Well you had to know they were going to tire of the nonsense eventually. Threads only real purpose to was to let the natives vent their frustration, not much productive was going to come out of it.
ArenaNet doesn't have a habit of "letting the natives vent their frustration". As another poster pointed out, they hand out infractions for absolutely everything. They're forum Nazis and it's way outta hand. Makes it hard to have discussions sometimes and/or form communities because you never know what could be considered an infraction in their eyes. I think they let the thread continue because they wanted to see the response (and the thread was heavily moderated). But it's too late for them to take the gear out of the game at this point. For most players though, the Ascended gear wasn't the only issue we had. Many players had other problems and that was just the last straw basically.
I'm not afraid to tell trolls what they [need] to hear, even if that means for me to have an forced absence afterwards.
P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)
Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.
Dont you wish Anet had a sub so you could "unsub" in protest? Oh wait. Yet again arnt you playing for "free" now that you have bought the game? Your playing for free but trying to tell Anet how to run their game? Dont you now wish you were paying a sub so you had some control over he developer? Free things are better arnt they?
Remember, these are the same people with 200+ hours invested... but of course its not like it cost them money to play those hours lol.
I swear, its so funny to see people get exactly what they ask for then complain about it.
No one asked for a gear grind so I think you're seeing things.
ANet said they'd do one thing then did the opposite. Whether the game is free (which it isn't, we paid money for it and the service is included in the box price) or not isn't important. They lied, that's all there is to it.
The fact they don't even have the decency to apologise for wasting everyone's money is what's frustrating everyone.
Dont include me in your "everyone" I have no problem with what they are doing. /Cheers.
I was referring to the people that are frustrated, i.e. the people the post I was responding to was making crap up about.

I think it would be appropriate if the people asking for the refunds got this:
A charge back to their account. Then a dollar deducted from their account for every hour played (extremely cheap entertainment rate, they are getting a bargain). If that went past 60, they would continue to have a dollar deducted per hour.
Played 200 hours and request a refund? Sure, here is your refund, but after the dollar an hour charge you are out 140. Thats what you get for asking for a fraudulent refund for a product you got significantly more than fair money's worth out of.
It appears that most of the people who had an opinion about the issue have already voiced their thoughts.
The debate in this thread is becoming quite circular and the discussion has now run its course.
As such, we’re going to close this thread.
Please refer to the message from our Studio Design Director, Chris Whiteside, for our response to concerns about this issue.
Thank you all for your feedback and participation. We appreciate you sharing your thoughts with us.
Very last page of the thread.
But, hey, we all know Anet doesn't care.
Glad I wasn't the only one who saw a response because I was really confused. OP says they didn't given an explination and then I see one right there at the bottom. Weird.......
Seriously? The link in there is a week old post from Chris Whiteside. That message was one of the reasons why so many players were so worried. First it was the blog and then this lame 'explanation' came that didn't actually explain anything and that is what caused this thread to go really fast. Everyone in that thread already knew about that post. It is what got them really worried in the first place ><
The bigger issue here is Nexon. We have now all seen how Nexon is going to influence the game and its not pretty. Even the Anet guys knows this stinks - their inside joke (the under new mgmt sign in the Lost Shores for example) tells its own story. I doubt they have full control of the franchise at this point.
Can someone elborate on this? What influence does Nexon have on GW2? I know nothing about Nexon.
Then, a longtime Nexon employee was hired as the Monetization Producer for ANet. She has a 'reputation'. She apparently 'destroyed' MapleStory by altering it's cash shop in some unabashedly greedy manner.
I'm actually ashamed to admit that i was not one of the forum posters on GW2's official forums getting banned. It seems that even though i can log onto the game and the site, i get an error anytime i have ever tried to log into thier forums. I had to contact support through direct email, and they even mentioned im not the only person with this problem and that its an issue on thier end and to try back later. It seems that player feedback on thier official forum isnt a big enough priority to bother fixing for those of us who cant.
Anet: we need the money to keep earning a salary as the one time fee we got from you has been spend!
Player: That's... to bad.
Anet: But we already invested the money in making the expansion.
Player: I already finished with your game... Tossers!
Karma is a bitch, just ask SOE.
Personally, I am playing GW2 quite happily but as a throwaway MMORPG, fun while it lasts but I know this game isn't going to last for me until the next big game to be released. Exploring the world, doing fun events and not worrying about gear or stats.
But I also am not buying gems and an expansion that just brings more of the same won't be bought by me. And then that original purchase will start to become not a profit but a loss to Anet and I will say unto them: That's... to bad.

