I was confused by this....? It's "free"? What do you mean? Doesn't it come with the standard $49.99 tag + monthly sub fees?

I'm also curious about this game - though I'll admit I'm not usually big into FPS - loved the original Halo but haven't played much else since.... that was moons ago as you all know lol.

I'd think about picking this up - but didn't want to waste the money on it either.

I'll go back and read the rest of this thread but you guys are obviously enjoying yourselves?

It's a free game. It has a cash shop and you can buy a "premium sub".

Oh really? I did not know that - thank you.... and.... I assume no sub fee either?

If so that's really excellent and bravo to Sony for doing something like that. I know it has a cash stop and I'll happily "buy" items there if I really like the game but I didn't want to shell out $50 + for it without at least taking it for a spin.

Appreciate your reply - maybe I'll see you guys in game :)

No sub fee. You can however get a "premium" sub, but again its not obligated to play the game. Which I'm not sure what you get, but maybe I will get it later on.

But do try the game. It's very very good!

Thank you again for your feedback - I'm going to go give this a try as soon as I get home from work :) I'm actually pretty excited to play this after doing a bit of research this morning and since it's just released I won't fall too far behind on the 8 ball.

Normally I don't really like FPS games but this one seems to have gotten a lot of really great reviews. I don't know if this is the right thread to discuss it but can you please give me the 2 minute version on what this offers over other FPS games like Halo, BF3, etc? It might be obvious but honestly I haven't followed this game much at all - I have been taking a gaming break recently and just saw it was released so I wanted to take a more closer look (which turned out to be a very nice surprise based on other people's feedback).

Persistent never ending warfare in an open world. It's not against a clock, there's no match making, just 1 constant ever going server battle.

If you've played gw2 you will get the idea, but its much much bigger than WvW and doesn't reset due to server matching reshuffles.

Well at least for me I have a long background with fps games. One of my favorates of all time was BF2. Mainly because the gameplay was super tight and the battles were pretty big(64v64). For me PS2 feels like the evolution of BF2. One key difference in PS2 is that it's a HUGE map with 3 factions going at it. So it's very different format from the standard shooter because there isn't set matches or rounds that go up to a certain point and the match is done. It's an ongoing battle. What they have managed to do a good job at though is making sure to let you know where the action is going on, because in a big map there are huge possibilities of getting lost. This doesn't happen in a game like BF2 because you are confined to a specific map.

Just like BF2 and ARMA it's a different type of fps from Halo and CoD. Halo and CoD are more action fast paced corridor shooters that revolve around super fast reflexes. PS2 is more about tactics, teamplay and map control. It also has vehicles which play a vital role. These type of shooters are best played with friends btw, unlike Halo type of shooters which are way more solo firendly.

In short, PS2 provides some VERY epic fights against hundreds of players at the same time. It's got a bigger scope than the current versions we have of those games(BF2, BF3, Arma) and it's got some very good shooter mechanics. I was also amaized at how smooth it runs considering the amount of things that were going on onscreen. Anyways, I strongly suggest you try it out with friends. It's one of those shooters were a team of buddies really helps and adds to those strong memories you will have for the rest of your life!

Yeah get a good outfit (guild)

Another point is you don't have to fight everyone at the same spot, you can wander off and have some small scale encounters or just practice flying a gunship in a safer area of the continent. Also there are 3 continents, you can switch to one of the other 2.

You guys are great! Cheers for the info.

I'll have to find a new server and decide on a faction. In the meantime i'll research the classes (or whatever they're called here) and figure out how I want to play. I usually play a healer type class in games like this so I'll gravitate to whatever they have available in this game - probably some medic class I suspect.

I may have more questions later once I figure out what I'm doing :)

You need a decent CPU to play, you don't need a decent GPU to play. If you run into problems, hard-disable shadows in the .ini file, will speed the game up on even the oldest rigs and give you combat advantage since its easier to spot hostiles.

The game is worth installing and worth playing. If you like it just a bit keep it and play occassionally. Skill points (certs) build up over time even IF YOU'RE OFFLINE!. Slow, but you'd be able to outfit a new role every 2 months or so (one hour offline yields one cert) if you don't play at all.

So plainly put. It's an AAA MMO-shooter where you can be useful from hour #1. Yes, worth playing and trying since no obligations whatsoever.
