i remember some of the older MMOs, my memory is foggy but if I remember right AO and AC had dev events but back then there were a lot less people playing at once... i do remember some of the farewell events like SWG was a laggy nightmare...
Unless it is a really simple 'data' like Dwarf fortress, I doubt mainstream hardware can do 1000+ anything for the next 10 years.
Blizzard learnt their lesson back in the AQ gates 2007(?) and ANet is now learning it in 2012.
I doubt we'll see another 'one time event' that focuses on just one small area in GW2.

probably not but we will see.. if people would just stop playing this wouldn't be an issue:)
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

lol just about everyone did..
then there was a huge clump of players at the spawn point that went LFG.
I've solod him 3 times now. Once on my Mesmer, twice on my Thief, hes not hard to solo and you can get out of range and heal back up(out of combat) and in doing so he doesnt regen...just slip in and out of combat as much as u like with him. Not really worth it though, rewards seem to be mediocre after the first time...all I got were greens.
even with the army of trash mobs around him? thats pretty impressive..

how many times did u die?
yea seriously I'd love to see video of that because there is a ton of trash that gets spawned

You didn't hear this from me, but I have heard that there are spots in the Mad King's Boss area that allow you to attack him while taking almost no damage.

i could see that for him but what about the army of his little minions

You mean those crow things? That's easy, just commit suicide, and you take no armor penalties...unless you died due to enemy attacks, in which case, tough noogies.
ALSO, if you click on the waypoint that is on the minimap when you are falling when out of combat, you can teleport there as long as you don't hit the ground first.

I bet people are just farming the bajeesus out of this boss fight

Oh, I just went around them. The outer edges of the boss area are not blocked off, so I just sidled around them. Worst case scenario is that you aggro maybe one or two of them, but they drop aggro the moment you fall down onto those stepping stones to the 1st sub-basement.

sounds like a lot of work for not much reward.. but guess whatever makes people happy:) I'm just happy doing it a couple times with a full group.. actually XP was pretty high so guess it may be worth it for some

Well the whole suicide thing was kinda inevitable, considering the number of times I've accidentally rolled off the edge and realized that you don't take any armor penalities.
The teleportation while falling thing was by complete accident. I was trying to adjust my minimap to find out where the Mad King had gone after his health hit 75%, and I ended up double-clicking the waypoint by mistake after I nearly commited suicide again.

I just figured it could be useful.
yeah, and I remember that his life never regens..
so Im just putting all this together and realizing how easy it is to not only farm him,but also solo him without even dying once.

Well you still die, it's just that it's done on purpose rather than from the guy actually killing you.
Also, I had just as much fun finding all of these little shortcuts to save myself some coins as much as I did beating the crap out of him (which going solo took me about 2 hours).
Just did the dungeon thrice now. If you find yourself near death just jump off the ledge and warp back after falling. You'll have to run past respawned mobs though as well as be careful jumping around to get back to the boss fight.

not sure what you are looking for.. but just ran two more times you only get the huge XP from your first run so farming is pretty pointless.. although you get some crafting stuff like the skulls.. i got an exotic sword from my first run then greens from my next two runs.. fight is a lot of fun though