You might stick to your conviction, but most won't. When the next expansion comes most of the people complaining will buy it anyways, they'll still get several million in sales, even without you.

Nexon is the worst disease that could happen, if they get the chance to fully implement their policies in the financial area of the game. They have destroyed many good games with their ideas about how cash shops should be. For example, in Atlantica Online you pay 30 bucks per month just for the basic stuff and about 100 bucks more for any new cash shop item you want - very powerful items and conveniences, which act with full power in pvp also. Be happy that this did not reach GW2 yet and enjoy it while you still can. Trust me, when you see Nexon, run like hell.
I don't blame Anet for closing down the threads, with the amount of whining going on why should thay take it? There is difference between feedback and trolling/bitching.

Having no problem with it isn't the same as asking it.
Most people asking about gear progression still won't play GW2 for other reasons.
Most players actively playing GW2 were fine with exotic items and had no need for ascended.
Some of them don't care, others don't like it.
Around know I should be buying some €10-20 in gems as I've been doing since release every month (except for the first since I had €20 of gems from the betas).
And did the ascended items increased players in the game?
I saw the spike of players in the weekend, due to the event and trial, but that was the same as the spike in players during halloween.
Events and content draw players in, gear tiers, not so much.
And who is going to spend money for gems to buy items when those items might be merchant fodder in the next patch?

Hey, it turns out that the mega-thread was "accidentally" deleted in a "merge" and that AN would never deliberately delete feedback from their valued players. They even started a new thread for more exciting feedback that they value.
So put away the pitchforks and don't set fire to ArenaNet. It was just a mistake. Really.
(I swear that the "we wuz forced to do it" theory, while ridiculous by normal standards, has some traction in my mind. Either AN's been taken over by the Evil Twin, or a replacement snuck in who's clueless, like a Xena to Joxer switch. A very strange situation is unfolding.)

Hey all, due to a glitch in our forum software, when merging two threads, the original Feedback Thread was lost to the ether. It is not our intention to remove threads with legitimate player feedback. We value what you have to say, both positive and negative (as long as it is said in a polite and respectful manner).
That said, please use this thread for your general feedback. This thread will remain stickied for ease of posting and viewing.
Again, please accept our apologies on the loss of the previous thread.
I have to admit, I'm not feeling like the official response is the whole truth. The thread is plainly still in existence. Are they really trying to tell us that once a thread is locked, that's it? There's no way for their forum software to unlock a thread? PR spin some more?
Edit: I think I misunderstood. It looks like they had a sticky thread that they deleted and restarted, not related to the merged "feedback thread".
Hah, not only are they closing threads they are sending out temp bans without any explanation. I got one last night. No mention of what I did or where I did it. I have a grand total of two infractions since launch, the most recent of which was doing a "Lol" reply from quoting the word "dungs". I guess they are anti-poop? I dunno, pretty weak. I haven't known many companies to ban over the word "dung".

Yeah seriousey!! As I stated.... OP said there wasn't anything and there was. Just because the explination wasn't clear enouhg for your liking doesn't mean it wasn't one. Afte reading some of the last few pages of the thread I can clearly see why it was stopped. Some peoples senses of entitlement are rediculous around here. I felt it stated enough that it told people they felt they had reason enough to stop it without telling people how much they sound like whiney B*@%hes. There is a difference between criticism and whining and I bet I know what side Anet felt that discussion had fallen under.
I am not here defending the explination itself mind you, only that the OP claims were false and I felt he over dramatized the hell out of it because he was somehow butt-hurt and needed to post it on another site. I am one of those people that don't feel I need a full explination and briefing before, during, and after a move is made by Anet. I play the damned game and If I like I continue... If I don't I stop playing and move on.... and if given a chance to give honest feedback IE the surveys they send out, I will do so. Other than that I don't feel Anet ows me anything. If they want my business then they have to put out something I like in the future as well as now. If they cater to every person who whines about a feature then I can gaurantee you I won't buy an expansion. So far the changes made havn't upset me enough to stop playing.
To those claiming Anet doesn't give a rats ass because they are B2P and already have your money, it's no different in this regard because Sub games do the same thing when they take the initial $60 and you get a product not worth the free month. Anet wants continued support and they are going to do what they feel will keep their game relevant. If I don't like the changes I can stop at any point and try it again later.
What can I say? Anet has decided in their infinite "wisdom" that this is The Vision(tm), and thus must it be... If you've ever had to deal with successful Dev's, you would know the god complex and tunnel vision they have. As long as the Anet fan kiddies keep telling them what they want to hear, I doubt they are going to change.
