Why gamble on EU when you can go to a casino?

daveospicedaveospice Member UncommonPosts: 366

I was just looking at everyone's "statistics"  Basically you lose 10% of what you put in.  Some people hit it big, and stay going for awhile before they lose it, but on average 10% is what people figure you lose...

So why not just go to a casino?  I do the same thing at the casino.  I win 100 bucks, that allows me to play for a long time, but I eventually end up losing it and a little bit of what I brought and I decide "that's enough".  lol

Because playing MMOs is a more fun way to lose your money instead of Blackjack?

Why play sub fee or item mall MMOs? You're bound to lose 100% of the cash you've spent. EU gives much better return rates.

But at a casino you get free beer.  Also, this game is seriously lacking content.  The only two things to do in the game are mine or hunt and crafting is only for the rich.

There really is a simple forumula to always make money in EU. Invest 10 dollars. Kill creatures your skill level until you can move on to a more powerful one. Collect parts in mass. Sell it at 102 percent. You always make enough to pay off the repair bill and the ammo. Always use a rifle if you can. So far i make about 30 ped a day on basic material sells on the auction. Mind you I have had a lot of experience with sales.

The 90% return is in Trade Terminal Value, the trick is to get the other 10% in MarkUp.

Did a test and I'm at a 95% MarkUp return right now and so far it is slowely growing. The mistake most people make is to go on 1 hunt and say they loose a lot of money.

Stay within your skills and calculate on a large amount of mobs (at least 1000) and you will get to that 90% TT and close to 100% MU and every nice global will be toe iceing on the cake.

So your plentiful experience in sales let's you make 3 dollars a day.

In other words, I could make in one workday of eight hours, what it would take you nearly 20 days to earn, so long as I earn no more than minumum wage.

    Interesting.

While how smart you are with the market makes a lot of difference, if your focus is on hunting you can forget about making a steady return with the start stuff that you get - you will never that get the returns of the big boys who have the significantly more efficient weaps like mk5, imp mk2 or mod merc.

EU used to be a decent f2p game because there was not as much f2p around and you can make some $$ off it if you are already geared, but now it is crap because there are som many better f2p games. You probably get more excitement from some other mmo-shooter-rpg like Firefall or Planetside 2 for a much less long term cost, much less gear discrepancies between the rich and the poor and much better gameplay.

EU used to be a game that you can thrive if you r more business minded, now it is just a casino (because loots has been nerfed so many times, and land ownership means the small boys are pretty much playing for the big boy's gaming).

I only play a hour at most. 30 peds is pretty damned good all considering. The fact I make less then I would in a minimum wage job is pretty meaningless considering Im playing the game for entertainment. The fact it actually pays to play and I enjoy it, thats a bonus.

Not many do pay.  When I last checked there were also crippling fees to withdraw money from the game, as well as a maximum amount that could be taken out at once to ensure the fees hit you repeatedly for larger amounts of money taken out.

Also, as in many "free to play" titles, the ability to spend more than 15 dollars per month can be dangerous to a persons financial security.

The game is akin to inserting your credit card into a slot machine and pulling the lever until bankruptcy.  For those that are lucky, well they make 3 dollars for 'playing' the game all day, which is of course before fees apply.

Edit: I also want to touch on the point others have made regarding starting new.  While yes you do have crappy skills and weapons at the start, you do improve skills over time and can buy better armor and weapons over time too.  The thing is, it doesn't matter.  The better the gun, the better the armor, the more it costs to repair, reload, and such.  Sure, the loot you get from hunting higher level monsters on average is worth more than the starter monsters, but the costs associated with hunting them scale up as well.

If all those "always" were true the game would have closed down years ago.

From the replies here it looks like the fat cats are out on the prowl for some new blood to feed money up to them.

At what point did the distinction between "working at a job" and "playing a game" escape you?

EU is one of those games where you can tell immediately what someone's perception of it is just by the nature of their remarks/complaints.

