Do these guys even play a game before they start telling you how horrible it is? I was just in Gamestop to buy a game for my daughter with some of the money she got for Christmas, and I saw a copy of The Secret World for 20 bucks. I am one of those that bought the lifetime sub, and I do find the game enjoyable. I thought a friend of mine may like to play it now that it is B2P so I go ahead and pick it up for him. When the guy rings me up he flips the case over a few times, and sighs. Then he tells me that the game isn't as good as they made it out to be. I know many people don't like the game, but since I enjoy it I asked him what he didn't like about it. He then stammers around a bit before answering. He said that he didn't like the targetting, and although the zombies were fun they were too powerful to be fighting. My reply was "The targetting is the same as most other MMO's. What was bad about it?" Instead of answering he goes on about how be anything you want was a good idea but it didn't work because he couldn't figure out the skill wheel. Ends up telling me that he only played for about 15 min during a beta weekend. I was like"At least play a game before you start telling people about it." It made me wonder though how often they influence sales up, or down when they honestly have no clue what they are talking about.

There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

I didn't like targeting in TSW either... MAYBE it's fixed now, but in beta is was horribly broken. You would have something targeted, be spamming different skills and it would randomly target something else, or simply lose target all together. I don't remember exactly what all the issues with it were but I can tell you it was nowhere near the quality of WoW, or many other MMO's on release.
Yes, every game has issues on release, but some CORE functions are expected to be up and working.
My TSW experience:
1 - Targeting had issues. Never had issues in any other game that I recall. I play a lot of games so I know it's not user error
2 - Chat channels broke. I've never had issues in other games with chat channels. SOME games i've seen the chat servers go down while playing. I didn't notice any errors or warnings in TSW, they simply were gone and I couldn't figure out how to get them back. Eventually, sometimes they would show back up.
3 - Lots and LOTS of bugged quests. Usually because of having multiple people doing them at the same time or someone didn't finish the quest and ran off, bugging it for everyone else.
4 - Unbalanced skill system. Can't recall any game recently where some weapon/skills you start with are just bad. Most classes are fully able to enjoy leveling/questing early on in most games. In TSW it was very easy to start off with something that got you killed constantly while other classes could steamroll everything without blinking.
5 - PvP was a joke. With one build, I would roll people constantly and rarely died. With another build I couldn't kill a thing and provided nothing useful to the group. Some players found special combos that would pretty much 1-2 shot people. Keep in mind this is early release low level PvP, but the experience was bad. I actually typically enjoy lower level PvP as it usually comes down to timing your skills properly and out-lasting the enemy rather than being FOTM.
I never had an issue with targetting in beta, but that's beside the point. You can actually back up why you didn't like the game. My problem is he was telling a customer that a product is bad when he hadn't even tried a finished version of the product, and only had extremely limited experience with an unfinished version. He sounded to be more regurgitating what he had heard/read, and was trying to pass that off as his experience.
How to sell 101. Tip: Do not dessuade an eager customer from buying a product they want.
If some guy was coming in there to buy Hello Kitty Adventure and asked me if it's any good. I would not tell them that its a bad game.
