Learning Curve: Planetside 2 vs BF 3

wfsaxtonwfsaxton Member UncommonPosts: 73

I've played BF 2142 and 3 and enjoyed them.  This is my first experience with the PS franchise and it seems that PS2 is pretty similar (FPS, get xp to upgrade/expand skills/weapons, etc).  Still...I'm having a harder time trying to learn this one.  Here are the things I've been having problems with:

  • The mini-map is very difficult to read
  • You can't move and view the map @ the same time (very annoying)
  • There is no marking targets so its hard to see where enemies are on the map and on the mini-map (working as intended?)
  • Finding other people on your squad is difficult
  • INSERT seems to be only way to join a random squad...can't cycle through squads and see who is nearby so you can join them
  • I also have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to the objectives.  It looks like your team tries to "occupy" the hexes on the map somehow....but again not sure

Those are just a couple things.  Are there any tutorials out there to help me understand this game better?  Any answers to the issues I had above?

Also, why would people play this game as opposed to a BF3?  Is it because of the larger, persistant, world?  Cuz it seems like they are more polished than PS2...

My advice is join an outfit and get on their TS or at the very least use the squad voice chat when joining a random group; people will answer all of the questions you've raised here.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

i was a little confused to i think it was due to the sheer size of the map.

go thru your keybinds.  you can definately spot enemys.  im pretty sure it's with Q just like bf3.

it wouldn't be random if it let you pick which squad you wanted to join.

there is voice chat for communication with your squad.  (a lot dont seem to use it though)

the more you play the less confusing it is.  like almost any other game.

i'd say ps2 has a bigger lering curve.  but not a very steep one if you've played bf3.  just keep playing and it will get less confusing.
