Unfortunately for me, the image of " what my mom thinks " is also what my wife thinks :-(
That image of what guys think is priceless btw, how sweet would that be.
In my little town local community gamers do not disclose that they are gamers, my wife hates it so bad she has got me paranoid that she has convinced everyone I know or that knows me that everyone is looking at me with a " what my mom thinks" perspective.
So as a result I can never get into a game and I don't fit in locally either. Makes for a pretty lonely place anywhere and everywhere I might be. I have played GW2 since launch I have literally talked to no more than 6 people total.
The sad truth is that there is a stigma with being labled a gamer.. As you said in your last post, it can be considered an addiction.. And any name associated with addictions become negative fanfare.. People addicted to crack become 'crackheads' and from there on anyone that at least LOOK the part are simply labled crackheads as in a negative term to describe their looks, personality or living conditions in a mostly harmful way..
When you are considered a gamer or addicted to video games, you are labled a nerd or geek or basement dweller.
Even stranger is that it seems that it is becoming much more acceptable to proclaim your homosexuality than it is to call yourself a gamer, somehow they both seem to have the same undesired effect on your social and sex lives..
You say you play video games and you are immediately seen as a failure with no life.. Do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars.. Go straight to loserville..
I am also your everyday gamer. I got six packs, i am married to a very beautiful woman, i have a very active social life and i love going to pubs and bars with friends. But i a lso lie to spend days closed in my room doing nothing but playing video games.
