Some questions

Since I would have to spend around 10-12 days downloading the trial(poor 56ker), I would like to make sure that it would be worth downloading.

Just a few questions:

Immersion:

Can you jump?

Can you move in three dimensions in water?

Can you level continuously doing quests (without having to take a break to grind (like in WoW after lvl 40 or so)) ?

Are the quests elaborate and interwoven with the story?

How is the economy?

Character Customization:

Are there any point distributions that make your character unique (i.e. attributes, skill trees)?

System and connection requirements:

System specs:

2 ghz P4

512 Ram

Nvidia Geforce 4 4200

This sufficient to play the game with decent looking graphics?

Can this game be played with a 56k connection?

at the beginning yes, it gets harder around lvl 15 but quests can always bring in some great xpAre the quests elaborate and interwoven with the story?

not like in WoW with a skill tree, but every couple levels you get traits. they come in a couple different catagories. some adjust your stats (agility, stamina, strength...), some adjust your health or mana cap or regen rate, some are racial specific traits, some are actually new really good skills (once every 10 levels) and some are creature masteries

you could run the game most likely around high preformance (right below balanced) which still looks pretty good, but you deffinitely want a gig of ram if you want good preformanceCan this game be played with a 56k connection?
yes, one of my most active guild members actually runs on 56k and he doesn't have many problems at all

Thanks so much; your response and the good things I've read about EQ2 from the forums sounds like it will be my next mmorpg after WoW.

You may not be satisfied with 512 RAM on that system ... I would plan to bump it to a gig.  I used a 64 meg 4200ti with a gig RAM on a 2.4 and it runs the game quite well.

I would recommend upping your system to at least 1 gig. It's cheaper than dirt these days and the download times will be very much faster

Sorry to ask another question, but it simply isn't feasible for me to upgrade my ram (at least not for a few months - year).

Can I still play EQ2 to it's fullest (engaging in raids, groups etc.) with only 512 ram?

I am not particularly choosy about graphics and wouldn't mind playing this game on the lowest settings.

Honestly, I don't know.  Try the trial ... that should give you the answer.

I seriously doubt you would want to play on the lowest graphics setting - it's unbelievably bad.  The second lowest setting is way above it though and quite nice.

There are also slider bars to adjust most settings, so if you are unhappy with game response, you can adjust according to your own preferences.  So, if you don't care about shadows, water, lighting, etc., you can turn them down to a minimum setting.  My system is minimal (2.66ghz P4, 512mb ram, nvidia Gforce FX 5200 card) and I don't experience many problems in the game.  However, I usually play solo and haven't been in any large-scale raids yet.  In the main city of Qeynos, loading times are pretty horrible (I'll run through Antonica, an outdoor zone, rather than lag-run through the 3 sectors of Qeynos) and zoning (which you'll do a lot of) takes longer than if you have a better system.   

The way I see it, the game will be playable for quite a while without a better system, depending on what you like to do.  If you like heavy grouping and raid-type encounters, you might experience some slowdown.  If I could only afford one, I'd increase ram before buying a new video card simply because I've experienced significant improvement in heavy traffic/graphics areas with more ram (i.e., DAOC RvR zones). 

Patience is the name of the game if you have a lower end system and most of that patience will be tried in zone times and navigating through the main cities (Qeynos/Freeport), not in struggling to actually play.

I will answer to these 3 questions, I agre with the answers to all other questions.

I actually agree with the answer given except that I wanted to comment that in WoW you still can level doing quests, at least I did. Since you have a different opinion,I would assume you would not think that EQ2 has similar structure. I find EQ2 quests a bit more chaotic, much more simpler and requires u to run a LOT. Its hard to get around freeport so you will spend a lot of time just trying to find the right zone. At least I did. However, it does seem to help your exp flow quite a lot.

Pretty much no. Most quests are very simple and take one step: kill x many things, or get x many items from a mob which basicaly means kill mob x till u get x amount of quest items (they dont take room like in WoW)

"How is the economy?"
Economy seems very complex to me. I have a low level character (level 12) so I have not experienced this feature fully. I dont know if the auction house (is that the correct name for it?) where you search for items to purchase is one across the server (one per FP and one for Qeynos) or is it one per zone? If its one per zone, then you will have trouble purchasing/selling since youd have to run around all parts of FP to see what items you want to buy.
If the market is global, meaning regardless where you are accessing it from you always get all the item lists, then the economy is not very saturated - i did a search in one of the parts of FP (forgot which one) and it resulted in a very limited amount of items. Im not sure if I did it right though, so If im wrong please correct me, cause i tried to buy a weapon and i got a result of 3 items, 2 were under my skill and 1 was just right for me but i already had an item that was better.

To give u a summary of my experience:
EQ2 is not as friendly to starting players as WoW, I got lost too many times, i didnt know what to do, didnt know whereto go level, got stuck with buggy quest once. but once you overcome all that, once u join a good guild and start playing in groups thats when EQ2 shines the most. EQ2 is all about group cooperation.
