Yup I think traditional p2p model is dead. You got hybrid or you have small playerbase.

Even WoW is steadily losing subscribers now and newer games like Rift, SWTOR and TSW have found they can't keep the impetus going once people have levelled a character.

What potentially popular games are on the horizon for P2P players at the moment? I'm sure there must be some but I don't have any on my wishlist. I'm happily playing GW2 at the moment. When I need a break from that I'll go back to LotRO, where I have already bought the latest expansion but having a lifetime sub I'm free to log in or not at my own pace. GW2 is bound to have an expansion next year and LotRO almost certainly will too. Just those two games can keep me going simply by purchasing the expansions. No need for any additional subscription with either. Then I will also have Planetside 2, End of Nations available from a pay as you go cash shop menu if I want I bit of mass PvP on the side.

The only game on my wishlist atm is The Repopulation, a sandbox game reminiscent of my first and favourite mmo of all time SWG. That's also going to be freemium but  I'm already so hoping it will deliver the kind of game I've been wishing for since SWG was trashed in 2005 I've pledged $100 to it's Post Kickstarter campaign, so it's not a case of preferring F2P type models simply to save money.

As more and more games with hybrid payment models appear, it's less likely  that a purely P2P game would ever keep my interest for any length of time. I did buy and play both SWTOR and TSW this year but I cancelled SWTOR after the first month and TSW after the second. Both were ok to try out but I found neither worth a long term subscription and its hard to imagine any new game being any different.

You realize you just said subscriptions are dieing because WoW is losing subscribers? So again I ask to clarify your statement, because WoW loses subscribers, its because people don't want to pay subscriptions???
And you think it  has nothing to do with.. ugh maybe I dont want to be a f'ing Panda?
