I'm part of the "I played EQ 1 hard core group" who thought EQII was the biggest POS when it first came out. The collosal let down was unprecedented (except for maybe UO:LBR :P). I just felt that SOE was so far out of step with their players and the game was so beta when it was launched that I couldn't believe they had spent however many millions making the game.
My question is to players that may have been as pissed as me and left, then came back; not really to the fanbois who have been playing all along:
Theres a core group out there that 'knows what I mean' when I say this game is (?was?) missing something major.
My question is has SOE done anything in the last 2-3 months that would truly warrant a 2nd look at this game or is it all just fluff to implement features that WoW had out of the box? I see they've made a lot more solo quests and added some mailboxes....they've continued on with there pay-to-play expansion packs....
I'd like to give these guys the benefit of the doubt but I'm wondering if there's anyone left at SOE who has any inkling on how to make a MMO.
Please advise ...ty.

I tried EQ2 once and i was as disappointed as you are. I sort of still am, although not with the game entirely but more with parts of it. The thing is, some part of EQ2 is very disappointing to me, but others are really great. So far the good part overweight the bad part.
What imo are bad parts of EQ2?:
- questing - very linear, unimaginative, hard to complete if you have to return to a specific NPC becuase I can never remember where that NPC is, and quest log rarely gives me a clue where to find that person, besides the general zone.
- navigation - its not as horrible as questing, but still hard to do, u cant view maps outside of your zone, so you cant plan your trip ahead, absicaly if you need to go to a zone that is not adjacent to yours, you sort of go in blindly, which often results in long and annoying running.
- user friendliness - EQ2 is lacking on this one too. Starting players will have trouble once they leave islae of refuge, bags change locations when u log off, New chat windows disappear, double-clicking on lets say doors or marine bell doesnt always trigger a reaction, etc. Most of those are minor and at best inconvenient.
What imo are great arts of EQ2?:
- graphics - aside character models who look like plastic dolls, EQ2 graphics are stunning, breathtaking and in other words amazing. Textures are fantastic, ambient world is fantastic.
- sound - great, music is un-intrucive, sound of NPCs is also a good plus, mobs saying things randomly is great addon to my gameplay.
- gameplay - this is where EQ2 trully shines, group gameplay. With heroic opportunities EQ2 stands out of all games currently on the market. Although I would love to see more skills just like WoW has, but still,I love group playsyle a LOT. So much that i simply ignore ll the bad parts and concentrate on the gameplay entirely. A good guild should help you get great fun and joy playing EQ2.
Im not sure what went wrong with your experience, you didnt provide any details what u liked/disliked about this game, but if your opinion is close to mine, I suggest to do what I did, starting with level 10-12 skip the bad part, minimize your trips to cities, make a list of all your quests on paper and sort them out by destination, not by source like in a journal and group group group - becuase thats where all the fun is!

I've looked over some recent patch notes and I really like some of the imprvements. I'm too lazy to list them here but I'm sure you know where to find them. I agree with the quoted post. I would figure these things could possible be implemented in 3-6 months. The other thing I can't freakin stand is that online market. Especially in a game like EQ2 where tradeskills and the whole item enviroment itself is so extensive.
When these things change, I'll be back for sure. Untill then?
I'm playin other stuff.
Good news is: according to next patch notes, offline selling is gonna be implemented as well as an increase in harvesting skill - WOOHOO my rocksmashin-wood choppin days are over!
PS: OMG i just read my previous post... so many grammar mistakes!!! I was very tired, typing in dark, drunk and my mutant cat bit me...

I'm closing this down due to its negative over tone. Please feel free to create another thread on this.
