Well if you like mindnumbing leveling experince with classic carrot on a stick raid to get your pixel epic that will be obselete anway when Turbine release new raids and you have to start all over again then you will feel right at home.
Although the housing/area feature part seems pretty good.
Since when did Turbine have anything to do with Rift? Do you mean Trion? You should try to refrain from posting if you aren't sure of what you are talking about.

That's a statement that applies to more names than just Rift...
People always like to point out that new games naturally have much less endgame.. but look where that's gotten Rift. Imagine if it had so much endgame, when it launched. Maybe it would have held onto a lot more players. Maybe devs should really consider making that more of a priority.
Once people leave, they tend to leave for good.. I think this idea that they can build an endgame later might be severely flawed.
You are right.
Sadly, MMOs take a long time to develop and you need to start getting the money back ASAP and that need occurs way before you have all the stuff in that you wanted. Hence content patches and expansions.
I left Rift because of the gameplay mechanics, though. They were so close to WoW (which si good) that it made me miss WoW and everytime I played Rift I was wishing I was in WoW. So I switched back.
Thinking of trying Rift again, but with so much to do in MoP still I'll have to wait a bit.
Originally posted by Kuppa Endgame pve, most definately Rift. In themeparks pve is based on content and they have more content since they have been out longer. For PvP hands down GW2.
RIFT has more PVP content too. Plus there are more options in abilities and playstyles.
edit - RIFT has Wpvp too. A lot of it.
We've already had this discussion, quality > quantity.
I don't think that we have. We don't have to though. Quality is subjective when it comes pvp. I personally loved PvP in RIFT. Battle grounds, PvP rifts, Wpvp, duels, and now 3 faction pvp all with a huge talent system.
PvP in GW2 just seemed too simple for my likes with not enough to do. To each his own though.
We did have it, you don't remember though. When you say Rift has more PVP content it reminded me exactly of that discussion. You believe in various types of pvp is very important, not for me. I prefer good mechanics and a good footing, usually MMOs tend to just create a bunch of maps and map styles and don't really care about the mechanics or balance of pvp.
Just like an FPS or even LoL, simple and well done is were pvp shines. When you bring in gimmicks and more "content" to hide flaws is when I'm not interested. In most MMOs pvp is an afterthought...

GW2 doesn't have a massive endgame because it's new. It lacks endgame because the devs purposely are staying away from the traditional pve endgame. There is no gear grind so there is no need for the old endgame like WoW has.
Rift had a decent endgame at launch and they are renowned for their speed of adding game content. The thing that kills Rift for a lot of people is the leveling system. The quest grind in this game is so boring.
You don't think ArenaNet will be adding a lot more to do at endgame?
Maybe not tradition raiding gear grind stuff.. but I'm not talking about that specifically. I hate WoW-style raiding. I'm just talking about having more stuff to do. Stuff that's rewarding in some way or another, even at 80. There are all sorts of ways they could go, that might appease the "where's the endgame???" people. I just think most of them will be gone, by the time they get around to it.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

Yes Gollum I talked bad about your precious.
Wrong company.
Have you ever played RIFT?
Yes I have lost interrest at about lvl 40, when the RIFT "dynamic" event wore off and doing quest hub after quest hub after quest hub after quest hub after quest hub and did the zone dungeon to get better gear so I could do the next level zone dungeon so yeah I played it.

Same here, I loved the depth of Rift PVP, with all the different build setups that counter other setups etc. I liked the somewhat slower, more strategic feel of the battles.
I mean, there's a place for action oriented combat in MMOs (I guess), I just preffer Rifts. I have FPS games for the twitch stuff.

I LOVED the soul builds in Rift and it's why I played it for 9 months.. Trions big issue was balance and probably still is an issue.. from the fotm classes to OP healing to CC issues it was like a roller coaster every single patch.. having said that if people feel GW2 pvp is simplistic in it's builds they really have not spent a lot of time in the mists.. you have a LOT of flexability and with no healers/no gear seperation it's a much much more balanced playing field

I was reading the LOTRO forums at the time, so yeah what can I tell you, misstakes happends and on these boards nitpicking words really drops hard.
Rift hands down. GW2 end game is non existant. You know that PvP and WvW you touched on while leveling? Thats pretty much it. Can grind the heck out of dungeons if you want the pretty gear there but otherwise its not really meant for 'end game', more so all game pvp.
That and personal I've had a lot more fun with Rift then GW2, the combat in that game felt so iffy to me. Literally due to 'auto attack' in that game, I feel like my character auto pilots there more then in Rift, particularly with events where I'd afk in GW2 out of sheer boredom. Again, if you can't tell GW2 was a big disapointment to me and it varies. In terms of PvE, you have no option but Rift.
PvP... honestly Rift is lacking the PvP community. That being said, I'm not honestly that big on GW2 pvp. Its a bit stale itself, specially for a "PvP" focused game and rather weak. How to build for GW2 pvp:
1.) Condition Damage or Regular Damage?
2.) Damage or Survivability.
Once you got those set up, its super easy to make a build (and trivial almost theres not all that much effect on what you can do minus a few key points and talents to reflect your weapon choice) and its all about putting the right stuff in your gear.
