is it breaching a contract if you post a piece that they refuse to publish?

Yes, but he also posted some things that were going to get published they just hadn't made it through the process yet. He seriously f**ked up.
Don't get me wrong... I personally liked his reviews and the articles he wrote while he was here but I don't kid myself over why he was let go. This was over much more than one score for a game.

what does timespan leave? SWTOR and TERA ?
But if it's SWTOR and TERA ... why did SWTOR win this...
"Best Online Visual Arts: Star Wars: The Old Republic (BioWare Austin)"
A cartoony butchered Star Wars themed game with awful animations somehow won that over TERA?
They also won best Tech, i'm pretty sure hitboxes, collision detection, self aimed reticle combat is harder and more complicated than tab targetting, also TERA is a persistent world.
Both games are full of flaws, but SWTOR does not deserve those two rewards for any reason at all, I would have given the reward to the Sims in artstyle before SWTOR because SWTOR already had art to go off and they still managed to do horribly.

SWTOR a terrible game? thanks for the laugh. Why can't people just say "It's a good game, just not my thing". I also don't like GW2, for me it's one of the most boring MMO's i've played. Yet i don't come here saying "this game is garbage".
You want to know what's terrible?! I'll tell you, it's the MMO community. A bunch of spoiled brats who can't see anything improving or growing with time.

We can't see it because nothing is improving, besides graphics, but graphics don't make a game.

Best New Online Game: Star Wars: The Old Republic (BioWare Austin)
"It was a long journey to get there, and a lot of people. It's a huge game, the biggest thing I can imagine to do, this project. A lot of effort went into it." - Former executive producer Rich Vogel, who was, touchingly, brought on stage by the current team members in attendance to accept the award with them.
[I'll check others if I have time, gave up because 85% of them had an EA affiliation that was publicized]
Others are still affiliated with EA, or were at one time. It hardly seems fair, even though SWTOR wasn't up to par with expectations, that developers get to vote for themselves to advance their carrers, on a panel that has a significant proportion of EA influence. Just to give themselves awards. Journalists ran with this story, but none of which actually looked at the makeup of who was capable of the votes.
What s sham to gamers.
Yes the fix was in, and they got awards that they don't deserve. All this in hopes of bolstering the stock price. Somebody forom the SEc needs to look at them for stock malipulation as this is what it is.

Runescape is an old game.
You are paying too much attention to the facts of the matter! What's wrong with you??
If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

The ironic thing is that no game deserves the award, there hasnt been a good MMORPG in years. Shows what a sad state the MMO industry is in.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
SWTOR is an ok game. I love the Star Wars universe but the PvE is horrible, combat is bad and quest system is old and boring, PvP is unbalanced.
The things i like with SWTOR is the story of a few classes and the Legacy System.
