Graphics processor temperature

I have a radeon x800 xt.  It runs at about 60c, when playing games it goes well over 80c.  My games seem to lock up after about 1-4 hours of play.  I get graphics card errors sometimes, something about not being able to start up the video card drivers.  Anyway, my main question is, is it my graphics processor being too hot that's causing these lockups?  Thanks!

That is quite normal. When I am not playing games, my card usually hits 64-68 C and when I run games, 80-85. Your core speed should start failing at 110-120, not 80.

My GPU is running at 47C right now, I imagine it's probably about about 60-70C when playing games.

It's not critical, but you might want to invest in another case fan.

Listen Asmodeeus, seven years ago, Ultima Online didn't even have those pathetic "quests" that you refer to or those "professions" of ninja, samurai, necromancer, and paladin. Nor did it have any of the neon crap, or bug mounts. It didn't even have any "combat moves." You turned on attack and jousted with simplistic swings. It was a better game then. if you can't guess why then just uninstall the thing and move along. - Crabby

How can you check what temp its running at?

Well, there's several ways to do it, but I use the Everest utility, since it tells you basically everything about your hardware you could want to know. Except, maybe, why it's not working. Heh.

I'm not sure about the ATI card... I use RivaTuner for my 6800 GT to record temperatures... I've only hit about 76C when running 3dmark05... I have seen reports tho of GPU's hitting 91c... Check the forums at Overclockers.com for more info.

(I think the site is down this morning, try it in a couple hours though.)

Downloaded it. Quite a nice thing to have, much better than my old "system info" utility. Thanks!

Dam, and here I was worried about my 6800 gt hitting 80C when playing doom 3 at 93 FPS.

Ok, so I was playing WoW, trying to figure out what is making me crash.  I kept checking my graphics processor temp, and eventually it got over 100C after 1-2 hours .  5 mins or so after this, everything shuts down.  The power light on the comp and monitor are still on but the monitor shut itself off.  So I take it 100C+ is too hot?  Do I need a new power supply?  Or do I need a new fan/cooling system thing?  Thanks!

Go to the Arctic Cooling website and check out the ATI Silencer 4 (Rev. 2). That should definitely lower your temperatures. When you order it, order some "Arctic Silver 5" thermal compound with it and use that instead of the one that comes with the cooler itself. It has better heat transfer properties. Oh, and when you order it from an online store, if they do not specify "Revision 2", make sure you confirm with them via e-mail or something that you are buying a Revision 2 card and not the original one.
