*sigh* So, for the past few months I've been having isolated issues with latency through my internet. Either one of the two happens:
- I completely lose connection, however my modem shows I have a internet connection... I can do a speed test, everything shows up fine except I won't get any upload speeds (stays at 0.00).
- I experience extremely high latency (500ms+) with normalish download speeds and less than average upload speeds.
I, unfortunately, have comcast internet. I've called them several times regarding this issue. At first, they changed my modem and that resolved the problem for a few months. Afterwards I started getting this issue at night (usually around midnite lasting til about 3am) every so often. I called them again, another tech came out and changed the connection outside.
That solved the issue again for a few months. Now, I'm having the issue again, except it's not isolated to the night time. It's happen every few hours and I can't game.
This time I changed my router - same issue. Connected my computer directly to the modem - same issue. Completely replaced my modem - same issue. I have a sabertooth p67 motherboard, so I looked up the LAN/network adapter driver updates and downloaded them... same issue.
i'm at my wits end and I don't lknow how to resolve this issue...
I had a comcast tech come out last week and they came and said everything was fine. The connections, the speed, the signal to the server... it was really such a waste of a visit. Of course, a few hours after they left the issue persisted again.
I called again and they literally said all I can do is keep calling until the issue is resolved... such a waste of both of our times...
Anyone have any solutions or suggestions on how to fix this?

dont use that ISP they sound like a bunch of fools lol..
Tho i guess you will reply to this and say they are the only one in your area
It really does sound like an ISP issue really so I cant suggest anything other than call them up and speak to a manager. If that dont work right a letter to their CEO complaining about your issues. If that dont help complain to the press or somthing along those lines
If you're using a wireless network, then when you're running into high latency, try running an ethernet cable directly from your computer to the modem, so that you have a purely wired connection. (If this knocks other computers off the internet because the wireless connection is removed, oh well, they weren't going to be able to do much at the time anyway.) If the wired connection doesn't make a bit of difference, then you know that the problem is somewhere else and not your wifi. And if that fixes it, then you've found the problem.

Also, you say "anyone connected to your wifi network". Do you commonly have a bunch of people connected to your wifi network at once? Or is it usually just one or two?
How chronic is this?
Have you noticed if the problem is seasonal? Tends to happen more in cold weather?
Not by chance in Chicago area, are you? Comcast took over AT&T infrastructure which had problems identical to what you are describing. Mine browned out and was useless for two months. AT&T customer service said it was normal to have a 50%+ packet drop rate *sigh*.
Fix it? Not likely.
Of course there's the standard suggestion of trying another computer wired to the modem, asking neighbors who have comcast if they have the same problems, etc. but my hunch is that both will be dead ends.
What I suspect is either:
A pole mounted repeater (not sure of the name they call them, but that's the job) malfunctions with temperature extremes or possibly water damage. In this case, the problem is between your modem and the local office.
An upstream router, wired connection, or optical connection is malfunctioning causing brown or black outs. In this case, the problem is between your modem and the rest of the Internet and located on Comcast's network.
Honestly, if you can't find a solution, I'd look into switching to DSL assuming you have neighbors who have it and it works reliably.
Ok, so I can have update for you guys.
I can a continous trace from my phone last night to test my internet while it wasn't working. Perfect for 6 hours. I started up my PC - perfect. The moment I start gaming (or during gaming as well) is when I have these issues. I noticed that if I turn off my PC and run a trace within 5 minutes my latency will be normal again.
I ran a network analysis while my internet was working fine: http://netalyzr.icsi.berkeley.edu/restore/id=43ca208a-17189-e1158938-ee73-4112-b796
Ironically enough they said my network buffer was too high and I would experience high latency while doing upload intensive tasks (such as gaming). This is exactly my issues and my internet was working fine.
So I ran the test again while I was having this issue and: http://netalyzr.icsi.berkeley.edu/restore/id=43ca253f-13295-02c8e9de-4b94-46c6-b247
As the first one predicted. I'm assuming the network buffer has to do on my end -- how would I go about fixing that?
