The starter zones are a bit far from eachother alho it is possible to go and play with eathother..

Problem is that you don''t wanne get killed while you doing the trip from the starter area to the other one..

There are no restrictions concerning to play with eathother.. even in UW every race is allowed to enter any starter or Race town..

    this wasn''t possible in 1.0..

Game is player driven.. which means the poltics ingame ( your so called factions) will be determined by the players itself with clans and alliances..

Most fun you will get is to join a decent clan..

Races don't matter for anything in DF:UW other than looks.  You will start in different places but meeting up and then binding to a city together is very easy.

    2. Is there a limit no how many structures you can hold and how many clan members you can have?

    3. If the map is not forever going how big is it?

    4. How much is the game going to cost? I can't seem to find the answer to this. I mean base price for the actual game... not the monthly fee.

. The world's cities are in pre placed locations and their design is pre determined. Unfortunately DF doesn't have the feature of open world building. The DF1 world was the largest world of any MMO I've played. That being said it was too large and the developers scaled it down some for the new game. However if I remember correctly there were 104 total player holdings in DF1. This number will definitely be different for DF:UW but there is bound to be a lot of variety. One clan could theoretically own every holding in the game. And I don't know if there will be a cap on clan members for the new game. Not sure of there was in the old game. Not sure on price foe the new game as AV hasn't officially announced anything. Tasos said they are hoping to bring pre ordering online this week in the interview last week...so here's to hoping!

    Thanks for the answers.

I read somewhere that it took 8 hours to go across the entire map in Darkfall. Is that true and have they said if the map will be bigger, smaller, or the same size? also what are the skills like? Is the skill system kind of like Runescape?

The time it took to travel the map is kind of subjective.  If you ran from the bottom left corner to the top right corner in a straight line (the longest possible straight line distance) it probably would take that long since you'd be swimming and constantly moving around obstacles like mountains, trees, rocks, bushes, mobs, etc.

That being said, nobody every did that.  If you had to go any long distance by foot you'd be on a mount which would cut that time from 8 hours to about 2.  There would never be a reason to travel from one corner to the other though.  In 3 years the longest trek I ever made when I was a noobie took me about 1.5 hours I think.

The new world will be smaller.  They are removing a lot of the unused water masses and reducing the continent sizes by a little bit.  The original game was WAY too big even for 10,000 concurrent people.

Read my next post for the answer to your question about skills since the guy below you asked also.

10,000 concurrent? Seems kind of low to me, but that could always change considering people are at a vulnerable point with MMOs. What I meant by skills was like Woodcutting, Cooking, fishing, Runecrafting, etc etc etc. Not like attack skills, but more like professions is what I meant. The examples are fomr Runescape... I don't expect this game to have Runecrafting lol

Technically the servers can hold 10,000 players...but nobody has ever seen it hold that many and be stable.  For a game like Darkfall 10,000 is such a massive amount of people it's quite impossible to imagine actually.

I never played runescape so sorry I didn't know what you meant.  In Darkfall there are professions, profession masteries, and gathering type skills.  All you standard ones like armorsmithing, enchanting, weaponsmithing, tailoring,etc...they're all there.  Then you have masteries which allow you to make high end weapons/armor/etc.  In the UI presentation video for DF:UW you can see some of the new professions as well as some of the old ones.

    does that answer your question?

i think at release it held that if not more

My statement wasn't that it has never had that many people on it.  My statement was it's never had that many people and been stable.  We'll see how the new client handles massive people like that.

    Hi.

I wanted to ask you if spells such as "Blind" or "Tornado" or "Wall of Force (in DFO)" are/were only PVP spells that could work only against other players or do they work for PVE also?

So for example could you trap a dragon with WOF or do you think you'll be able to push back a gollem with the tornado spell and then blind it in DF:UW?

    Thanks.

You will have 2 roles active at any time. Every role has 5 abilities.  These consist of 4 skills and 1 ultimate skill. You get 5 abilities from your main role and 4 abilities from you secondary role (no secondary ultimate ability).

There will also be a pool of abilities that everyone will be able to use at any time.  Some of these are depicted in the UI video.  These abilities will probably be fairly consistent with DF1 in that they consist of your transfer spells (stamina to health, mana to stamina, and health to mana), heals, utilities, disabling blows, and others.

