My Char Is Aesthetically Perfect, Now What?

FuryVFuryV Member UncommonPosts: 515

I understand that a lot of GW2 endgame is getting your character to look exactly as you want him to, whether it be running dungeons for tokens so that you can get a certain gear skin, or even buying your gear from the TP.

I've been playing since the start and now have my character looking EXACTLY the way I want him to.  I have full exotics gemmed & runed out the way I want.  There's not a single piece of gear I'd like to look any different, so all I'm wondering now is what is left for me to do really?  I could carry on running dungeons or fractals etc, but any rewards I get aren't really going to be much use to me at all.  The only thing I'd really be playing for anymore is to increase my wealth, but I could be the richest guy in the game, and still have no idea what to spend all my wealth on.

I'm trying my hardest not to leave the game, as I've waited years for it to come out.  I know that people don't like a gear treadmill/grind and that's fine, I don't particularly like it either, but it seems now that there isn't really anything worth doing anymore ingame.

I played GW1 happily for years, because there was always things to work for.  For example, you would at times perhaps work towards getting enough money to buy a Req 8/9 Crystalline Sword, which was very expensive.  That type of thing, because the skin was UNIQUE and looked great.

Playing GW2 now, I just can't see anything else worth working towards considering my character looks exactly the way I want him to, and couldn't imagine changing anything (unless of course they release any new weapon/gear skins).

I even reinstalled WoW earlier, because I was missing just ANY form of progression really.  I just feel like I've hit a wall now and GW2 as a game is now over for me, which is a shame.

I also have over 200k Karma saved up, and absolutely nothing to spend it on because I don’t need or want any of the gear skins, so that takes away event farming as something I could be doing, as I won’t be spending the earned Karma on anything at all.

EDIT: Not gonna post a pic of my char.  He's a Human Thief who basically has the Anonymity Hood as the headpiece, the rest of his gear is Flame Legion Armor & he has two Centurion's Claws as his weapons.  I went cliché and dyed it Abyssal.  Now, to ME I think he looks great, and that's the reason I don't really want to change anything.

I'm kind of glad I didn't get into GW2, because I'm a content rat; I want to consume as much and as fast as I can. I'd be terribly bored with this game.

    strange perspective,
why is it better to do something if a counter increases?
it seems so pointless to hunt counters instead of doing what is rewarding by itself.

If you need something to buy, you can buy a full stack of every tradeskill consumable item to add to your collection.

    Grind some more gold.

You can time yourself in each zone to see how long it takes you to revisit every single vista, if you get bored farming gold.  Try to break your own record.

Discover every single craftable item, no matter how useless the majority are.

Then go to the highest mountain, and proclaim "I am king of the world!".  Everyone will worship you.

The best thing to do is stop for a moment, take a deep breath and say. "I paid $60 and played until this point.  I can take a break and play something else but that doesn't mean I have to quit GW2. It means I have the freedom to play when I want, if I want."

Subscription games may need to suck the life out of a person so they don't switch their subscription to a different title, but B2P lets you emjoy the content while you enjoy other games or activities as well.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

Well he could always just come to the forums and add his insights ...heck instead of moving on and  playing the next game he can just " hang out here and be cool " I don't know but $60 for 4 months of play isn't bad in my book and once you beat the game moving on isn't a bad thing ...when the fun is over and the value is used try something new . Maybe the OP will find another game to spend his time at heck I don't waste a second thinking  about something I haven't any intrest in...it's a free world move on , be happy .

Not a whole lot to do OP. I got to that point too and just quit altogether. I got my $60 worth out of the game. There's nothing extra in the game like fishing, mini games, weekly/monthly events that keep you occupied and busy while you wait for new content. The game was good for about a month and a half for me. I suppose I'm just really done with themepark mmorpgs though.

OP that can happen in any game you play.... When playing any MMO, WoW (for example) you get to obtain all maxed gear too someday...what´s left to do? A LOT....

All games usually offer many different ways of entertaiment...you focused on getting the "maxed gear" in GW2? Now try to enjoy other aspects of the game...PvP? WvW? Jumping puzzles? crafting dolls? collecting pets? waching landscapes? helping friends? level alters? doing events withs guildies? Fractals? achievements? the list can go on & on.... Shouldn´t be difficult if you really like the game....

