The Bartle's classification is the better and known way of to characterize the types os mmo players. There is 4 types of players: achievers, explorers, socializers and killers. The link below has a test to you know your type:

http://www.gamerdna.com/quizzes/bartle-test-of-gamer-psychology

My results:   killer (113%), socializer (100%), explorer (80%), achiever (7%)

I remember doing that test and I wasn't happy with any of the choices in over half of those questions. So what am I then?

Every time I take the test I consistently score 100%+ as an Explorer.

Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!

Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!

I should have done a poll...

I think that explorers and mainly achievers tend to prefer themeparks with single-player like experience, while socializers and mainly killers tend to prefer sandboxes with "realistic" people interactions and total entanglement between people actions and the enviroment.

I'm stuck one the first question.

    Would you rather:

    • Know more secrets than your friends?
    • Become a hero faster than your friends?
First of all, I'm not interested in competing with my friends.  Second, I don't care about knowing secrets (what does that even mean?) or becoming a hero (what does that even mean?)  I've tried to take this test before, but a lot of the questions are like this.  I just can't choose between two answers that both sound stupid to me.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

In old schools mmos (like UO) you could discover "secret" locations, rare mobs or treasures. In L2 you could become a hero in the server.

Bluh, there were so many questions where I disliked both answers... -_-  I like accomplishing goals and solving puzzles, but I don't care whether anyone else does those things faster, slower, or at all.  I like to investigate and experiment, but I'm not interested in plain geographical exploration because terrain isn't meaningful unless there is story attached to it.  And I'll avoid experimenting if it's not cost-efficient or the knowledge that can be gained seems unlikely to be useful.  I really like collecting, set-completion, and cleaning up disorderly things like monsters and quests and debris on my personal property within the game.  I really like tactical combat but I also like arcade/brawler-style combat.  I like being powerful in the sense of being able to do a wide variety of things that can be creatively combined to accomplish clever and surprising things, but I don't really care about getting to a high level or raw destructive power.
I want to help design and develop a PvE-focused, solo-friendly, sandpark MMO which combines crafting, monster hunting, and story.  So PM me if you are starting one.

Questions felt weird to me to but I took the test and got "Achiever."  Methinks it should have said "Over Achiever."

    I got  80% explorer, 57% socialize, 40% Achiever and 40% killer.

  • LissylLissyl Member UncommonPosts: 271

An awful lot of these questions are two choices I don't want either of.  It's kind of lame.

That said: 87 Explorer 60 Socializer (WHAT?!?  I literally have NO friends whatsoever in-game) 47 achiever 7 killer.

  • 123443211234123443211234 Member UncommonPosts: 244

    93% Killer  40% Achiever 33% Socializer 33% Explorer

Probably why I liked and still like Darkfall so much and really just can't get that rush of excitement from any other game I try.

Also, gotta agree with Lissyl above me that there were several questions where I really didn't like either of the choices.
