Considering you're age, length of time in the MMO business, and the quality of the games you used to put out, I am very surprised at the quality of this game. You have done a good job in turning around my opinion of free to play, and my opinion of your ability to create high quality games. Everquest 2 was a diabolical mess in my opinion and still is, but I now have renewed hope for Everquest Next - maybe it's a one shot wonder you have with planetside, or perhaps you're going to take on board the lessons you've learned and the responses we've supplied you with.
But well done, well done.
Now to the point of the thread - anyone else feeling like SOE might finally be "getting it"?. So long as there is never any play to win involved in the cash shop of planetside, and so long as there is always people to play with, I see planetside being something I constantly log into day in day out. I did so with Battlefield Bad Company 2, so shall I with this, because in all honesty the game play of the two feel so alike, and that ladies and gentleman in my opinion is an amazing thing.

Enerzeal, meet "can of worms".
Good luck with this thread...
While its not everyones cup of earl grey, it is a very solid game with very well thought out features and gameplay. Its 'core' combat feels incredibly good and the cash shop is non intrusive in the slightest. The 'metagame' and progression is a bit shallow at this point, but if they implement some of the ideas they have been talking about it will go a ways to fix and flesh these issues out.
SOE is onto a winner with PS2 if they keep up the support and development of this game.
I agree the game is VERY unoptimized, however the game has one of the best implementations of the f2p model, much like Tribes Ascend. Would you prefer to pay for convenience or paying for a gun that can only be acquired with real money? What makes you think the game is filled with twelve year olds? With the kind of rig it takes to run this game I would wager that there are very few twelve year olds that are capable of actually playing.
Agree with Krashner. I would call it pay for convenience mmofps. And all the 12 year olds are playing call of duty and halo on consoles.
Rule #1 of Cash Shops: Don't let your players know they are losing because of it.
If that doesn't get through to you, then nothing will.
EQ1 was sony (which is pretty obvious when one of the main cities is Sony EQ backwards). SoE didnt exist at the time, but Smedley was a Sony employee and hired McQuaid and the rest of the team. There was a period of about a year where Verant wasnt technically owned by Sony, but it was still the people Sony hired working closely with Sony.
People calling this pay 2 win are complete idiots and should feel bad.
Edit: Yeah, saying that is worth a warning or temp ban. I'm not going to feel bad about calling out people who are totally ignorant.
Didn't you know... aimbots ain't free. :P
Can't speak for the first one but i think most of the "tweleve year olds" are two or three times as old... IN fact some of the most immature gamers i have met have been 25+. You see kids can be reasoned with... 25+ "children" can not.
This have been a good conversation
So true
Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy
this is pay-to-get-your-personal-preference-before-people-without-money-do-even-though-everyone-will-still-be-able-to-kill-you-as-easy.
nuffing more to be said. People who talk about pay-to-win can go find and fire to lie in.

I agree in large,(if not all), with your post.
I pose this question, (for myself as well as anyone else).
Is it this game, or, the evollution to FPS, from a host of RPG's which by their very nature(genre), must follow similar paths,
which is a breath of fresh air?
In other words, less so called cookie cutter, due to the sheer nature of FPS.
Not slamming any RPG, just saying even the finest dish become somewhat stale after continual digestion, of said meal.
