Everything you post about SWTOR F2P is a whine fest. But they really did make some dumb decisions. Their goal is clear: Annoy the F2Pers enough to make them sub.
I suppose I can take this as a compliment, since you found the unavoidable truth somewhat entertaining.
The truth hurts sometimes. Face up to it and stop calling truth-tellers whiners?
Originally posted by funyahns I was looking at offical forums, and a large portion of people were supporting the 1 hot bar for ftp. I think its a bit out crazy to expect this to actually get someone to want to sub. If I am playing a game on a demo, which is sort of what ftp is. The last thing you want to do is to make me feel unwelcome or to make my in game life complicated. What they should do is make the game fun, where I am meeting people who want me to group with them and stuff. If I am making friends and having fun I am far more likely to sub than if you try to make everything inconvenient.
The official forums is full of shills, who promote anything and everything EA offers.
It is against the law for EA to advertise and promote / criticize others for their own agenda on external sites, like this one.
Having EA promote their own products on their own websites is like going to a Coke(tm) website and reading about how it's #1 in a taste test.
The SWTOR official forums can be entertaining, maybe even informative, but you need to skip through all the BS. EA pays people to shill. Hi Andryah :-)
Don't most f2p have very similar restrictions? I think the UI restrictions are just terrible, but most of the rest seem spot on. The gear is not "epic p2w" It's good for the level, but moddable (ie you can put in new mods to keep the look).
They want you to sub, and you get so much by subbing that with the f2p, it's worth it, unless you are going to play it super casual.
Originally posted by alexanys1982 i paid 60 for this game and I still lose all my rights when it goes F2P?
You are not the only one bud. EA dont care of ppl that spend money for the media. It plain sucks.
What rights did you have when you were not subbed to the game? You can play to level 15 as long as you want. But as soon as you unsubbed, you couldn't play.
Now you can play to 50 and do a bunch of other things.
That's just too much restriction for a Free to Play game. In some standards it seems more like a trial to level cap. I guess they're going for the bare minimum essence of F2P, as in we can play it like a solo game till the end for free.

Screen shot, or it didn't happen.
The gist of this thread is not about subscibing, but about EA's "F2P" model.. which is not exactly free if someone wants a standard MMO.
A model like this drives me away. The fact that it is an EA game is a little discomforting. The fact that it is a Star Wars game hurts, bad.

Maybe if you posted your whines less frequently I wouldn't have even noticed. But at least you are coherent and mostly reasonable and so I can't justify just blocking you. Just because I think you're whining a lot, it doesn't mean I think you are wrong. I just think you complain too much about the same thing over and over. Maybe it's time to move on.

Aww I'm sorry I crapped on your game. I'd like to say that I'll do better next time.
But I'll call crap as I see it, so no promises.
A shame you might ignore me, I actually liked what you had to say in other threads, Frodo. I wish it was bi-directional.

Oh oh, I didn't mean, this game is worth subbing over at all. I enjoy it again, so I am. Most won't because the end game is just atrocious, the pvp is meh (well, it's not bad before you hit 50), and it is lacking in some areas. Others won't even think about trying the f2p because it's EA or Bioware. I meant, if you plan on playing this game a lot, subbing is worth it, compared to being nickled and dimed in the shop. There are some very questionable items in the shop, but you can still get to 50 free.

The offical forum is comedy gold at times. I can only hope that the people inside of the game itself are far better than what I see in the forum. I think a lot of them are just insane fans and not employed. Hard to think that being so insulting and ignorant of things would be helpful to getting people to sign up.
It sounds to me like they're trying to bring people who want to try the game in...and then subject them to the equivalent of shaming to get them to subscribe.
I'm not certain this is very well thought out. Especially the UI thing. That's just pointlessly...well, cruel. Or the helmet thing. I mean...really?
Hmm, so they're using the whole "Look we're now F2P!" thing as a bait and switch type of thing. That actually makes sense after looking at it. Make the F2P option look so bad that people would rather sub.
Heh, too bad that won't work.
Nickle and dime to the extreme. Next up they'll demand $10 for hairstyles. . . aw crap I hope they don't see this.
You know what's fun about chaos? I do, but I won't tell.
The one skill bar has to be seriously one of the worst f2p restrictions Ive ever heard of, and supposedly its something like $25 to unlock it for your entire account.
This isnt f2p, its an unlimted trial that does everything it can to force you to sub, just like AoC's f2p conversion.
There'a a poll thread, where I voted AoC's f2p the worst, but I guess now we have a new winner to that position.
Most restrictions of TOR are ok, some of them a bit harsh, but this 1bar-only... this will set a new standard in the category of "stupid design ideas"
Seems they don't get the point of f2p conversion (just like Funcom with AoC), the whole point is to lure in new players, and take their money. You can't get money from someone who leave your game early. C'mon, it's not rocket science...
TOR already proved that more than 1.5million people, who already paid for the box, didn't found the game worthy for a subscription. EA really thinks that new players, when get annoyed with the 1 bar only, will subscribe rather than simply leave? Lol.
Hey!, maybe they WANT to annoy people away, what do we know
All this will surely work in that direction.
yea im fine with restrictions but some of this stuff is downright crazy.. no hide helmet option? really? only one skill bar? also little odd they upped the PVP gear prices for F2P when you are limited the 3 warzones a week anyway...
it is still on test realms .they will change it when it gets public
I was a strong supporter of the game and was looking forward to coming back for F2P, but the one killer for me is the one hot bar. To be honest, I'm not so sure now I will come back and I may just focus on GW2 for now. Hopefully they will listen to the community and adjust this.
Hey!, maybe they WANT to annoy people away, what do we know
All this will surely work in that direction.
This is a good speculation as to their intent. If EA can MAKE this game fail, then they might be able to excuse themselves from their obligation with George Lucas .. an obligation which carries a high cost.
In essense, EA might be trying to get this game to tank, because in the long run, it's more profitable. They still need to show that they "tried", which will be important in court hearings.
No speculation. It clearly seems that way. All those restrictions have only one goal. Piss off the players big time!
There is probably a clausule in the license contract with LA that if the game tanks, they can end the contract early.
The LA license for Star Wars is not cheap, you can bet on that. So as they are already losing money, it's better to tank the game hard and fast, so they can end the license agreement with LA as fast as possible to cut their losses.
Right, what do you think someone that comes back and experience all these stuff be:
1) OMG is this for real, im outta here
2) YEAH, NOW i want to sub again!
And new player: i need another quickslot. 10$? yeah sure.
Guess they figured that if the game fails this way it will cost them less then bail out of contract with LA. Smart move lol
Guess noone will ever say a bad thing about Turbine again ha ha

I was playing around with STO waiting for TOR to go F2P... now not so much.
STO has a far superior F2P model, with this one hotbar nonsense it certainly seems like EA simply wants their game to die.

i laughed so hard. i mean look at all of that crap haha. this is the state of mmos today.
ok let me get this straight....
you take a game that was recently subscription only and at full tilt sub it was not able to satisfy players with content or features.
Now you parse that meager game out into subcomponents?
I don't see how that can be anything less than super shitty.