Or simply wait for next event or patch (one BIG one coming in Jan/Feb).

Just don´t simply focus on one aspect of the game... it has a lot more to offer than just getting your character look as u like...

I wasn't sure if you meant Char as in short for Character, or short for Charr, or if you had cooked something so well that it looked amazing.

In any event, I'm hungry and you should play more WoW because I love collecting pets.

  • pacovpacov Member Posts: 311
Take a break like I did and wait for new content. Every month should be something new. If its not interesting skip the month and come back when ever you feel like it. Thats the beauty of buy to play model, come and go when ever you feel like.

Sounds like a lot of suggestions to either grind, or start a new character and do the same things again.
  • IsawaIsawa Member UncommonPosts: 1,051

Take a break, play another game, do something else in life. Can always come back when new content or an expansion is released.

If you still want to play the game, make a new character with a different armor set?

  • TorgrimTorgrim Member CommonPosts: 2,088
Just take a break play other games til the new content comes along early next year.

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

    What I would do :

Go to work or find a job

Go to the gym after work

    Christmas shop

    Visit girlfriend or get one

Change my oil or buy a car

Fix that door in the house that does not close or buy a house

At the end of the day, and if I have a little time, log into GW2 and play for an hour.

  • evilastroevilastro Member Posts: 4,270

What will you do when you have the best gear in WoW again? Might take a little longer, but if you join a decent raid guild you will get it. Will you the quit?

You either enjoy the game or you don't. Having a carrot doesnt make the game any more or less fun.

If you enjoyed GW2 you would do it again on alts, do some PvP, or just do dungeons socially.

I honestly don't understand why gear treadmills suck so many people in? What is it about having something slightly out of reach that causes these people to play games obsessively that they would hate if they had that gear? Its absurd.

it's a themepark good sir, the content will always run dry before more content comes. Just how themeparks are.

If it were a sub mmo, you'd unsub and wait for more content right?

Well, ya just dont have to unsub now :) streamlined!

I will never understand the "guess what you are not paying a sub so ArenaNet is affording you the chance to whatever you want and come back when you are ready!"

Pretty much no MMORPGs these days have subs, yet somehow only GW2 gets this treatment. It can't even be the B2P thing, TSW just went B2P and I am not hearing these praises for Funcom.

OP - I hit the same wall as you, left GW2. I came back for the Halloween event, thought it was stupid, have not logged in since. I think about it every now and then, and then I remember that I have so many other games I can play that actually keep my interest for reasons other than "you aren't paying a sub fee"

I agree, GW2 is IMO a mmo that lacks content even though it seems it has a lot but in reality it really is limited once you reach level 80.

I guess i've been spoiled by playing Vanguard for nearly six years, content wise it trumps GW2 and that's with no expansions.

While everyone is different, I can safely say that if I was paying a sub fee for GW2 right now, I wouldn't be playing Xenoblade Chronicles or nearly as many, if any, League of Legends matches with my friends during my gaming time.  Throughout a nearly 10 year history of subbing to various MMOs (mostly FFXI and WoW), I'm well aware of the fact that I tend to ignore other games while I'm subbing to an MMO, games that I would otherwise love to play.  There's a very real sense of pressure to get the most out of your money, which directly complements the neverending progression available to your characters or account in an MMO.

Conversely, I'm equally familiar with the liberating feeling of allowing my subscription to expire.  The whole other world of gaming seems to suddenly open up to me.

Because if they don't mentally position it as "B2P" they will be forced to acknowledge

    1) it's a free to play game

    2) they paid a box price for a free to play game

Both are very jarring realities for some here.

    FANTASTIC!

PS - The OP is presenting the proverbial "Straw man argument."  It goes something like this, "If aesthetics are the only 'end game' what happens if your character looks the way you want?"  Give it a week, that sword won't look as cool, then you can try to get another one, keep them in your bag and change them up.  Variety is the spice of life.

In the meantime, you can start an alt and explore zones you didn't with your other character.  At the same time, more content will be added by seasonal events or other content.  You can ever leave the game for 5 months (the horror!) and when you come back, you'll have months of content to go through.  That's the beauty... you bought the game, you have it forever, with no sub fee.  Or at least, until there's an expansion, which will solve your "lack of content" argument in one fell swoop.
