How does the game run for you. Need a little help here!

I'm having a little bit of trouble running the game.  Whenever I get in the game and start moving around, I'm having some serious framerate issues.  It's not unplayable, but it's pretty bad.  How does the game run for you?  I'm not wanting it to run silky smooth, but atleast somewhere around there. Here's my current setup....

512 Ram, 2.8 GHZ, ATI Radeon X300 SE, and I have 128 Vitrual Memory Ram...

I'm thinking I need to jack the ram up to over 1 gig.  Do you think I would need a new videocard aswell?  I have about 200-300 to spend....  So any suggestions would be welcome.  :)

Thanks!

  • 1GIG of RAM will make your problems go away.  However, if you want to try to save your money, try the following items if you haven't already.

    1)  Make sure you have the latest ATI Catalyst (drivers) installed.
    2)  Once in-game, set the Video Settings to "Maximum Framerate"
    3)  Lower the resolution in Video Settings.
    4)  Under the Advanced  tab in Video Settings, make sure that all cars and pedestrians are set to the lowest values.
    5)  Also in the Advanced tab, turn Effects to "Self" and also make sure that rain and grass are turned off.
    6)  Play on a low population server.

    Additional best practice things:

    1)  Increase the size of your Windows pagefile.  http://http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308417#31
    2)  Kill all unnecessary processes via Task Manager before starting the game.
    3)  Disable unncessary services to free up more RAM:  http://www.techreviewer.com/viewpage.cfm?pi=14
    4)  <<ADVANCED>> Overclock your video card safely with ATITool.  http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/

but the ram dude. you're gonna need it for the newer generation games anyway.

If possible, set your page file to a differant HDD than your OS is located on. I find that 768mb page works well for 1gb of memory.

If you can spare the $$ you might want to get a video card with 256mb of memory. It helps.

I plan on upgrading here soon.  But what do you guys think I should get?  Another 512 of ram + a videocard with atleast 256 on it?  I'm not going to need to upgrade my ghz or anything am I?  Just ram & videocard?

yeah. memory, and a vid card with as much memory as you can get. Your processor should be fine. It's the massive amount of textures that are the big problem...and memory is the solution.

something else to try is the omega drivers for the ati card (they are what i use) . they clame to have a preformace boost, altho i have not benchmarked my system and can not say for shure i would tend to agree.
it ran farcry on a 7500. it was ugly but the game lauched. i use it for my 9800 now.
if you wnatem go here http://omegadrivers.net/
