Figured I'd Finally Pick this Up

in TERA

Played in teh beta, but never pulled the trigger.  Just saw it on sale and figured what the heck.  I always though it was a gorgeous game. 

So how's the leveling speed? Is it decent or grindy slow?

If in 1982 we played with the current mentality, we would have burned down all the pac man games since the red ghost was clearly OP. Instead we just got better at the game.

    Leveling speed is actually really fast. I hit 50 in about 40 hours of game time not sure if it drops off after that and becomes a grind but it sounds like it doesn't.

    I loved the combat in this game, the best combat system IMO any MMO has in place in being able to bridge the gap between MMos and the lobby based games. If only they didn't stay steps behind when it came to keeping the quests (In a rather dule fashion too) and put effort into adding more this could of easily been a huge success. The combat alone kept me hooked on this game far longer then GW2 did.

    Raptr has a 50% sale (I think from the digital download at EME store).  I think it's still up.

    As for the leveling it's actually good.  Meaning a nice clip up to 40-50.  Around those levels it slows down but never to known Korean grinder levels.  Feels like the perfect compromise speed.  It's not a flash like DCUO or SWTOR but it's not Aion either.

    The leveling is much funner and smoother, and past 40 faster if in a group, preferably 2-3.  You get small XP bonuses when grouped and it helps makes kills faster.  So if you feel meh, make it a point to be friendly with people in your zone and see if you can match up with a few quests and maybe partner up as a leveling buddy. 

    I've gone from "leave me alone, I just want to grind a few mobs solo" to "let's meet up tomorrow around the same time to continue this chain" in a matter of a single whisper.

    Up to level 30 BAMs award really good XP, but from then on not so much, but they do drop loot and if you have groups the XP then becomes OK.  Since you are beginning this week pay attention to the Halloween event.  BAMs will be dropping more "pie" than normal mobs, which can be used on an event to win several things, a mount among them.

    While enchanting has been significantly imrpoved don't waste money enchanting while leveling since you'll soon outlevel the item anyway.  Save your gold to collect your first chronoscroll now going from 1300-1500.  Once you get your first scroll and are level 50 the game can be fully free.  By 60 you'll be able to generate all the gold needed for othr things.

    Agreed.

    Too bad it doesn't have any instanced pvp until you're near cap, though. I wish there were factions too so there'd be more open world pvp.

    The questing in this is atrocious. I mean, I know it's a KRPG, but good lord, at least try. It kills me because the combat for this game is flawless and the dungeons and OWPVP are amazing.

    e.g. Kill 10 evil trees. Kill 20 palette swapped evil trees. Collect 10 branches of evil trees.

    Why do games even have levels if they are so rediculously dumb to max?  Oh well, I'm looking for a game with longevity.

    no longevity here at all. down to 3 servers, not very crowded and going F2P now. the co-producer quit just a week after giving this very website a very reassuring interview too.