You go to a job to work. You do the tasks required of you, and that's it. You get your hourly/salaried wage, maybe a nice bonus once in a while, or even a raise.  But that's it. Your income is determined by someone else... and you have to work for it. It's not entertainment. It's not recreation. It's a job. You don't get to choose whether or not you feel like working the hours your boss has scheduled you - not if you want to get paid and/or remain employed.

Conversely, you play EU for entertainment, to hang out with friends, to go hunting, mining, adventuring, crafting... whatever you feel like doing... because it's fun. And along the way, there's the possibility of getting a nice windfall in the form of a nice HOF drop. And you do it all voluntarily, on your own time, at your own discretion. You log in when you feel like logging in. You log out when you feel like logging out.

I can't comprehend how someone could possibly draw a similarity between a job and playing a MMO... unless, of course, they approach the game like a job (which it seems many do).

Other than that, it's both sad and funny to see people crying foul (or "victim" in some cases) over some oh-so-terrible experience they (voluntarily) had when they (voluntarily chose to) play EU and (voluntarily) sink money into it. It's like these people who eat out at fast food joints every day, and then want to sue when they get sick or obese from it. It's nothing but people not accepting personal responsibility for their own actions. They do whatever they want without regard of whether it's wise or not, or what the possible consequences might be.  Then they cry "victim" and blame someone/something else when they don't like the outcome.

When I started playing EU, I did so as an informed customer. I know exactly what the game is about. I know exactly how it works. They don't even try to hide it. There's plenty of information out there on how it works. There are guides on how to start out as a newbie with little or no investment. There are guides on "economical hunting" giving tips and insight on how to choose weapons and ammo wisely, how to choose targets wisely, to get the best bang for the buck (or PED in this case).

The info is out there. If people jump in and just figure "oh, I'll just throw a bunch of money at this and it'll make me rich", then that's their ignorance at work. Not some devious plot by the game. For crying out loud, even the strongest proponents of the game will tell you not to go in expecting to make a lot of money from it, but to approach it as any other game or hobby.

And if people have done their research, decide to play it anyway, and find that they didn't enjoy it? Fine! There's no guarantee that anyone will! It's like anything else in life. You try it, you find you don't like it, you walk away and do something else. There's no crime in that.

What amazes me about the whole thing is:

In pretty much any other MMO (that I'm aware of anyway), you have zero chance to get back any of your money back AT ALL. You spend the money, and it's gone. All of it. Poof.  People are perfectly accepting of this.

Yet, in EU, you have the chance to make back some of what you've voluntarily spent. You may break even. You may even earn back above and beyond what you've spent... something that's impossible in most any other MMO (without going outside their TOS). Let's say you deposit $30 into EU over your time playing it but don't spend it. You take a break and come back 6 months later. Guess what? That $30 is still there, just as you left it. You can spend it. You can withdraw it and get it put back in your own bank account. No other MMO offers this. And yet, people cry foul over it, calling it a scam, or "gambling" or who knows what else, simply because they don't like the game, or because they went in thinking they were going to turn the game into a business, and found it didn't work that way, or who knows what other reasons.

Does anyone else see the utter absurdity in that?

  • KnightFalzKnightFalz Member EpicPosts: 4,582
It's a game and should be viewed as such.

So long as you're having fun playing it whatever monetary return you get is icing on the cake. If you aren't having fun the return won't make up for the time spent to get it and you're better off playing something else you do enjoy.

I always felt Entropa Universe was the spiritual founder for what came after like SoA's land)/ house (and blood) pre-sales for cash, crowd-funding and up on through this latest crypto gaming insanity.

While it might be true that intelligent trading and investing can lead to profits, just like in the real world most can't be bothered or lack the necessary skills or intelligence so for them, it's really more of a gamble than investment.

Real investments are well regulated and scrutinized by governing bodies, land sales in Entropa or Crypto gaming, not so much and suffer from a much greater potential for fraud to occur.

(See the hilarious crash of the cryptocurrency grift)

Edit, come to think of it, even the Casino industry has more oversight than crypto  gaming land sales.

I am surprised EU is even a thing...One of the most boring games I ever played....Way too much of the time was just "sweating" mobs which was boring as heck....A few people had ammo but not the free players...It always felt like a scam to me.
