I never played aeither of the AC games, thinking that maybe I should. I am not bothered by older gfx or anything and getting my teeth into an older style MMORPG right now sounds great.
This is just a beta though... maybe best to wait till they have the wrinkles ironed out.
If they used the newer AC2 engine which was LOTRO engine, then I would say they are on the right track. Will be interesting checking out the game.

Like I say, I don't mind older gfx at all, but I don't mind being a bit shinier either... LotR always had great environments, so that's a nice thought.
Off I go to see if I can track down some game play vids of this.
So basically you have to download and install AC1, subscribe to it, then dl AC2 and use your AC1 user/pass to play AC2. Ok, I'm down with that. Thanks!
wow im shocked by this, do i even let myself get my hopes up that this could maybe, possibly, oh god please let it happen, open the doors for Asherons Call 3 ??
Oh man... I almost wanna do it. I might do it. Nah, I won't, at least not yet. I gotta see it in action via videos and such first. I know someone has got to post a video sometime.

No need to install Ac1. Just buy it for 9,99$ and set up your account. You get 30 days of play with your purchase. Worth it I think!
Originally posted by Odysses I have a feeling this is a Warner Bros. move for them to squeeze every dime of revenue out of their tubine purchase. Also as far as I know, when Turbine bought the Asheron's Call franchise from Microsoft, they were able to do whatever they wanted. Which leads me again to think this is WB looking to maximize as many revenue streams as possible.
Maybe...
But you have to understand, too, that there have been thousands of fans of AC2 begging Turbine to bring the game back for years now, since the game went offline. There have been petitions for it. There's been "open letters". Forum discussions. People have mailed Turbine personally about it.
This is a huge event for many, many people who've wanted to return to AC2 but thought they'd never be able to.
An emulator has been in the works for the past several years for it as well.
So, is it a move by WB to cash in on the excitement of some thousands of players wanting to go back to the game they called "home" for a few years? Maybe.
On the other hand... do you really think any of those thousands of people care?
Counting myself among them - and it appears you may be as well, given your knowledge of the game, etc - I can tell you wholeheartedly, that not only do I not care, but I hope it's a huge success for them. They're doing an awesome thing for a lot of the fans.
So excited to hear this !! I was never able to play Asherons call 2 at the time. due to my remote location and lack of internet access. And then it closed down. But this is exciting news. I am going to resub to AC1 just so I can get to try this out.
No freakin way!!! I beta'd this game and it was harsh! Harsh in a good way that is. As some stated in the thread AC2 was pretty much a sandbox.
There were NO cities
There were NO NPCs
There were NO vendors
You only had a forge where players would craft things. When enough players started crafting near the forge and basicly sacrificing materials into the forge new buildings would appear. Forges were spread out all over the world which was seamless as far as I can remember. I also remember portals being near forges so players could teleport to other player ran cities to see how well other players were coming along.
If you think for one minute this was some WoW precursor you're dead wrong. AC2 was a sandbox with graphics on steriods (at least at that time). Players from AC1 never jumped aboard because it was so freakin hard to start up a town. When you entered the world you started with limited equipment and a barren landscape. And a lot of players didn't like starting from absolutely nothing. I enjoyed the hell out of it though.

Two thumbs up for Turbine.

Enjoy and know the truth always comes to light!
From original AC2 to this new release, no you cannot.
From beta to final for this release, I'm not sure.

$10, whoopdiedoo. Rather pay the 10 dollars then not have this opportunity at all.
Maybe...

Yeah, I would love to see some as well.
I have decided against buying the AC1 client just to beta this server, but I am definitely interested in it when it goes live.
Would be cool to see it running
That's actually very true in a number of ways...
A much more flexible, varied and - in my opinion - far more interesting predecessor to WoW.
In fact, the UI setup that many people consider "standard" now was largely originated in AC2.
