    to OP:

you see i had the exact opposite experience. i got into Rift when they had the free beta and played for a whole 2 hours before shutting it off and never looking back. to be fair i was looking for something different, new and innovative from teh old themepark formula.

the game itself felt exactly like a remake of Warhammer, except that almost everyone had a pet and somehow there was an invasion of aliens instead of orcs. the animations and art style were very reminiscent of War, the "rift" were pretty much public quests, the collision control was like in War, even the layout of the land felt like War.....2 hours and i said "nope, not doing THIS again...."

it just felt incredibly boring and repetitive. just something i've done and redone endlessly for the past 5+ years.

i'm glad it works for you though.

To be fair, while the Guardian side starter area is extremely reminiscent of WAR, the Defiant side is less so and the further you get out of the starter zones the less of that "vibe" is there -- though, granted, visually it's always there to a degree.

Honestly I would have been happier if Rift actually had been more like WAR and less like WoW. As it is, while it lacks any of the charm and a fraction of the content, the gameplay is so similar that while you may not be in Azeroth, you can be forgiven for needing to check the map just to be sure.

It really is the best fantasy mmo at the moment . It does remind me a little of WoW but in a good way because it reminds me of what WoW used to be but isn't anymore .  This is about as close you'll get anywhere to Vanilla WoW or the TBC era WoW at the moment in any mmo .  Unlike WoW its not facepalm easy . Also if you like the WoW bgs Rift has some similar ones to WSG and AB they take place on slightly bigger maps and they look at lot better . Downside is Rift doesn't run on every PC no matter how low the spec is .  I would also say it proberbly doesn't have as diverse a game world as WoW just yet ( it may next week though once the expansion is out ) . I'm not someone that calls every new mmo a WoW clone but to some degree Rift is but what it does is it just lift that type of game up a notch . For instance I play Walock build and its very similar to the WoW warlock but I can mix it with a chloromancer and that makes it very different because I now have some healing abilitys . Or take my marksman its very much like my WoW hunter but then I mix it with assasin and it takes on some of the rogue abilitie you would get from a rogue in WoW .

When I first played the Guardian starter areas I though so too also the first warfront reminded me a bit of a Warhammer one . Other than that there really no relation between the two games apart from the events being a vastly superior version of the public quests . I would actually love to see Rift emmulate some of Wars keep sieges they were fun .

Im just curious as to how you feel this is.  The talent trees do work a lot more like Vanilla/tBC, but I think the game is much closer to WOTLK/Cata in endgame structure.