Wasn't there a video or a post stating that players had access to 16 abilities?

    Never seen such post.

I dont think it can only be 16. You get 9 from the roles you choose and then you have all the other basic abilities/spells avaliable to everyone.

In DF1 lesser magic had 14 spells, so if we assume that everyone will have access to those, we are already way above 20.

Im guessing that atleast some of the greater magic school spells will also be avaliable to everyone.

Now add melee-archery basic skills to all these and do the math...

Those spells only affected players.  I'm sure it will be the same in DF:UW since there would be too many ways to exploit a mob if you could wof it in place (that is, if wof exists in the new game).

Your clan will be allowed to be hired as a group of mercenaries to help other alliances with sieges.  These permissions are to accept/decline these contracts (the contracts will be for gold).

Sub in DF1 was $15 a month for 2.5 years, then decreased to $10 a month for the last few months, then was free for the last couple.

I'd imagine it will be between $10-15...no reason to go anymore or less.

It appears you have access to more than 16 skills, but only 16 skills slots at any one moment.

i think $5 is perfect. I stayed on Runescape for so long jsut becuase of the $5, I assume that more people would also be willing to try, and that people who only play a couple of times a month will be more inclined to continue their subscription.

I've read sometihng about 3 classes. Are there only 3 classes or are these 3 new classes? Also whata re the races? I read 8, but never saw what they were.

If the game is great, 15 dollars shouldn't matter to anyone.

When you are killed you go into a "downed" state where you lay unable to do anything.  There is a 2 minute timer that runs.  During this time you can be ganked or revived.

In DF1 at the end of your 2 minute timer you died and went back to your bindstone.  In DF:UW it was announced some time ago that when your timer runs out you now auto-revive instead of dying.  This however hasn't been confirmed in the recent past.

Runescape was also a browser based game with far far far far far far less work put into it then a game like DF.

There are 4 classes but only 3 of them will be in the game at launch.  The elementalist (mage), the warrior (melee), and the skirmisher (archery).  The old game did not have classes so yes these are new.  There is a ton of information on them in earlier pages of this thread and in other threads.  Also lots of videos to watch.

The races are Alfar (dark elves), Mirdain (elves), Mahirim (wolf people), Torvar (dwarves), Orks (duh), Humans (duh). 6 total.

    Hello Indef!

I'm going to tell you my pedigree.

If you could, tell me if I should play Darkfall: Unholy Wars.

I did not play UO or EQ.  I played an Og Mage in AC for 1.5 years and played 1 carebear AC server for an equal length of time, both  mains were level 80+ (DT 100+).

I played DAOC:  Andred, Mordred, Gaheris, Lancelot:  Healer or tank.

I played FFXI:  Healer only White Mage/Bard

I played AoC:  Guardian: Level 80

I played Rift:  Level 50 something, I can't even remember, that's how memorable it was.

I played EQ2:  Another Guardian, level 39, quit in the middle of nerfs.

I played WoW:  Too many characters to remember, cartoon boredom never let me hit past 45.

Trifled in: Eve, Anarchy Online, Horizons, AC2, D&D Online, TERA.

I love PvE grind and free for all PvP.  As in, I like someone being able to gank me while raiding.  I like sandbox.  I hate themepark, but I am not 100% attached to picking fruit trees for food either:  I just like some gank and spank on occasion.

    Is this game for me?

@gamesrfun - yep, definitely sounds like it.  It's very viable to casually pve in darkfall and be looking over your shoulder ready to defend yourself.  Conversely, you can also roam around solo even to some of the pve farming spots and hide in a bush, waiting for a good moment to jump a person or 2-3 depending on the situation.

From there, normal gameplay just scales up in numbers, and involves more territory control.

P.S this is a good DFO video to give you some feel of siege combat.

    Hi RexTerra,

The part of your post I underlinded answers your question.  This is exactly what DF:UW is.  It is not a themepark panda filled candy land with fairies and unicorns.  It's a hard game where you can be someones prey at any second.  There were MANY hardcore PvE'rs in DF1 that became huge influences in the economy of the game.  There are many benefits to being rich in Darkfall and being a hardcore PvE grinder will give you huge advantages in the long run (makes gear more easily attainable, you can buy a house and teleport there for travel and pvp purposes, you can level crafting professions and be self sufficient, etc.).

This game was made for you my friend.
